Josh Bynes vs. Arthur Brown

66 posts in this topic

Bynes had 9 tackles and 1TFL but I didn't really take note how he ,individually, played today. But Is the general consensus that Arthur Brown should be starting instead of him?

I really want to see what Brown has. Bynes has no where near the potential and upside that Brown has and I personally think the best way to develop him is to throw him into the fire. Besides Bynes only has 1-2 games experience , not enough to give him an edge over Brown imho.

Brown got injured today. Bynes did well, even got a few pressures. But as the season progresses I think brown will get more time, especially against more pass orientated teams. See the pats for example. But against Richardson the game plan was always going to be stop the run

What have we seen from Brown to prompt a change yet? He's got the speed but too often he is running around without really knowing where he is going.

Bynes looked good today although he has his own shortcomings. The real difference is the experience, familiarity in the scheme, and play against the run.

The thing is I doubt Bynes  will ever be more than average or serviceable . Brown has a chance to be good. Any why not put Brown in now to work out the kinks , with the rest of the defense then have Brown working it out while the rest of the defense is in mid-season form playing games for a playoff spot.

Brown gets worked in a lot on third downs, especially. He's done okay, he's raw, but he's still a rookie. He has a great chance to be starter by the end of the year but he's still learning.

Well, in the long run, this is definitely the plan, and what will ultimately happen, barring any unforeseen injuries/other circumstances. As far as this game goes though, it was smart to have Bynes out there, judging as how Bynes is, at this point in time, better at the run than Brown is. The gameplan was to come in and stuff Richardson, and Bynes gave us a better chance of doing so than Brown did.

Who cares about who's better. Good rotation is always good by me

True. Put each player in based on what their strength's are. Each player has different strengths. On the other hand though, and this sorta fits in with what I just said, you always want your best players out there.

It's a rotation right now.  Brown has shown some promise, but still has a bit to learn.  Bynes isn't a superstar, but he's generally solid.  Bynes is better against the run and Brown is better against the pass.  They'll rotate into those situations until Brown has proven that he's ready.  Even now, Bynes is getting more work in coverage, but it looks like they're trying to increase Brown's defensive workload.  It's a process, not an immediate change.

105.7 speculated brown had a pectoral tear and might be out for the season. haven't read anything about this any where else.

I love Brown but right now I'm not sure how effective he would have been against a back as big as Richardson. We struggled to bring him down as it is. I think Brown needs some more conditioning. He's not ready yet but I believe he will be or at least close by season's end.

i think we are just using a rotation. nothing wrong with depth. question is do we resign bynes and let daryl smith go at the end of the season.

Bynes is awful in coverage that's the biggest knock on him. Sooner or later they will put Brown in there because that's what he was drafted for to be a starter. Hopefully that's soon. But Bynes did ok yesterday..vs a weak passing offense.

Bynes has played solidly, he's not making many mistakes either. I saw a couple plays where he really attacked the hole in the run game.
Both he and Brown must improve their coverage. Also I must admit although Bynes is also young I want to see if Brown can have similar production or make more of an impact for us....
But he got injured in the Second Half today. Hope the MRI for he and Canty show no damage.

He did leave the game Second Half with a Pectoral injury ( in news section on here ) but MRI on Monday. I hope it's not season ending.

Bynes is a good player, Suggs even singled him out in training camp as THE GUY

he's playing well...Brown will get on the field eventually...Bynes has done nothing to lose his job though

He may be worse than awful. Bynes shouldn't be on the field for any offensive formation with 3 WRs or anything longer than 2nd and 5.

Its time we get Arthur on the field more.  He is the future, and needs to start leading his flock.  Josh Bynes didn't play good against the Bills.  That offsides penalty can't happen.

Yeah, Bynes might find himself in the Harbaugh doghouse soon with that play.

Is brown still hurt. I don't think he was active today. Bynes coverage looks really bad, his tackling is okay..... When brown returns. I hope he gets more playing time than Bynes for the rest of season.

Hopefully next week we see alot more Arthur Brown.  Also, I was loving Brandon Willaims being able to play again.  I think he is going to be very solid!

I think Bynes was playing so poorly up to that point that he placed himself under pressure to come up with a big play.

It didn't work.

I really wish Brown was health. Not sure he or anyone else could've covered that giant TE any better, but that play by Bynes was ridiculous. I dunno.
