Do You Miss Dragonfly Now?

69 posts in this topic

There was a ton of Jacoby bashing on these boards in pre season. After losing him in Game 1, it became painfully apparent that he was an important piece of this Team. And viewing the brief flash we saw of him in the broncs game, it really looked as though he was stepping up as a competent and dependable WR.

Question: Has your view of JJ changed and do you think that he will return to his pre injury form?

No, hasn't changed. Hes a gifted returner that's not one of the most polished WR's, but he's electric and explosive . I want him on the field for us, he adds another dimension!

I like Jacoby. Him and Flacco looked like they were on the same page before the injury. However, so did Marlon Brown and Flacco.

I miss Pitta over Clark. Hell, I miss Heap over Clark. Boldin is gone, it sucks but we needed cap space. Not sure why we didnt cut Jacoby over Boldin though. I think Deonte will eventually take over slot role from Stokley and I am hoping Clark finds his hands.

My view hasn't changed either. We will certainly miss him as a return specialist but not as a receiver. All 4 of our healthy receivers are better pass catchers than he is as the upside for Torrey, Marlon, Tandon (and Deonte once he is back) is still much higher than Jacoby's. Those 4 guys are still improving every day and while he was heavily involved offensively in comparison to the amount of time before getting hurt against Denver, I like the idea of having Marlon, Tandon, and Deonte getting more reps in games, its the best way for them to improve. Not trying to discount him as a receiver because I want him back healthy as soon as he can get back, just the way I see it.

Some of that probably had to do with age as well. Jones is no spring chicken, but he's still about 3-4 years younger than Boldin. Plus, I have a feeling that Boldin no longer wanted to be with the team after being asked to take a pay cut. Just a hunch, but he made a big deal out of the fact that we weren't "honoring the contract" he agreed to with us, so who really knows what went on behind the scenes?? Maybe we were going to keep him, but he felt so disrespected that he wanted out.

he was the playoff mvp and the most consistant player we have had in wr since mason. he deserved every penny. i dont know if ngata has earned his contract.geno atkins has been better then ngata and asked for less. suggs and ngata may need to go as joes contract in the 3rdyear is disgusting.

I think Jones is a good receiver its just that he had his moments as number 2 wideout in the past that didnt go well when he was a houston texan which force people to question if he could handle being the number 2 wideout here. When he first became a raven i question his ability as a receiver but as time went on I could tell he was the perfect compliment for Boldin , Torrey, and Pitta.

Jones prove before as a raven that he could be counted on in big situations such as when he made that amazing catch against the broncos in the playoffs and even against the 49ers in the super bowl. The guy is a great kick returner but dont sleep on him as a receiver(he's no ted ginn) he may not be elite but in my opinion he sneaky good as a receiver. I have doubted the guy many times even consider that the ravens may need to trade him but i think the ravens need him on offense bad even if Marlon Brown does a good job along with the other receivers; I strongly believe when Jones comes back it makes the offense much better.

Let you know tomorrow ;)

I mean, we've played a half a game without him. We really don't know if we'll miss him yet, obviously.

Why the nickname dragonfly?

You'd have to ask Ed Reed, he gave it to him.  A guess would be his moves and speed.

Jones had several chances in Houston but never could stick as the #2. I'll miss his deep speed on fly patterns but it's his return ability that'll sorely be missed.

Hes a good player, but if Draughn and Doss do halfway decent on returns until Deonte or Asa are back, and Brown continues to work out as receiver, the Ravens might not even miss a step. Jacoby was an exciting player to watch, but not a position that should make or break us. Next man up. We will see tomorrow.

If by some miracle Marlon Brown ends up being the No. 2 WR by the time JJ gets back I'd be really happy. Then he can go back to a more comfortable position as a No. 3 WR.

Jacoby was having his best game as a receiver for us before the injury.  I hope he plays that way when he comes back, though he might not have to be relied upon as much if Marlon continues to emerge.  As far as his return ability, it is obvious we will miss what he did last season.  I don't know if he would have continued on that level since return guys seem to go from dominating to average quicker than any other position, but he certainly had a better chance to make a big impact in that position than anyone else we have.

He gutted us in that Monday Night Football game a couple years back.

It's not really a 2 or 3 thing. If Marlon is out there then Jacoby isn't because they both play on the outside.

Not this year.  Both Marlon and Jacoby have and will continue to see time in the slot.

Jacoby's speed could be deadly on quick slants. He made a few nice catches in the Broncos game on slants before he got KO'd by Trawick.

I don't know who was bashing him, but how could you not miss the guy?  He is not only very likable, he's a dynamic special teams player that looked like he'd added some dimensions to his receiving skills in the offseason and was about to take off this year.  It's unfortunate that the injury happened.

Marlon can play in the slot.  In the preseason game where he had the TD on the slant from Joe, he was in the slot.  I could definitely see a package where Marlon, Jacoby, and Torrey are out there at the same time.

Of course I miss him. He's one of my favorite players. How can you not like the guy?

I think there's always the concern that as long as he's available as a receiver, guys like Brown wouldnt get as much playing time. So if Brown or Doss emerges because Jacoby is injured, we could be making lemonade out of a lemon.

Its a shame that a few of his slants in the Broncos game werent actually thrown accurately, otherwise at least one was going the distance.

And to answer the question, yes. Without Jacoby last year, we dont go as far in the playoffs and we dont win the SB.
