Ravens sign RB Shaun Draughn for returns

79 posts in this topic

There is a guy named Josh Cribbs that returns kicks... and is a free agent.   we need to fix are offense 1st with better wideouts. Most kick-offs are touchbacks anyways.

Cribbs is done.

Uh-oh... Draughn is going to wear number 20, very interesting.

Really? That seems a bit odd.

Edit:  This site lists him as #38.

I don't get it, when not sign Anthony Allen instead (already knows the plays, known quantity, good special teams performer, has faster 40 time than Draughn)?

Being signed as a KR, not a RB.

I don't usually question moves by ozzie/front office, but this whole offseason and beginning of the season really has me wondering on a bunch of stuff. I'm really starting to question some of these moves. Mellette all of a sudden just goes on IR (find it suspicious), yeah he could really be injured, but if he isn't is he that much worse than doss right now? This guy they just signed with a slow 40 for kickoff returns, instead of keeping rainey? They might as well just start calling fair catches on every kickoff, cause we won't get anywhere with that speed. Bringing doss back, there had to be others who were better, I understand the familiararity with Flacco (or lack there off since I haven't seen any with Flacco and doss all preseason). Boldin being traded (yes the whole cap issue, but really? was there REALLY going to be a cap issue if we kept him?) Just scratching my head on a few moves....

I don't know, all these moves just seem to me like they are unorganized and just grabbing people just to grab them...

They can call fair catches on kickoffs? Wow. never knew that! Maybe Clark & Dickson should call a couple fair catches on some of the passes thrown their way.

Who do they cut? Brandon Traywick

Is that Bum still on the team?

I thought they cut him when he walked to the sideline after the Jacoby Jones whacking.

Every topic becomes about Joe Flacco? :34853_shakehead:

Warn his rear!!!!!  Don't let him cross the "topic lines" for cryin out loud.  You let topics merge and the next thing that happens is mass panic, hysteria and confusion. The whole board goes to pot in that scenario!!!!! We "employ" moderators to keep it clean and simple. What's their purpose otherwise????

We can't let similar points find there way into separate threads for crying out loud. It would lead to anarchy!!!!!!!!

How bout this little point though......EVERYTHING that is being discussed and the point is EVERYTHING..... is related to what the Front Office has RECENTLY DONE.  It infiltrates every single topic.

When that sinks in maybe the Obsessive Fear of Spreading Topics won't seem so dire.

Good signing there. Having Rainey would be better but that ship has sailed on us. Nothing to be confused about. I've saying it for last 2 weeks we need to have more than just 2 RB's on the roster. And the Ravens Heard Me!?, Just kidding. Anyway, with Pierce banged up its nice to have Shaun Draughn as a backup. He played for Chiefs last season and got 2 rushing TD's under his belt and is young and healhy. Healthy being the key word because a lot of other backs out there may have good stats but are not so healthy. I think Doss will be the return man, with Draughn as insurance backup. Lets just hope Trawick doesnt hurt anyone in purple jersey this time.

You would've cut Rahim Moore too, right?

Yeah, Trawick is still on the feam, SMH. I would be supprised if they put him in this game, but if they do, he better make something spectacular or otherwise he might be getting cut next.

Oh wow, nvm, lol. Can't believe they said that. I meant taking a knee in the endzone and not running it out.

That's stupid me thinking about the unrealistic-ness of madden and how you can call a fair catch on a kickoff in madden lol.

According to people in Oakland he looks finished, which is a shame as he was a great returner in his day.

These guys constantly bashing Ozzie are getting a bit annoying. How many more times does he have to make a fool out of you for second guessing him before the whining stops?

Exactly.. I'm tired of hearing from the clowns. LaQuan is awesome, Rainey is better then Rice, Brown walks on special teams water....

The only thing I know about Draughn is what I read here, but this move is a tacit admission they screwed up by cutting Rainey.

Not really. Rainey would only have been kept for depth for returns, and because of that they hoped to slip him to the practice squad -- he was not regarded as someone who would ever play other than special teams in the near term. Now with Jacoby out, Deonte still out, Jackson still suspended, and Pierce banged up, the need for depth at return and running back has become a reality, and made the Draughn signing a no brainer. Was this all predictable? Maybe. But are we really so much worse off with Draughn as the guy playing special teams than with Rainey playing special teams? Doubtful. If nobody was injured/suspended, it would have been Jacoby doing returns, backed up by Deonte, backed up by Asa, and only then would Rainey get the role. Which is why they tried to stash him on the practice squad -- he would have been 3rd string RB and fourth string return guy. Of course injuries/recoveries/suspension timing didn't play out like we hoped.  But that doesn't really equate to a screw up.

The Browns are so desperate they like to plug in our castoffs and people low on our depth chart as starters -- Oneil Cousins at RT is a good example. But that doesn't mean they were ever going to take the field for the Ravens unless the people who could actually play cant suit up.

I think people will have a different perspective after the browns game, and after people like Deonte and Jensen get back from their injuries. All we are doing right now is mild turnover at the bottom of our 53 man roster. The top 40 or so are the ones that really matter, and only 11 players are ever going to be on the field at the same time. Nobody should really worry if the inactive player of the week is Melette or Laquan or Doss. This is all overreaction about a loss to a better prepared contender. After Cleveland (hopefully) we will be able to focus on the positives, and not fret about the third string RB we had hoped to bury on our practice squad who we have now replaced with a guy who actually scored touchdowns in a real live NFL game against a real live NFL defense..
