Deonte Thompson(the slot guy)

21 posts in this topic

We have all been lamenting our current wr/te situation. BUT, we have overlooked the fact that thompson, who can also kick and punt return, will return very soon. He could be back by the browns game.

this guy was envisioned to be a slot guy with SPEED.Something stokely sorely lacks and was the reason for an interception in the broncos game and offensive struggles. I really believe torrey and marlon on the outside with thompson being the main slot guy will be enough until jacoby comes back.

Stokely can rotate in and so can mellete(he should be active every game at least until jacoby returns)

Now, deonte won't be 100 percent from the get go, considering he has been recovering for a month. But his speed and reportedly improved route running should open the middle for us.

However deonte can't share his speed with dallas,so te is still a work in progress. regardless, deonte in the offense next week will make us much better and will closely resemble the offense we had with jacoby in the slot.

I can't wait to check the injury report to see if he recovers. Deonte will be a real difference maker. Let's go ravens!

his hands are not the best.

look we are clutching straws. the FO know our recieving core is an abomination. they pretend guys are showing promise ie doss.

man I hope you are right. The big question is at this point, can he make the tough cath in traffic. I don't think that is his role. Pitta and Deonte combined to work the middle of the field may have been a thing to see.

i am not saying he will snag the ball out of the air i.e boldin. but he will use his speed to open the middle. somewhat like jacoby running drags and streaks in the slot. I think he can be a  old man's randall cobb(though that may be a stretch). Still something like 30-40 meaning ful yards will be great for us. I think he can do that. Don't forget he was in the process of making a play the same time he sprained his foot. He also had a preseason with awesome stats more akin to marlon brown than anything doss did.

Deonte will make things easier at the very least.

i don't know that we watched the same games last year then. I remember Deonte catching everything including everything thrown at him in the regular season although it was not much, he still caught stuff. But a guy who has runs a 4.31 in the slot ... yikes... speed kills.

exactly. he may not make the tough catch consistently but he will get YAC. that is always appreciated. I am saying his return will GREATLY soften the blow of losing jacoby because he can do everything jacoby can but may be less effective doing them. I think we all are expecting him to make an impact if he returns because we have no returners or slot guys(stokely is old and slow).

Im not sure if Deonte Thompson is a good fit as a slot receiver i think he's best as a out side receiver . Remember he got injuried in the slot  during preseason now i know Injuries happen but that could be a warning saying he's not reliable as a slot  receiverguy.

The best - or most apparent - benefit of his return is having a solid backup returner. When Jacoby went down, I felt ill seeing Pierce and Webb back on kicks/punts.

he is slight. I think mellete might play outside instead of deonte to spell marlon or torrey.. Yeah, the guy will be exposed to injuries but every football player is. that is football.  I just can't wait for this guy to get lose in the open field. His speed will free up guys like torrey and marlon. if he is healthy come the browns game, our 3 wr sets should be fun to watch.

the receiving corps has potential. with health, we will be pretty good. Deonte, marlon, torrey, and jacoby should be good later in the season.

I have faith in them since the other 3 have performed well in the regular season(jacoby's 1st quarter was great).

Watching the stokely interception has me foaming at the mouth for thompson to come back. his speed will make plays in the return game and should, by itself, produce offense for us.

You right but since  Jacoby Jones will be out for 4 to 6 weeks i wouldnt want to  put Deonte Thompson in slot especially if  he will be the only kick returner . Slot receivers are prone to injuries alot more than outside receivers

I agree, Deonte will help us tremendously. If not as a slot guy, as a returner. Webb/Pierce just do not need to be back there at all.

Kinda off topic, but has any recent team ever been successful on offense without even a halfway reliable TE?? I am drawing a blank on this one.

why "SeaHawk". Is that kind of misleading? or are you also a seahawks fan? and that is why I created this thread.

Deonte should instantly remedy the returner problem and add speed and athleticism to the slot wr position. filling  the hole jacoby left in st and the offense. I would not be surprised if he practices the first day since there is an obvious urgency to win the next game.

I love the versatility he offers with his speed and ability to play in the slot. I remember the killer preseason he had last year and I'm excited about the possibilities. I'm definitely a Deonte fan. Can't wait for him to return.

I have my reasons... ;)

Hopefully Deonte can pick up right where Jacoby left off. Jacoby was excelling in our offense before some dumb guy who never should have made the team in the first place ran smack into him.

If Deonte is healthy, I'm happy.

But if he's not healthy by thursday, I'd rather we sign Tandon Doss than put Webb/Pierce at PR.

Deonte Thompson is unproven at this level . Sure, he could be a solid player... but he hasn't been able to get on the field and until he does, he's just a guy with potential and nothing more.
