2014 Orioles play in Baltimore on the first Thursday of football

72 posts in this topic

Once again they scheduled a home game on the first Thursday of football season.  Really???  Any city that either shares facilities with MLB/NFL or common parking areas should not even schedule a home date just in case.  It's a no brainer.  I'm a mild baseball guy at best and this isn't helping the cause!

I would absolutely love a repeat and I would pretty much do anything for a repeat but lets not get ahead of ourselves. We are only coming up on week 2 and we have alot of things to work on yet.

Regardless it's all about planning.  You keep that date open.  I swear I hope if in the event the O's make the playoffs they need some sorta help that conflicts with our sunday scheduling and the Ravens tell them to eat major sand!   Anywho if baseball had a penalty box and the bats could be used as weapons it would be entertaining.

You make it sound as if it was all on the O's.

Cooperation was needed also from the White Sox and MLB

The only possible conflict would be Sunday, October 13, and then only if the Orioles are hosting the ALCS. In that case, the Orioles would most likely play at 8:00 since the Ravens play at 1:00.

Seems to me the MLB has no conflict. They are making their schedule first to make sure they do not. Maybe the NFL needs to get a schedule together quicker and grab up those dates.

Better yet, lets just have both events together. No other city seems to have this problem. If we can't host a regular season baseball and football game at the same time, how do we ever intend to host a SB?

Don't blame this all on the orioles. Or hope for them to fail because of the conflict. That excuse for an NFL commish could have made it a Wednesday night game like they did to accommodate the DNC.

He isn't talking about this season. They have done it again for next season.

If we do manage a repeat, I hope Bisciotti tells them to blow it out their ear and we open at Home anyway!

Leave the Thursday Night Football to the pathetic and weak. Let the Ravens set the tone of Sunday Night Football down at The Vault!

You people act like the Orioles had any choice. The White Sox were flying in the night before and would have had to turn around and play an early afternoon game.
The MLB wouldn't allow the game to be switched...end of story. Get it through your skulls...THE ORIOLES WERE POWERLESS TO CHANGE THE GAME. The Orioles and Ravens dont make the schedule if you want to hate someone hate the.NFL or MLB..not the O's

I think MLB just wanted and wants to shove it to the NFL. It's all about ego. Anyone have any idea what kind of attendance the Orioles had?

Please read. This isn't about this season. It's about the O's letting them do the same exact thing for next season. That isn't on the NFL in the least and it IS on the O's because they DO have a say in the scheduling. They should have petitioned to leave that date open in Baltimore.

Not sure because i HATE baseball but my friends are and thats what they said. It all came down to the GM being a Big Turd.

NFL & MLB seriously need to work together to prevent future scheduling conflicts.

I think this ship has sailed with the situation here.

POWERLESS? If Angelos had wanted to change the game it is likely they could have. This guy has made his career arguing and making a case convincingly. The Ravens even made a financial overture to compensate The O's for any concessions losses they might have incurred by playing a day game. A double header could have been scheduled on Saturday's game which they switched to a one o'clock start time at the last minute as it turned out anyway.

As for the argument that The White Sox would have to be on board, I find it curious that every one makes that statement but never bothers to ask if The white sox were approached by the ravens/Orioles.

"honey, I can't mow the lawn today. i'm afraid the mower won't start"...(her to me) "well...did you try?"

Winning the Super Bowl, if we are fortunate happens infrequently enough that a native of this city, a business owner in this city, a fellow Ravens fan would WANT the RAVENS TO OPEN AT HOME!!!!

I'm dubious when a word like "powerless" is used about someone like Angelos. He feels in competition with The Ravens it seems. Not in concert with Them.  Do you really think he said "Gee, I did everything I could but....I was simply powerless. On the contrary- this was his petty and envious power play.

This is purely a power play by that fading league. They saw the controversy and went ahead and scheduled ANOTHER home game the first Thursday of September next year.

Buckshowboater? First of all, that's ignorant and off base. Second, it wasn't Showalter's decision. You need to get a life and a clue.

The Orioles did more harm than good by not changing their home game so the Ravens, as World Champions could open up at home. I know many people, not even ravens fans, who look down on the Orioles because of that decision. It simply makes them look bad as an organization, and them scheduling another home game on the opening night of football next year doesn't surprise me at all. They have showed that they don't care. Plus they'll never catch or beat the red sox anyways!

The only sheep are the people blindly defending the O's. The Orioles and MLB were FULLY aware of the conflict from this year. How do they respond? By scheduling ANOTHER home game on the first Thursday of September next season. A full year in advance, with full knowledge of the previous controversy. Sorry, that's not the NFL. That's the MLB and their inferiority complex over their dead sport.

I hope the O's fall flat on their faces this year and next.

Wow... so if the Broncos win the Super Bowl Colorado Rockies have no issue as Thursday the 4th is a day off between two home series. The Rockies get that day off, so it seemed Major League Baseball had no problem giving the Rockies a day off just in case Denver wins the Super Bowl but with the Orioles, oh no let's screw over the Baltimore teams.

Even the Seattle Mariners are On the Road on Sept 4th, so Seattle is even given the opportunity to host the opener in Seattle. Boston is also on the road, so Patriots can play that night. Even the Pirates have off. So the media favored teams have their baseball teams off or on the road next year. Yet the O's play that night in Baltimore.

The only cities with this issue are Baltimore, Cincinnati, and one other team that escapes me because of the shared parking. And guess what? Cincinnati is on the road...in Baltimore!

Just ridiculous. I hate baseball.

I complied the list of schedules for each MLB team on Sept 4th, 2014. We better root for the Browns, Packers, Vikings, Giants/Jets, Chargers, Bucs, Dallas or the Redskins to win the Super Bowl. Each of those teams have baseball teams playing home on Sept 4th, 2014 posing a conflict.

Arizona Diamondbacks - On The Road

Atlanta Braves - OFF

Boston Redsox - On The Road

Chicago Cubs - OFF

Chicago Whitesox - OFF

Cinncinati Reds - On The Road

Cleveland Indians - Home

Colorado Rockies - OFF

Detroit Tigers - On The Road

Houston Astros - OFF

Kansas City Royals - OFF

Miami Marlins - OFF

Milwaukee Brewers - HOME

Minneosta Twins - Home

New York Mets - OFF

Perk,

You seem to be pretty savoy when it comes to football, but if you think that a baseball GM can decide when a game is played, you do not know much about baseball. Showalter is not much different than Ozzie. Can Ozzie TELL the NFL when to schedule a game? The NFL wouldn't care what he thought either way. I admit I enjoy baseball as a way to fill in the void when it isn't football season other then that, I have little vested interest. So believe me, this is all about the commisoners, Goodel and whats his name. Goodel hosed us out of our season opener due to financial concerns. He does not care whether we fans are happy about it or not. He knows that he could remove the seats from the stadium, triple food prices have just a single dirty toilet and make rude comments about our mothers, then just ring the cowbell and the herds will flock to the games anyway. He controls the ignorant masses and he knows it.

It is not on Showalter or the Os.
