Update: WR Tandon Doss is back

407 posts in this topic

I like the fact that he was honest. His role at WR will probably go away once Jacoby is healthy again, but I think he will stick as our primary PR. He is dynamite in that role and Jacoby has had some ball security issues when returning punts.

Gabe, you were right about this guy. I admit, so kudos to you for that. He's a good player, he just needs to keep his head straight and work at his craft.

Want to know something crazy? He has the 2nd most punt return yards in the league, and it only took him 5 attempts. His return average right now is by far the best. Even if you took away his TD, he'd still have the 2nd best average in the league. Welcome back, Doss!

If our receivers next year are Torrey, Marlon, Deonte, Tandon and Aaron I'll feel good about our receiving core.  I like the things those guys add.

I can't see us not hitting WR in the draft in the early to mid rounds as well.  I'm very comfortable with our WR corps so long as the young guys continue to progress like they have so far.

I wouldn't be thrilled, but I wouldn't try to bring in a brandon stokley or anything like that again.  I too think we go WR or TE in the draft.  This is going to be an offensive draft I think.

Our biggest needs are Tight End and Center. I am fine with our receiving corps when it compares to our OL situation and TE situation.

Doss has been improving just about every game i hope it continues and i guess he showed the packers it was a mistake not signing him.

The moment the Ravens gave Joe that 100million$ contract, they became a passing team. As Joe's salary starts increasing in year 3 and beyond the passing offense needs to become a strength of this team. Marlon, Doss and Jacoby are just fine as #2WR and probably are more suited to be #3WRs, but just fine won't do, if we can do much better. WR is a need, I totally agree.

I don't think the front office felt the same way.Exactly one week after the contract we traded our most reliable WR away for a 5th or 6th round pick.

Tandon Doss has out produced Boldin in the last 2 games.  They weren't going to keep him around for a final year.  It'd be a mistake.

i had been a doss supporter since the day he was drafted, just as much as every other person on this board who was expecting big things from him. and i wasnt so quick to hop off the bandwagon, i still supported him after the colts game and some preseason struggles, but i jumped ship on doss when he caused that pick-6 in the preseason. when i heard rumors that we might be bringing him back, my first thoughts were "this is good news, cuz that cut lit a fire under him" and thats what happened, the kid is playing his butt off right now, not just at PR, but on offense too, this is the doss so many ravens fans had been wanting to see, and if he keeps improving, he could be a legitimate slot threat. he would need to become more consistent though, thats for sure.

The defense was on decline. Age, FA and injuries destroyed it. Ozzie chose to rebuild the defense first. However he seemed very concious about that decision:

“I took a safety net from Joe [Flacco], and I’m well aware of that. I’ve been a safety net for Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar, so I understand what he’ll be missing.”

I'm curious. My knowledge is rusty here. I thought I remembered the following. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong:

Doss was originally under contract by us and he will have three years of NFL experience next off-season so since we terminated his rookie deal that makes him a restricted free agent next off-season, correct? I think that's the case. An example is Danario Alexander who was cut by the Rams in his third year then signed by the Chargers and was an RFA this year.

Is that correct?

I believe you're correct. I checked to see what contract Tandon Doss has and he is with the team only on a 1-year, $555 K deal. If I remember correctly, before Doss was cut, he had a 4-year contract with the Ravens. So, I'm assuming the restricted free agent rule applies to him, now.

Definately need a TE more than a WR. But I'm guessing that Jensen is envisioned as being the center of the future. I just don't see us keeping him on the roster to be a back up guard like they are saying.

And he thought he had Pitta there for Joe. If he didn't go down, no one would be missing Boldin.

I'm not so sure Jensen is seen as a center. I think he's more like Yanda who can possibly play two positions but he's clearly better at one. But hey, who knows. I just don't think it's likely. We probably like his versatility though. I think too much blame is placed on Gino now. It's getting a bit out of hand.

Yeah. I suspect we'll tender him at a second round level or something close. If he has a good year but not a great year I could see us give him an original round tender to lure a team to take him. It'll be interesting to see. That's for sure. Torrey is getting paid and that's extremely clear. I think he gets his deal next off-season. That'll leave some money on the table for Doss and it'll be interesting to see if he re-signs like Reed or if we decide to just tender him if unable to sign him to a two year deal.

This preseason everyone played bad... so when everyone jumped all on Doss was a little to harsh... it took him a while and he has been showing that he deserves to be on this team.  When the line gets better or they fix whatever problem they have theses wrs will have a chance to flourish... the biggest problem I have noticed is that we should have seen the o line problems in the preseason and should have started fixing it then instead of going on the seventh game of the regular season.  When Pitta comes back we should in theory have a great passing attack come playoff time.

Tandon has proved all the doubters wrong and has become a consistent target for Joe. He has really stepped up with all the injuries and is getting better with more opportunity. You can tell he has a swagger now.

Boy is a beast at PR.... How did our coaching staff overlook this?

He admit himself, that he didn't take the sport seriously before he got cut. It was his own fault.

I agree.

Sometimes, players needs a spark. Getting fired gave him a sense of focus and urgency back into his football game. It might be the best thing to happen to him.

But still, he got lonng ways to go. Our passing offense still stinks. Hope someone steps up big soon.. Maybe doss will be that guy

Well, I may be trying to read more into it than is there, but for me it makes more sense as it it seems the need is greater at center.
