2014 Orioles play in Baltimore on the first Thursday of football

The only sheep are the people blindly defending the O's. The Orioles and MLB were FULLY aware of the conflict from this year. How do they respond? By scheduling ANOTHER home game on the first Thursday of September next season. A full year in advance, with full knowledge of the previous controversy. Sorry, that's not the NFL. That's the MLB and their inferiority complex over their dead sport.

I hope the O's fall flat on their faces this year and next.

wow! You people are dense! IT IS NOT THE Os. They have no more control of their schedule than the Ravens do. MLB and NFL may have some sort of twisted feud but it is not about our ONLY other Baltimore sports team. How can you claim to support Baltimore and then dog the Os? I understand not liking Baseball but that is no reason to crap on the Os. Too many sympathy concussions watching football?

What should happen is, the NFL should show their dominance by holding a game at the same time in the same city. Maybe repeatedly. When the Os stadium is nearly empty, maybe that will jar the MLB into making some sort of concession.

This is very simple.

Kick the Orioles to the curb....root for the Yankees.

Perk,

You seem to be pretty savoy when it comes to football, but if you think that a baseball GM can decide when a game is played, you do not know much about baseball. Showalter is not much different than Ozzie. Can Ozzie TELL the NFL when to schedule a game? The NFL wouldn't care what he thought either way. I admit I enjoy baseball as a way to fill in the void when it isn't football season other then that, I have little vested interest. So believe me, this is all about the commisoners, Goodel and whats his name. Goodel hosed us out of our season opener due to financial concerns. He does not care whether we fans are happy about it or not. He knows that he could remove the seats from the stadium, triple food prices have just a single dirty toilet and make rude comments about our mothers, then just ring the cowbell and the herds will flock to the games anyway. He controls the ignorant masses and he knows it.

It is not on Showalter or the Os.

Never claimed i know Baseball.

My post even said that my friends that are fans said it had something to do with Showalter.

I HATE baseball.  I HATE it even more now because of the B.S. that happened with our Home game.

All i know is, MLB plays what 160 games or something like that and the NFL has 16 and only 8 at home.

No excuse or reason can be valid when it comes down to it.  So MLB is saying they cant move one game around. They did have 6 months.

I would understand if it was a time issue or they only played a few games but neither are the case.

Given how superstitious sports teams are, if we repeat they might not want to open at home.  How many teams have repeated after opening at home since they started this Thursday night kickoff?

Right. This could be a new trend!

New England did in 2004.

I think MLB just wanted and wants to shove it to the NFL. It's all about ego. Anyone have any idea what kind of attendance the Orioles had?

It was actually pretty decent

Buckshowboater? First of all, that's ignorant and off base. Second, it wasn't Showalter's decision. You need to get a life and a clue.

lol, where does that even come from

So I guess it doesn't matter. I'm guessing those who went to the baseball game just went and watched football after. It's a shame our lots aren't better and more equipped to handle this kind of double event.

In reality, this is a big deal if we make it to and win the Super Bowl because the city of Baltimore ultimately loses money.

So the answer to my question is one. I did know that, but thanks. My post was mostly for humor and entertainment.

Actually, it was a lighter turnout than normal.

For a regular Thursday night game the O's have been averaging just over 26,000.

For this game it was just under 17,000.

I'm certain that if we manage a repeat, we will either tell the O's go blow or figure something out.I really don't see them igniting a firestorm in Baltimore by making us go on the road again.

Why must there be hate between football fans and baseball fans? It's reminiscent of the third grade!

Exactly. And I'll say again. WHO CARES?

Seems you answered your own question.

"NFL schedule maker Howard Katz said one of the most difficult hindrances in putting together 16-game schedules for 32 teams ever year is there are nine teams that have conflicts with baseball teams. And in every case, baseball has the priority.

“Because they play 81 (home) games,” Katz said.

Only the Oakland Raiders share the same stadium and field as the baseball Oakland A’s. But either because of shared parking lots, lease arrangements or municipal order, eight other NFL must not schedule games at the same time as their city’s baseball team."

I found this clip online while researching this thread. Reading this leads me to believe that the NFL makes a considerable effort to avoid or accommodate MLB games. In my personal opinion I don't believe it is too much to ask for MLB to schedule the nine conflicting teams either on the road or off that night.

Once again they scheduled a home game on the first Thursday of football season.  Really???  Any city that either shares facilities with MLB/NFL or common parking areas should not even schedule a home date just in case.  It's a no brainer.  I'm a mild baseball guy at best and this isn't helping the cause!

You know, I have never been to Baltimore, but can't the city make additional parking space for both teams? I am guessing, but all it would have to do is knock down a few buildings and/or relocate a few business to accommodate both the Ravens and the O's.

This is 2013 not 1913!

Lmao! All it would gave to do is knock down a few buildings and/or relocate a few businesses...

As if it's that simple...

Well, they could do make parking garages. For instance that huge parking lot in front of the stadium could make a very nice garage. Perhaps they can't expand on it for some reason. I know getting out would be a nightmare but it could be done.

Why cares, don't you pay attention to the boards? Our offense sucks, our defense couldn't stop a parked car, and we have arguably the worst coaching staff in the league. Win another Super Bowl? We'd be lucky to win a game.

No guarantee the Ravens will repeat, but there's always a chance.  I can't even rule them out based on their performances so far.  They looked exactly the same against Denver and Cleveland as they did last season.

I saw legit points on both sides of the debate for 2013, but 2014 is soley on baseball.  All they had to do was leave 9/4/2014 open and it would have been a great business decision and outreach to fans.

I'm with the crowd that just can't stand the O's and baseball anymore, b/c of their league and a lot of their fans in acting like Baltimore doesn't deserve to celebrate an NFL Championship.
