Ravens sign RB Shaun Draughn for returns

79 posts in this topic

his 40 time is almost 4.8 seconds... i'm confused, how is that good for covering ground on special teams... don't we have a TE that can run faster than him?

My best guess ... he's about David Reed's height but 15 lbs. heavier.  Maybe they're tired of seeing their returners get hurt and want someone who can come in and truck people, protect the football, and not cost us any more injuries?  This is a total guess, I really don't know why they signed him, but it's for sure better than risking a guy like Webb back there.

Better than Webb or Pierce getting injured lol. Doss is an underwhelming returner also. I would've rather had a speedy small guy like Phillip Livas.

What happened to him? He was a bomb return man in college.

This is a good sign for special teams! He will return kicks, and Doss will return punts. Do you know what Drauhn's 40 time is?

This. Doss helps WR depth and will be the primary PR and Draughn will handle KRs. His 40 time is not very impressive, 4.62 at his Pro-Day in 2011.

Yes and Pierce. I'm not even sure if Pierce has ever returned kicks before?

Remember that time we gave up Rainey? Hopefully he doesn't play because if last week was any indications, he'll get a few return TD's and a few rushing TD's. All former Ravens stood out last week. lol

We heard that a few years ago as well, when we let Mason, Heap, Gregg and JJ go...it would be wise to wait til after the season before bashing him

Agreed- pretty sure we all thought the end was in sight when Oz gutted the team. He did have it right, and that big trophy proves it, on those cuts.

WR has always been an issue in Baltimore. Whether is was right WR/wrong QB or right QB/wrong WR, this one stumps Ozzie. I got made respect for him as our GM, but there is pretty good evidence that this position stumps him.

Lets talk about going in circles. For the moment the FO appear to be spinning wheels, having no direction, no destination while making little or no progress. I hope it all works out but I am not feeling these moves.

I believe I'll go located and listen to Billy Preston's classic, "Will it go round in circles? It's upbeat and maybe that's the way this will all end.

Let me be the First to say probably a bit late though.

Really, REALLY,  so remind me why we got rid of Rainey.

Anybody with half a brain about football would know you need more than 2 RB in the first place. Let alone, to let a Great RB go ( Rainey ).  Rainey is a gem and there is No Excuse to let him go in the first place.

But i see how this Front Office is panning out with Resigning Doss anyways.  Wake up, im soooo sick of people saying Ozzie can do no wrong, because there is plenty that has been done wrong this yr alone.  I understand that we were hit hard with injuries but some these injuries happened a few months ago, that is plenty of time to find a replacement but i just dont get how some of these players still have jobs and others our thrown out when you see how good they are.

Its Pride and Stubborness.

Oh side note,   Harbs can you please call a time out once and a while.  We dont get roll overs timeouts for the next game. No point of not using them when our Defense clearly needs a rest and it would help stop the no huddle.

If the team isn't going to run the ball, why do they need more than 2 RBs?

Just let Flacco The Great throw 62 times every game!

People act like every single move made has to be some kind of blockbuster. Sometimes, it's just a move to get some guy and replace some other guy. How many teams have an All Pro at number 53?

To me, the FO could have avoided these double moves had they not signed Stokely and Clark. Doss and Begema needed not be cut in the first place. Had they sent Jensen to the practice squad, they could have added him to the roster when he healed if they wanted. Then the team could have kept Rainey and our return vacancy would not have materialized. Strange moves this year!

Not even the record setting, most winning, Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco should be put in the situation of throwing that much...but nice to see you back! See you in a couple months when we lose our next game

Nonsense. That is Anthony Allen.

We should have kept both of them. Now they are going to break rushing records against us. We are doomed, I tell you. Doomed!!!

Did any body ever consider that just maybe Rainey requested to be release because his agent figured he would have a  better shot seeing reps on offense on another team also   gaining a better chance of becoming  a number two running back. The ravens seem  to be a far organization( probably honored his request  if he did ask to be released) and giving that rainey is 25 why wouldn't he want such  a opportunity now rather than  later .

I thought that briefly, but I saw that Rainey was interviewed by WNST recently. He stated that he was actually surprised he didn't make it.

However, I think that he may have been cut for the same reason. He may not have asked to be cut, but our FO might have known he could catch on elsewhere. So, they still cut him to do him a favor, in a way.

I don't usually question moves by ozzie/front office, but this whole offseason and beginning of the season really has me wondering on a bunch of stuff. I'm really starting to question some of these moves. Mellette all of a sudden just goes on IR (find it suspicious), yeah he could really be injured, but if he isn't is he that much worse than doss right now? This guy they just signed with a slow 40 for kickoff returns, instead of keeping rainey? They might as well just start calling fair catches on every kickoff, cause we won't get anywhere with that speed. Bringing doss back, there had to be others who were better, I understand the familiararity with Flacco (or lack there off since I haven't seen any with Flacco and doss all preseason). Boldin being traded (yes the whole cap issue, but really? was there REALLY going to be a cap issue if we kept him?) Just scratching my head on a few moves....

I don't know, all these moves just seem to me like they are unorganized and just grabbing people just to grab them...

There is a guy named Josh Cribbs that returns kicks... and is a free agent.   we need to fix are offense 1st with better wideouts. Most kick-offs are touchbacks anyways.
