Fresh start in the AFC North; Ravens in 1st Place

48 posts in this topic

OK, so I do feel a little better now that Cincy, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh also lost their games today. The division to me is always more important than the record.

Let's take care of Cleveland next week and start taking care of business in the North.

I think the Bengals beat the Steelers next week, and we'll beat the Browns. I wasn't impressed with any of the AFC North today. It's a two team division I think.

bengals and ravens. Steelers absolutely sucked. Could not run the ball and could not beat a team with an incompetent quarterback. think ravens are going to sweep them this year.

I agree. If the player whose name should never be spoken in Cincinnati again hadn't of single handedly given Chicago the game, who knows what would have happened, but their defense was just letting Chicago score left and right. When all you have to show for a game is a safety, that's sad.

Is the world still ending if we are tied for first place in the division after Week 1?  Should the fans of every single team that lost today just give up on their team's chances and confirm in their minds that their teams' staffs are awful and completely ruined their squad?  The Bengals, Steelers, and Falcons are clearly done.  It's a good thing the Seahawks, Colts, and Patriots were able to scratch and claw their way to keeping their seasons' hopes alive.  It's obvious that the game in San Francisco is an elimination game.

If this week has taught us anything, it's that we need to step back and take a breath.  That's all.  We will be fine.  Go Ravens.

Let's not make predictions based off of week 1. If that's the case then we'll probably be in discussion for the 1st overall pick. Let's chill out a bit.

We'll be tied for first after next week too. :) I said it elsewhere, but I really don't see this division being as strong as it looked like it might have been before the season started. I just see two teams so far.

Pittsburg, we have a problem. no running game or runners for that matter. before shone greene got hurt they couldn't stop the run. pouncey's injury looks serious and big Jen will be looking at the sky a lot with that offensive line.

the ravens lost to the supposed Super Bowl favorite team and we were on the road. we have the talent but we will need time to gel.

Exactly. We all start at 0-0 again. I hope the fans falling off the cliff right now watched that steelers game. they have way more issues than us right now. And for the Ravens players, they are licking their chops now to get back to playing. Hopefully we'll be better at running the football next week. thats what i'll be watching because we know the DB's will bounce back. The running game i am more worried about because it was awful all preseason and its carried over. other than that, we're fine.

Steelers are pretty cooked. Losing their best O-line (which isn't saying much) is going to hurt badly.

The Browns still appear to have many issues.  If you can slow Richardson (which I think we can with our improved line) they aren't a very efficient team.

Bengals looked competent.

But we got a week 1 break.  Even though we allowed 49 points, we still looked much better than the Steelers and Browns in week 1.

Bengals might have won if Maualuga wasn't such a fool.

People, please remember these are "no smack" forums. We won't let trolls come in here and willfully misspell our team name (especially as an profanity), therefore you all need to follow the same rules.

Shouldn't the Bengals technically be first since they lost to an out-of-conference opponent? Ravens, Steelers, and Browns all lost to AFC opponents. Just semantics really because they're all 0-1 but I'm pretty sure out-of-conference losses do not count as highly in tie breakers as in-conference ones.

That said, I agree with the OP's overall sentiments. Its an opportunity next week vs Cleveland that I doubt our team squanders in their home opener, especially to go ahead and get that boost to 1-0 in the division.

The Bengals looked very good. I thought they played a high quality match against Chicago, and I think they're the best team in the division.

The Steelers and the Browns though....yikes.

Pitt looked weak on paper before this game but apparently got killed by the injury bug. Media is reporting that Pouncey and Foote are lost for the season, unclear how banged up LSH and Cortez are. Gonna be a long year for Pitt.

Ravens were the only ones playing a contender this week, and at least looked good for half a game -- Titans spotted Pitt two points and still beat them handily. Browns got beat up at home, and Cinci choked as ugly as we did. I'm less worried than a few days ago.

Can I use a hyphen on Pitts-burgh ?

I watched much of that Pit game and they didn't look good at any point. If they played a better QB that game would have gotten ugly. Of course just like our game it's still early, but that offensive line doesn't look like it can handle any injuries and Pouncey could be a big one.

The Browns are still the Browns until proven otherwise. Still can't overlook them next week, but until they show and prove i'm not sure buying in.

The Bengals look the same to me. A pretty good team, but i'm not sold on Dalton. Of course he's still improving in his 3rd season and the weapons around him will only get better. Hard to have a strong opinion on their performance because it came against a Bears team that I'm nott really sold on. Even though the Steelers looked bad today, that game next week will say alot about Cincy imo.

As for the Ravens, we lost to a Super Bowl contender and the score looked worse then what it was. The Ravens have to play better no doubt, but the road to the playoffs will be traveled through the division. Next week the Ravens can really get a jump on the division with a win because either the Steelers or Bengals will lose. We just have to have a great week of practice and come out and perform at the Bank.

Also the entire landscape looks favorable right now. The Pats poor play against the Bills, the Colts weren't overly impressive, I did see much of the Chiefs, not worried about Geno and the Jets and we'll get to see both the Chargers and Texans tomorrow night. We definitely have to play much better but I like our chances moving forward.
