Huff at corner?

27 posts in this topic

I think we see the real reason Oakland had him at CB. He is a trailing type of tackler and cushion corner. I see him suited better as corner, especially in the AFC North. It doesn't look like he likes to, nor can tackle straight up. I hope I am wrong though. I am rooting for him.

Im fine with Graham, Smith, Webby at Corner .. and despite his preseason, I'm still high on Chykie as a 4th CB. Although Huff can play corner in a pinch, I just don't see the need. He had a rough game, no question, but I think he can bounce back next week and play well for us.

I totally agree, he is a good player just had a bad game. Hell the whole team had a bad game

A safety that can't tackle is a team's worst nightmare.

You're right, Ed Reed was the Ravens' worst nightmare for the last 3 years. He was just terrible.

Reed could tackle and cover - he just slowed down and put less effort into tackling. he just made business decisions.

In his prime, sure. But if you didn't see him missing tackles left and right (including in the Super Bowl, giving up a very crucial touchdown to Crabtree), you weren't paying attention, I'm sorry.

He's saying that Reed wasn't that good of a tackler, and we were fine for the most part.I know Huff looked terrible last night but I'll chalk this one up Denver having good recievers and missed assignments with bad communication.I think hell do better next time.

We are just talking about his tackling. If he can't tackle how is he going to better next time?

Problem is he can tackle, he just had a horrible game last night.  Huff missed 8 tackles last year, Ed Reed missed 15.  I'm guessing a lot of people are on the Earl Thomas is the best safety in the NFL right now bandwagon, but that dude missed over 20 tackles last year.  Going further into the numbers, Huff missed 5 in 2011 compared to Reed's 11, and they both missed 5 in 2010.

Huff is not an exceptional player in any sense of the word, he's the textbook definition of average.  He was not solely responsible for the loss, it was a craptacular chasm of fail in the secondary last night.  I think he's better than he played last night, based on the rest of his career instead of just one game, and that was on a bad team that makes players look worse (for the most part).

Numbers are just numbers my man.  Did you watch the game?  Safety are suppose to be able to (bring the helmet) so to speak in tackling.  I've never seen Huff blow up anybody.  Not to mention you do know that he is coming from the weakest division in football.  And he is suppose to be familiar with the Broncos. Corners get a lot of tackles when they get beat. He can't tackle tight end body types, he is too light in the hindparts.

So you want him to go all Bernard Pollard and get us some nice penalties?  It's time for people to get over those 'blow people up' hits because they're going bye bye.  Fundamental tackling and fundamental football is what is gong to be allowed and you don't have to try to give someone a concussion and injure them to stop them from advancing the ball.  It's about wrapping up and limiting damage.  Hockey is in a similar situation where they're trying to eliminate the nonsense and focus on the fundamentals for the safety of the players.  Welcome to the new world order.

One game does not erase an entire career of work, and as a safety there are multiple times where he has been in position and made the tackle on 'tight end body types'.  Furthermore, being on an incredibly bad team like that is going to cause him to get more action because he can't be protected by talent around him.

You're talking out of your butt of course, but I wasn't worried about your opinion.  I'm speaking to the non-trolls.

He can't even do this. That's the problem.  Carry on though, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Good luck trying to wrap up and fundamentally tackle a huge TE or RB when you are light in the be-hind. A'int going to happen. You gotta go for the knees or knock off their leverage if they get a full head of steam and start rollin'. You are not going to wrap them if they are coming straight at you.

Have you researched his reputation and history at the safety position??

Ed Reed "earned" the right to be our worst nightmare...not Huff!  smh!

Meant to clarify that.Just like his coverage I'm chalking his horrible tackling to a bad night.I think he'll wrap up guys better going forward.

Huff's ability to play CB is why we only carried 4 CBs on the roster so I think it's possible the team does this. But they wouldn't do it unless Webb, Graham, or Smith suffer an injury. Huff's our FS. I can see Elam taking over at SS as early as week 2 though.

webb is a natural ball hawk with great awareness.. what about huff at cb and webb free saftey. i honestly think webb is a player who can play both positions just as well.

You don't take away your best CB and turn him into a FS. That's just not a good idea in today's nfl.

Well, well. The Huff era is over before it started. Good job by Elam. The move stabilized the middle of the field. Kudos to the coaching staff.
