Michael Oher appreciation thread

24 posts in this topic

A large portion of our fan base likes to down this guy but we just got a wake up call.OUR LINE NEEDS HIM!He's probably just as important as Yanda.I've  always been an Oher fan so this is no surprise to me.The difference between our oline in the first half and our line in the second half when he sat out was like night and day.I know that the defense giving up all those points in the second half made us one dimensional which put pressure on the line but still...

Yeah Oher has found a home at RT.  My main man Ricky Wagner showed some flashes last night, but he's not ready.  Oher means a lot more to this team than most would expect.

IDK, I think many of us didn't like him playing LT.  But everybody is mostly comfortable with him at RT. He was a first round draft pick to be our eventual LT, so their is a little disappointment in that regard.

But just because his replacement, Ricky Wagner a fifth round draft pick, didn't perform up to Oher's level in his first game.  Isn't anything awe inspiring in the case of Oher.

Also, does anyone know anything about his injury?I'm not really in the mood to watch espn or fl network to find out about our injured guys.

He said he was feeling optimistic after the game.  I'd expect him to miss a few practices and try to give it a go against Cleveland.

We should bump up that Matt Birk appreciation thread too while we're at it. Whenever a starter, especially at OL goes down you'll miss them. Like others have said I think the majority are comfortable with Oher playing RT and he was definitely missed last night.

It sucks he got hurt and I'm hoping for a speedy recovery.

Oher is probably a slightly above average starter at RT. I'm very happy with him and hope his ankle isn't too bad.

For a 5th round rookie tackle, I think Ricky Wagner did really well.

I won't be surprised to see Oher leave in free agency after this season, I think he'll want too much money. In a years time, Ricky should be a solid enough starter.

I said it last night... "I never thought I would say I miss Oher". But we did, in a bad way. The running game disappeared when he went down. Wagner was decent at times, but he had no push in the run game. I kinda surprised they didn't put Yanda at RT and Reid at RG... Not that that would have been significantly better, but I guess it's an option if Oher is sidelined for any amount of time.

That is hilarious! I told my brother, who was watching the game with me,  the exact same thing last night

Reid was inactive. He was wearing street clothes

They are not as good at run blocking  then in prior years, also why didn't we run any streatch plays? Pierce seems to excel on stretch plays.

Woohoo, Michael Oher can kinda stop a team without any pass rushers for about a half of a football game!  He was our worst run blocker last night by far, which is supposedly his strength, and again I say stopping the Denver pass rush sans Von Miller is not an achievement.

Yeah, it was strange to see him get beat.  Historically he's been one of our best run blockers.

My stomached dropped when he went out yesterday. He is a big part of the reason Joe stays upright and has time to throw. Hoping his injury is minor and he's back with us quickly.

Common misconception, but it's simply not true.  Michael Oher has graded out negatively as a run blocker the past two years and was ABYSMAL in that department last year.  In fact he was our worst run blocker and it wasn't even close how bad he was.

Oher may have pass blocked better than Wagner last night, but his run blocking was some of the worst I've seen from him. It's like he was never taught how to reach block. His fundamentals were so beyond terrible yesterday. He played high, his footwork was no bueno, and he got no push. It was sorry play on his part.

That being said, I was quite impressed with his pass blocking. It looked better than Wagner's. In Wagner's defense, however, he is a rookie, and when he came in to the game we abandoned our balanced offense. The defense just pinned their ears back. Even McKinnie struggled in the third quarter. Balance and tempo are important for oline play, and we lost both in the third quarter.

Exactly. Wagner wasn't that bad for being tossed into the fire. Oher is a pretty steady RT but isn't anything special, but he's certainly Servicable and I like him on the right side. Oher commits a lot of mental mistakes throughout the course of games. Also, he looks disinterested in some instances while giving up a sack or a TFL.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Insiders Friday that RT Michael Oher escaped Thursday's game with a routine ankle sprain.

Schefter suspects Oher will play in Week 2, with his chances increased by the fact the Ravens have extra time off following a Thursday opener. Baltimore's offensive line play declined noticeably with Oher out of the game, and replaced by rookie Rick Wagner. The 0-1 Ravens will host the Browns in Week 2.

The 0-1 Ravens.

It's been a while since I've seen that, man.

Seems a little odd that some are happy that the guy we drafted in the first round to be a LT is a little better at RT than the 5th round rookie thrown into the middle of a game.

Oher is just average in my mind.  Nothing against him, I don't think he is above average even at RT.  If the numbers say he is, I will believe it, but I just don't see it with my biased eyes.
