Thoughts on the defense vs. the Broncos

85 posts in this topic

What do you get when you have a hall of fame QB, 3 Pro Bowl WRs, a fast reliable TE, 3 great RBs, and a stout O-line?

Super Bowl hangover at its finest. We have  young team that needs time to gel and develop chemistry.. everyone take a deep breath, relax and remember we won a SB last season, and like Ozzie said we are trying to make and develop a younger team for the future, so its going to come with adversity.

0-1...on to the next one.

That's a tough task for a team that hasn't had a large amount of time to gain chemistry. Worried for sure, but not writing them off.

Believe it or not. We coupdve won this game. Players just stunk @ second half, and key players just straight up gave up. No grit. Not ravens football.

We need to wake up and get better. 7 TD / 480yards by peyton (70% of that production came from 2nd half), 1 TD and 2int* with over 8 three and outs are not acceptable.

I'm more concerned with the offence than the defence.  Too many dropped balls and missed opportunities.  The defence played a lot like you might expect them to considering that they were on the field for pretty much the whole third quarter.

Those weapons made Peyton look good. The defense needs to read they plays  better and make the tackles on those receivers. We can't beat Peyton and if we see them in the playoffs we will.

1. Drops. Drops. Drops.

2. No separation AT ALL. Our WRs outside of Torrey and Marlon looked slow and gassed. Even Torrey looks unwilling to go after the ball, but Stokley was pretty awful as well. Credit goes to the 3 CBs. I wish Champ was out there and that they left Torrey 1 on 1 with him.

3. Jacoby is a solid slot WR. We missed him quite a lot after he got injured. Come back soon!

4. The replacement RT got beat by Shaun Phillips EVERY PLAY. Jah Reid would've been better than that clown

5. Blocked punt??? Seriously? The Denver dude squeezed through two gigantic blockers..

6. Joe played very well.. well, as well as he could with slow, butterfingered WRs.

7. We miss Pitta. A whole crap ton.

8. Defensive line played very well. Run defense was stout, but couldn't get to manning very much even when we blitzed >5.

9. I liked our play calling on offense, but defense.. there were gaps EVERYWHERE. Communication was a major issue, as Huff was beat constantly and was out of position.

Sorry for the venting. We'll be fine.

My thoughts about the defense?

I mostly blame the stagnant offense during the third quarter.  I don't really think you can expect to have the defense be on the field for 3/4 of the quarter and not be picked apart by Peyton in the no huddle.

Also - Huff sucked.  And pretty much the rest of the secondary except for Lardarius.

My thoughts on the defense?

They were pathetic and useless tonight.

We have one of the most stack front 7 in nfl. I cant believe hoe ngata got manhandled by 3rd string center(starter center in IR, FA signing was cut, and 3rd stringer center got the job just 3 days ago)

Well our run defense held strong, pass rush got after Manning, the secondary had to deal with a group of receivers that are probably going to make all DBs look trashy this season-RichardSherman an Revis island included so for the most part our D want that bad. Our problem was that our offense couldnt move the chains and Manning wore out our defense all game long. Too many drops on offense and no run blocking or pss blocking.

Someone who has pro football focus, or anyone who has time can just look at the replays on nfl.com...

How many of those TDs were scored on Graham?

5?

Also am I the only one that feels like there is way too much RB rotation? I know we have 2 good runners but I HATE commitee back fields, its better to give your better option the bulk of the carries then rotate the change of pace back in after the D keys in on the run. We all know success or our offense results from running the ball effectively, but when you constantly rotate Rbs they lose momentum and get cold. So hopefully we kind of push the tempo more next week.

Ed Dickson & Brandon Stokley & Dallas Clark.

The Greatest dropped passes trio in history (over +15 dropped passes tonight).

If Clark can shake the rust off he actually has some good chemistry wit Joe, and can separate well for a man of his age. He should have had a TD and like 14 catches tonight. But he has to catch the ball.

To be fair, they played fine the first half.

If the offense had any rhythm going into the second half, and the defense got rest, the game would have been close.

But yep. They sucked tonight lol

Yup i agree. I have a feeling we have few injuries tonight other than jacoby & oher. Somebody in d was playing hurt. They were on field pretty much the whole 2nd half.

Please start Elam over A very soft Huff . He reminded me of that bust Foxworth who was worthless at corner ,

Agree, agree, and agree.. Only issue is Elam isn't known for his coverage skills. Who knows.

If the defense could make tackles and get a stop, the offense could have had more TOP and gotten in a rhythm.

It goes both ways my man.

Dickson's coming off an injury. That's all the excuses I can think for him.

Well...i didnt know injury makes your hand dropp easy passes. He was there to catch it(legs are fine), his hands are the problem.

Maybe.. maybe.. he didn't want his hands to get hurt with Flacco's laser, on target passes.

I forsee dickson getting 'injured' just to stay in the roster this year. lol

Haha. I doubt he will be cut, but I don't doubt that he'll be used much less than previously thought. But, the most important thing tonight was the loss of Oher and Jacoby. After Jones went out, Flacco had to rely on the TEs and Stokley on the inside. After Oher went out, we were finished. Woodyard and Phillips had a field day against that RT. With no protection and no slot WR who can gain separation, the gameplan faltered. They double-teamed Torrey every play and attacked the right side of the line.
