Thoughts on the defense vs. the Broncos

I thought they were ok. What I'm curious about is whose job it is to tell Harbaugh to challenge on the play.

Spagnola? He's the Defensive Consultant

Please start Elam over A very soft Huff .

He reminded me of that bust Foxworth who was worthless at corner ,

So soft. Watching him play actually made me angry. I have about half the athletic ability of Huff but I'll be damned if I'd ever play that soft.

All terrible, but i agree. Dickson and Stokley though has to go. Bring in Mellette and Matt. No chance matt Can be as bad as dickson is.

Amen.Never cared for Dickson since his rookie season.

If the defense could make tackles and get a stop, the offense could have had more TOP and gotten in a rhythm.

It goes both ways my man.

Well, in theory perhaps. In reality, it would have just meant we would have dropped more passes

Yep I'm convinced. Huff sucks.....

Start Elam.

as awful as it is.  huff got beat on every play.   thats not good.  thats ok.  but he got beat AND couldnt tackle now i know why raiders (one of the worst secondary) wanted him out.

and smith and webb and diggs.

that whole secondary was awful.  secondary had to be one of the worst in history....well they did make history tonight.  they led in 7 passsing TDs.   No rush TDs.

No one has passed that much TDs in history since 1960.  so yeah...it takes a amazing awful grp of secondary to achieve that kind of failure.

Smith had one bad play(his TD) on a play action fake from Peyton Manning.

Not much you or most CBs can do there. Other than that he actually did good.

Webb did fine for the most part until the end

Everyone else.... NO.

My expectations for the pass rush was way too high. I was expecting Manning to be throwing from his knees all night. Certainly disappointing.

That secondary, ...

Elam needs the start somewhere on that defense.

Those weapons made Peyton look good. The defense needs to read they plays  better and make the tackles on those receivers. We can't beat Peyton and if we see them in the playoffs we will.

Actually the issue through most of the game is they read the plays too well, they read it and assumed they knew what Peyton was doing so he was able to use that against them.

Well...i didnt know injury makes your hand dropp easy passes. He was there to catch it(legs are fine), his hands are the problem.

Apparently the injury to his hamstring also broke several fingers as well...

Someone who has pro football focus, or anyone who has time can just look at the replays on nfl.com...

How many of those TDs were scored on Graham?

5?

3, Jimmy let up one and Huff let up 3. Although 2 of those were TDs into zone coverage that could have benn blamed on a couple of things.

Graham looked really bad to me though.

Webb was the lone bright spot in our secondary only letting up 1 catch for 8 yards on 6 targets.

Chris Canty, Haloti Ngata, Elvis Dumervil and Lardarius Webb were the positives for me

Suggs too. He was a beast against the run and got a few pressures.

Would have been if the refs called an even game. Doom and Suggs were getting strait up bear hugged half the game and no holds. It was insane.  Rewatch the game and you see Doom flailing his arms with a tackle's arms wrapped around him like 7 times.......yet no flag?

Officiating is usualy TERRIBLE in the NFL

Last night, it was damn near fixed.

Safety position looked weak. Other than that, we were playing in a high altitude place after letting are cardio go on standstill for a long rain delay.

Ill say it again, Jacoby and Oher stay in, this game much closer.

C'mon now, lets not do this.  Especially not so early in the season.  The refs are NOT the reason we lost last night.

Statistical outputs for Corey Graham and Michael Huff:

Graham - 9 targets, 7 receptions, 73 yards, 3 TDs and a QBR of 140.0.

Huff - 5 targets, 5 receptions, 181 yards, 3 TDs and a QBR of 158.3.

Yikes, with a capital Y. I was under the impression that both had arguably their worst performances as professionals. With those numbers, a case could be made for such.

lol wow. Especially at Huff. A lawn chair couldn't have done worse. At least the receiver might have tripped over the chair.

Last night's loss showed me the loosest coverage I've ever seen from our defense.  Yes this is a new re-tooled defense that has only officially played one game but there was a lot of zone coverage that left guys like Wes Welker uncovered and nearly uncontested.  We all say Dumervil line up off sides,  We saw Huff let guys get behind him, The pass rush that was nearly non existent at time.  It seemed most on plays where manning was able to connect with a WR his receiver were able to get up field almost 10 yards on every reception.  This team is still rebuilding.  I won't get off topic and rant about the offense stalling out, but if we're trying to be a vaunted defense like how our reputation precedes us that Harbs needs to make the necessary changes to either his player personnel or his coaching staff.
