Safety Jarius Byrd wants to be traded - should we get him?

Okay so I've just seen that he has reportedly asked to be traded;

I personally think he might be worth trading away a pick next year or a player for as then we would have him and Elam and our safety position would be completely sorted for the next 8-12 years at least so I was just wondering what other peoples views are on this and if they think he would be worth trading for?

Hmm... He is good.  He is also outside of our salary cap.  Isn't he making over $6 million this year?  We would have to trade a high pick, which we won't do, and we don't have the cap space.  I'm also not sure how much I like a player who doesn't want to play for the team he's on.  I dunno.  Just sounds kind of diva-ish to me.  But I don't know the details of his situation so I guess I shouldn't judge him for that.

Edit: $6.9 million according to the linked article (I should really read the article before responding in the future, shouldn't I?) ... also says he's still not healthy.  Sounds like a bad idea to me, moving on.

not sure what are we going to give up for this trade...draft pick or a player..

We can give them Jah Reid...:p

We just signed Huff and just drafted Elam. The only way Ozzie trades for Byrd is if we move Huff for one of them, and even then the Bills would probably ask too much. In addition, we couldn't and wouldn't pay him the contract he wants. He also has issues with plantar fasciaits making him an injury concern.

He is guaranteed more this year than Huff is making MAX in three years. They might not be on the same level, but they aren't separated by that much. It would suck if the Bengals got him, but we aren't realistically in the running here. I am not sure we even want to be.

I'm not sure but I think we just drafted a Safety in the 1st round and signed another big name Safety in the offseason.

You can do that in Madden if you want...

I'd love to have him for the right price. Unlikely but would anyone give a 1st him?

I wouldn't when you consider the need for LT, TE, and WR amongst other positions,

You cant have a pro bowler at every position... especially when you already have two 1st rounders playing safety.

Much better things we could do with what we'd have to trade to get him and what we'd have to spend to keep him.

I too would. He'd really gel that secondary.

I'm hoping he would be a diva and cause friction, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. I'd much rather him stay where he is or go to the NFC.

You consider that we would be getting a guy who demanded to be traded, over money, when he is already making a nice chunk this year? What happens when Ozzie doesn't want to overpay him?

Not to mention that we already stacked at both safety positions....

He's not going to be traded. He wants a big contract extension. The team holds all the cards. This is just a negotiating ploy. It's not uncommon in the least. Remember osi? And he wanted a fraction of what Byrd will command

I agree.  This is not the NBA where the player completely dictates what happens.  It takes an exceptional circumstance for this to work out in the player's favor (Revis), and even then the team that trades the unhappy player ends up getting a huge return payment.

Byrd is good.  Has been for years.  Just the bills are a dumpster fire.

But agreed.  He'd really help a team like Carolina.

We can't afford him, either this year or in the years to come. As it stands now, Sizzle might get cut next year if he doesn't rework his contract.

Say we trade a high pick for him, what do we pay him with... twinkies? pop-tarts?

Maybe he REALLY likes crab cakes.

i'd say we have solid depth at safety, we have 3 starters in 2 spots... they might not be elite, but huff is above average, I

and elam may just be the next elite safety. I'd say the real need is CB/WR if we are looking to trade for something. if webb or graham goes down that will hurt big time.
