Article: the roster is a mess, and the coaches are at fault

200 posts in this topic

I've had my concerns about this throughout the preseason. Game 1 was just confirmation.

really? if game 1 was your confirmation, I am really curious to know what the next 15 games will be for you?

I'm not saying that the beating wasn't bad, but remember we did to the Steelers 2 years ago on opening day? Games like this happen and that team also went on to finish 12-4 (to get Tebowed). We should have tempered expectations and realized that Manning vs an all new backfield should've caused some trouble. The "completion" was a huge momentum swing and they capitalized when the opportunities came. Season's not a sprint, but a marathon. Look at it now as instead of losing at home, we have an extra home game now and a tough road game out of the way. The team has also been humbled and maybe brought down to earth after feeling themselves too much.

This isn't end of the world, but the Homerism was running rampant and that is why there is such a huge difference in what was expected and what happened. I'm actually very excited about this season after that game. The rookies get more time which I have wanted ever since I realized this season is about building, we get extra rest being that it was a thursday game, got a reality check, and the coaches themselves who I think this season rests more on than the players get to improve greatly in every aspect. This is the season I am looking for because it means great things for the future. Its just a shame that the homers are now up in arms like its the apocalypse because they expected a 16-0 season.

Isn't that the Mortal Combat emblem lol?

On topic though, Jackson is the #5 corner.  Im assuming they didn't resign Johnson prior to this because they didn't want to guarantee the salary.  Also someone else said it but Huff plays corner as well so there's your 5th CB.  Having the two guys in Thompson and Jackson ineligible, who would be on the active roster on gameday, doesn't help things.

The no 3rd HB is a head scratcher but it's because we have 2 FBs.

Its not a head scratcher at all, Juice is better than Anthony Allen. He is the 3rd Running back, he took his job.

This isn't like last year at all. We looked good last preseason and our biggest personnel issue during the preseason was kicker.

Right now all of the question marks and concerns about TE and OL, among other things, have proven legitimate.

Preseason huh. That changes everything of course.

I was one who was ok with losing Q for the moves we were able to make on the defense side and of course thought we could rely on Pitta.  With Pitta being out its clear that we dont have a guy that Joe can just lob it up to which is where we made a lot of TDs happen, as they continue to show in highlights from last year.  Now Brown could be another Torrey coming out of nowhere, but we still need that possession WR in my opinion.  Too bad we didnt ask Q to take a cut...maybe we did i dont know, but i miss him thats for sure

This article doesnt have enough to base anything off of, its one game and adjustments will be made

Thought this was a pretty good read from Russell Street Report.

http://russellstreetreport.com/ravens-roster-configuration-leaves-team-vulnerable/

They also have another great article detailing how the defense performed. I'm still waiting on the offensive report.

I just don't think this is a playoff roster right now, which is why I'm a bit pessimistic. Thoughts?

And for the crowd in the back, nobody is saying fire Harbaugh or fire Ozzie. But even they make mistakes sometimes.

If we make the playoffs Harbaugh deserves coach of the year.

Thanks for finding and posting this!! Makes me understand that I'm not the only one out there that feels like something is wrong here!! 5 safties? Jah Reid?2 RB's and there going to use 1 as the returner,ND Webb is too darn important to get injured? Almost fells like Ozzie wants a top 5 pick next year?

Knowledge says, consider the source. I have never heard of the Russell Street Report. ...I guess it is northeast based.

It's a fansite.

Russel Street Report is made up of Ravens fans who happen to have journalism experience. The idea was to provide news from a perspective that isn't biased by being part of the Ravens organization or constrained by being part of an established news organization.

This is why you do not bring your 'friends' to work.   Harbaugh might feel good that he wiped out the slate clean w/ players that had issues w/ him, and he might be thrilled to have spags(trash) and castillo(trash) to his coaching roster but its pretty evident neither is helping this team(might even hurt our players w/ bad coaching)  Harbaugh needs to focus on helping the team, and not himself.

Journalism experience? ...Blah, blah, blah. I contend we can get comparable perspectives by reading this forum and more specifically John Eisenberg.

I mean not every team is the bronco's. teams that depend on their run game will get destroyed against us.

Tell me what team in the playoffs doesn't have a great QB and Wr's?Look at the big picture

I have to admit, I was surprised by some of the same things. (4 corners, 2 RBs and 5 safeties) It seemed strange to me then and seems ill-advised to me now.

I remember Harbs talking about the best 53 making the team. I wonder if that was the rationale behind making moves like Doss, Reed, Rainey etc. I think the Ravens intended to keep Rainey on the PS, but he was claimed by Cleveland (always trying to take our leftovers...smh).

I really thought Reed and Rainey would have been useful to have on the roster because both could return kicks and punts (although Reed has fumbling problems) and Reed plays gunner quite well. Rainey would have been a solid #3, but I think having 2 fullbacks on the roster doomed him.

I think the Ravens kept less corners because they realized that Huff could play CB if needed. I still am not sure though why Jensen has been kept on the roster? He seemed like a definite candidate for IR to me.

I think we may see some roster changes in the next few weeks. Not major ones, but Ozzy didn't bring in any craft vets like he usually does. Maybe there is someone still out there that could come in and contribute something to the team?

I hope so, because I am definitely nervous about our depth at several positions.

I think Ozzie may be really thinking about going to be Alabama AD AFTER THIS SEASON.hARBS IS CREATING A MESS.

.......guess it all depends on who is looking at the roster. I'm not an NFL coach, GM or owner, so I think I'll trust those guys. They've done pretty well the past 5 years.

i agree we have some extremely knowledgeable posters here that could have written the same article BUT it is fueling the conversation here and does make some valid points.

I did read it and it had a number of things I disagreed with which I have already stated in various threads. Don't be so mindless and let an article act as fact for you.

You hit it!! If Ray doesn't announce his retirement,Harbs would have lost the team last year!! T.Sizzle was quoted saying he called Ray up and told him he needed to get back fast because Harbs had lost the team, my friend. People need to realize that this is a knew year.Ravens will always be my team, and I will always watch them good or bad,but people on here want to sugar coat things,Ihope there right but the problem started last year like you stated.

It's not the Gospel, and that's not what the point is. The idea is to tackle the kinds of issues we discuss here in a way that 2 line posts can't. Even outstanding posters like Grim and the stats guy (Something Callahan. If you read this I'm really sorry I don't remember your name) don't have time to post essays about any particular topic.
