Mellette was IR'ed today in case you missed it.

Oh wow I did miss it. I got a text about the RB we signed but didn't hear anything about Mellette. It's not surprising though

Come on now, Doss is not better than Stokley. He might get there one day and thats a big Maybe. But it gives us decent backup just in case Stokley get injured. Doss can also return punts which is a plus considering Jacoby being out for at least 4 weeks. So considering the situation Ravens made a right move by signing him. Maybe he looks at this as his second chance and steps up.

I'm really hoping he can step up. Stokley can't keep up with Flacco's arm, but he does have great hands.  Doss can actually go up and get it like Boldin was able to. Only thing is, he hasn't been consistent. In the few games when he did notch catches, those catches were his only ones in those games.  I credit that to Cam Cameron holding our offense back. I just don't wanna have to laugh too hard when Doss's lovers call for his haters to stand up after one catch. He's gonna have to put on a clinic like Torrey did against the Rams his rookie season for me to eat crow. But I like us getting him mainly for his special teams contributions. I didn't like Webb and Pearce back to return punts/kicks

Im calling it right now, if Doss plays Sunday, he will have a good game.

Call it a gut feeling.

And just so everyone knows if they already didnt. I am NOT a Doss fan in any shape or form.

Over the years I've always been a Doss supporter and this past year, I think I jumped the gun on him too early. With these shiny new receivers (Brown and Mellette), I kind of just turned my back on him after his bad preseason. Thinking about it, he has had some really good catches and I know he has good hands. A guy just doesn't lose his hands so early in his career. I think being cut will wake him up. I think Doss has a good season.

The hands alone aren't the problem.... The hands+contact are the problem...

I know, but he's shown flashes even with the threat of contact. I'm not trying to defend him. I was one of the ones persecuting him. I just feel like he might make the best out of this final opportunity.

Here's to hoping he can get it done today. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I won't respond to any of those who have a man crush on him if he makes an amazing catch and they say "All the Doss haters please stand up!" Only way I'll do that is if he tears it up Torrey vs Rams style. I really do want him to be successful.

So if he has a 4rec 50yds 1TD will you acknowledge it? Or does he have to have a 3TD type game?

No. Clark put up much better numbers than that last week and we all agree he was awful. Brown put up better numbers than that too, and he has three years less experience. Doss needs to run his routes and catch everything that's thrown near him, even in traffic, and consistently over a stretch of several games before people regard him as anything other than a warm body until Deonte or Jacoby is back. He hasn't wowed us in his prior three years, and Ozzie was ready to chalk him up as a bust and move on. A 4 reception 1 TD game isn't going to wow us. When you have a top QB throwing to you you can't come away with numbers that might be regarded as adequate if your QB was Geno Smith, Wheeden, Locker or Gabbert. The expectation is that your numbers will be substantially better because when you turn around (assuming you ran the right route -- which was Doss's problem in preseason) the ball is always right there.

Fair enough. I agree with this, but I will say that a 4rec 1TD game would be a really good start for Doss

He missed his window to just have a "good start" three years ago. Now he really needs to put up numbers that make the Ravens look foolish to have considered cutting him in the first place if he wants the fans to embrace him. We love a good comeback story. But if he's the same guy who looks good in short spurts, mostly in practice, I think he on borrowed time until someone recovers or a suspension ends.

Those guys played a much bigger role than Doss will today.  If he gets 4 catches in his limited snaps, it will be great for us.

I disagree. I'm not sure what you guys expect from Doss. I'd actually expect to see Brown have a Torrey type breakout performance then Doss honestly. But at this point consistency is all Doss has to show imo. Yes he was cut in favor of others guys, but if he is showing consistency and producing then he's gonna be around. Deonte while we expect him to produce, hasn't done anything outside of Kick returns.

Stokely looked old and slow last week, but one game isn't enough say that's what his season will be. Let's see what he does today. When JJ gets back of course he's gonna be involved. So when JJ and DT do return, if Doss is giving you similar if not better numbers then Stokely, would you not keep Doss over Stokely? Especially for long term

Well when the other names being thrown around are Randy Moss, T.O., Chad Johnson, and Laurent Robinson, Doss starts sounding pretty good. At least he knows the playbook already.

10 years ago I those names would sound pretty damn good...

Doss is a pretty good replacement for Jacoby in the return game. Maybe we should work him into the mix as a receiver too? EVERYBODY has been dropping passes for us this season, how much worse can Doss be?

Yeah, we should try to work Doss in.  But it's clear Joe doesn't trust him.

Doss won't be a reliable WR for us, but I'll admit the guy is a STs BEAST. Great game from him today. Dare I say a better option than Rainey?

Yeah keep him on, we could use a good returner without Jacoby. Hell he might be a permanent option so then we don't have freak accidents injuring our #2 receiver.
