...still had great years.
The meltdown following Thursday's game isn't as bad as I though it would be, but we still have plenty of people who are worried about the broader implications. The good news is that it's hardly uncommon, so anyone saying we'll be "lucky" to make the playoffs is wrong. So, I decided to take a look into the past and see when teams in fairly recent history got blown out (17+ points) in Week 1, but still went on to be successful. Turns out, it's longer than you'd think.
2012 Bengals (10-6, lost 44-13 in season opener...y'all might remember this one)
2012 Colts (11-5, lost 41-21)
2011 Steelers (12-4, lost 35-7...might remember this one, too)
2011 Falcons (10-6, lost 30-12)
2005 Broncos (13-3, lost 34-10)
2003 Patriots (14-2, won Super Bowl, lost 31-0)
2003 Ravens (10-6, lost 34-15...see, we've done it too!)
2001 Jets (10-6, lost 45-24)
2001 Steelers (13-3, lost 21-3)
It happens...and it's not just mediocre playoff teams. You have a Super Bowl champion (the 1993 Cowboys did it as well) and several other teams who dominated the rest of the way. We're more than capable of doing the same thing.
