WR Chad Johnson wants to play for us

No thanks on the "spreading out" thing. I like the way our FO does business. I guess you think it's OK to fall into obscurity(like the squealers) for a few years for the benefit of short term gains. The Ravens do it the way it should be done. May not look or feel "spectacular" at times, but they have remained competitive year in and year out and as a fan, I like it that way.

Yeah, spreading out one contract would completely doom the franchise for a few years...

Chad Johnson is a bit older but no one takes better care of themselves.

And he has Great Hands.

To be honest, i wouldnt mind him coming here honestly.

Yeah you're right. Our FO really doesn't know squat about business in the NFL. Biscotti should fire Ozzie and DeCosta and start all over.

Well there were scenarios where we could have resigned Q by spreading out some of his money and still pay for the defensive improvements.

No one knew Doom would have dropped into our laps either due to a fax issue.

Smith & Doom were big upgrades ,no doubt but we could have found a way to keep Q and still

have upgraded our D .

I think we are seeing Pittsburgh start down a multi-year decline thanks to "spreading out" contracts to retain players. If you haven't noticed, they were the only team in the division not able to add any blue chip players, and they really won't have the flexibility to fix things for a number of years thanks to a ton of dead money they have pushed into 2014 and beyond. They seem to have taken the approach to mortgage tomorrow for another chance to win today (while they still have a big name QB, presumably), and unfortunately tomorrow seems to be coming earlier than they had hoped. We really don't want to go down that path and so its actually fantastic that Ozzie has indicated he will let a Bolden walk rather than not have the ability to have anybody good on the team in five years. It was the right move. Its still the right move even in retrospect now that we are lacking in receivers.

Can Ocho play TE?

I'm sure he would play whatever a team wants him to, but he cant block and he's not got the big sturdy TE body type, so not really an upgrade.

If we can find a time machine, I wouldn't mind getting Derrick Mason :)

I miss that 8 yard sideline cut. That play was there all day every day. Joe and Derrick had that timing down. It was pretty ridiculous.

That's an overreaction.

I agree with the Boldin trade. I'm just saying that extending his contract would not have killed the team like you are implying. That's all I'm saying. However, he was not in our long term plans, so we got rid of him.

Either way doesn't matter, Q wouldn't have "spread it out". He voiced his desire for this to be his last year. Why would he spread it out to the next 2 years, so he cant collect that money? That's the same thing as just agreeing to take a few million dollar pay cut.

Wasn't happening.

Sorry if I overreacted. I'm just sick of folks bringing up the loss of Q. Believe me, I luvs me some Anquan Boldin and nearly puked when I heard he was gone, but I trust that it was the best thing to do considering the circumstance.

And you are correct, one instance of restructuring probably wouldn't have had any long lasting effect. But in business you have policies for a reason and I respect that the Ravens did not compromise their policy of not restructuring contracts. I believe that kind of fortitude is what separates the winners from the also rans.
