Trade for TEs?

37 posts in this topic

and before everyone puts a negative on this look at this everyone said baltimore does not do trade and looked what happened we traded David Reed for Delone Carter who didn't even make the roster since we are low at the TE position how about we trade Anthony Levine for Jack Doyle then cut Dallas Clark and Promote Matt Furstenburg to the Active Roster list possible trade you can think of if not with the Colts

Well I read that Todd Heap was in town and looked very, very healthy...

Not sure what that means but it intrigues me.

I still don't think we should've traded David Reed. With Jacoby Jones now hurt, I stand by that.

When Thompson gets healthy he'll take over returns.

Hindsight is always 20/20..

If Jacoby wasn't hurt; Reed would be a waste of space.

It's not hindsight, though. I felt like we should've kept Reed even after we traded him because Thompson was still hurt.

Yeah, we lost two returners.  Which makes it a little tough.

If we're talking about WRs.. I felt pretty comfortable with Smith, Stokely, Jones, Brown and Mellette.

If we're talking about KR.. I thought we would've kept Rainey.

...During the PS of course.

Rainey is gone. Yeah, it sucks but oh well. I was a fan of Bobby and still am but he's gone. Between Reed and Rainey I would've gone with Reed. It's irrelevant because both won't be back.

Yeah, we need a RS because even if Thompson returns what if he gets hurt? I really don't like the idea of having nobody in an emergency situation. I like Devon Wylie as a RS. Washington would've been good but he's with the Patriots. I'd welcome McKnight.

I would lol if we got Heap. I love that guy. He took a beating. Him and Dmase could have two broken arms and would still try to play.

Nah, we got Furstenburg and Pitta is 50/50 where he comes back at the end of the season. We might not be asking this question if Dickson could catch.

Seriously?

I really don't think it's all that farfetched.  Heap is younger than Clark, had (yes I know it's past tense) a strong rapport with Joe, knows the AFCN, and hasn't played for 2 seasons, meaning if he does want to play he should at minimum be as healthy as he can be.  IMO there are worse options out there, and Todd would come for vet minimum without us having to give up a draft pick.  I honestly think it's the best of several bad options.

i got this feeling heap is going to be signed....ozzie seems to have no issues looking to the early mid 00's as solutions lol

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel but since you made an argument for it I'll make one against it to play devil's advocate. Heap has been out of football for two years. He could be healthy or entirely out of football shape.

That's my concern as well, however our other options are trade, Kevin Boss, Randy McMichael, Jeremy Shockey, Travis Beckham, and Cameron Morrah.  Definitely think addressing the TE position is more important than receivers right now.  I think we have at least 3 servicable receivers - I don't know if I can say that about a single one of our tight ends.

I don't think Clark is that bad. He had a bad game but I'm not sure I'm ready to throw in the towel. He might just be rusty. He was recently signed and only had like two preseason games maybe less?

I think we have to roll with what we have unless we promote Furstenburg, trade, or sign a vet. I hate to day this because I know how people may react but the most probable free agent TE in my eyes is Visanthe because of familiarity.

I think the Ravens were hoping Rainey would fall to the PS, but couldn't justify carrying a fifth FB/RB on the active roster just to be a backup to Jacoby Jones. He wasn't going to see the field on the Ravens other than in special teams, and frankly he wasn't as good a special teams player as Allen who we also cut.

Reed got traded because it was quickly clear that he wasn't in our top seven WR during preseason. Yes he brought something to special teams, but not enough.  While hindsight is 20:20, I have no problem with Ozzie deciding which nonstarter/special teamers should be cut. With a 53 man roster you are going to be deep in some areas and shallow in others, particularly if you have people suspended or on PUP. Right now we are deep in defensive line, fullbacks, safeties. And that means we are going to be shallow in RB, return men. In the long run, a grind them down pass rush is going to reap dividends if the offense can do enough to actually make it a game.

I think the fact that the two starting TE dropped as many balls as they caught is a concern. I don't buy the "need to shake the rust off" comments people keep saying about Clark. People don't rust. People who have spent most of their adult lives catching balls in their sleep don't suddenly forget how to catch unless they are done. At least Dickson can block, and has no history of ever being a soft hands guy. Another game like the last one and I think the people suggesting we bring up Furstenburg ought to get their wish. But I think we have to bear in mind we were playing one of the best teams in the NFL in their stadium on a hot night at high altitude. And still were winning for half of the game. Not too shabby a start -- something to build on.

Brown looked great and put up as good numbers as Boldin did in the first game last year (and didn't even start the game). Stokely was up and down. Smith drew a lot of coverage. Our offensive line held firm for the first half.

What we need isn't to trade anyone or panic. We did a lot of things right in the offseason. We need to design more plays for our two blocking tight ends and fewer pass routes for clark. We need to keep Brown integrated into the game. Maybe see what Juice and Mellette can do. We need to tell Huff to lay down a square tackle on someone or get demoted to our #5 corner. Graham needs to cover the weaker side receiver -- I don't know what the coaches were thinking.

But as far as panicking, I don't see why. We had a bad game against a better opponent at their home field advantage. It happens. We will play better at sealevel against everyone else.

Forgot about him - he might work out, but I'd hate to be him if he drops a single pass at M&T Bank.  My gut feeling though is that we are going to roll with the guys we have at TE, and maybe look for a WR/RS to take Jacoby's place until he gets back.

Though I doubt it happens, if we sign Kerry Rhodes and have Huff return to CB and use Graham more on ST and sign Joe McKnight that might be the best thing we could do all around. I think it would fix all the areas of the team.

We had a guy named Phillip Livas that everyone was so high on.. I wonder if he could handle KR duties if called upon.

Ya.. He's not on any NFL roster..

There's a couple sites reporting he ran a 4.23.. but I think his official 40 is 4.43.. Not bad

If we sign Todd Heap to anything other than a retirement deal, I will never take this team seriously again.

You have someone better in mind? At least we know Heap can catch and hold onto a ball. And he would come back for league minimum. Can we say that for anyone else available that is worth anything? Its not like Grondkowski (sp) is available. I do not see a big list of available and halfway decent TEs floating around.
