NFL Analyst Ray Lewis Controversy

58 posts in this topic

I don't really agree that he could ever be a good HC. He doesn't get the offensive side of the ball at all, I mean he hired Tony Sporano as OC. Terrible move. Granted, he didnt really have a good QB or offense ever, but he didnt help himself out either. He should just focus on what he does best, but his ego drove him to take on HC which he just isnt suited for.

He probably got confused and thought he was hiring Tony Soprano.

Who calls Ray Lewis "NFL Analyst, Ray Lewis"?

Moniker's that are acceptable when referring to Ray Lewis:

  1. Ray Lewis
  2. Ray
  3. Ray Lewis, GoaT

Also...your font sucks.

Ray Ray

Rigging the biggest game on the planet is a pretty damning allegation.

I think the lights going out was no accident, but not to "rig" the game.  It was done for $, plain and simple and not to decide the outcome of the game.

Well I happen to think someone did turn out the lights just not the NFL . Think of the millions bet on the spread and you get where I'm coming from . I guess there's not any proof but a nice little payoff to an electric employee ala Goodfellas , it could have happened .

I see his point and have to admit the circumstances are odd. I certainly am not saying the outcome was fixed. I am not much of a conspiracy theorist, (there was no second gun in the grassy knoll, no aliens in area 51, I do not believe in the yeti or Nessie) but I do not believe in coincidence either. That being said, there was a lot of money riding on that game for the NFL (and the bookies in Vegas)

Casual fans are not going to be interested in watching a blow out. Many 49ers fans and fans from other teams are not going to interested in it either. Had things kept going like they were the only viewers would be we Ravens fans and a few rabid 49ers fans and fans of the sport of football. That does not make for high ratings for TV or big dollars for the NFL. Certainly the NFL would have a vested interest in the game being more like the Denver game, more exciting, better football.
It just seemed very convenient that SOMETHING happened right then to give the 49ers a chance to regroup, catch their breath and make some sort of plan. You know they took every advantage of the time that was miraculously given them.

So how does a multi-million dollar enterprise screw up so badly that they lose the lights in the middle of the most important game of the year in a relatively new stadium? Just seems odd.

Yeah not the best move hiring Sporano, but he produced with what he had. He is more of a defensive guy and a players coach, I don't think his offensive weakness means he couldn't be a good HC. His GM just never got him the tools on offense, at all. Either way I'm sure you agree that his treatment just isn't right there, like I said. They finally start to grow some offensive weapons get a real RB(unless you think Shonn was as good as his stats) and the defense looks ready to go and he has some GM disrespecting him. Cmon. I don't believe he isn't suited for the HC job just that he's gotten thrown under the bus.

Nah people might have stopped watching when we were blowing them out. Then all of a sudden its a exciting new game and the Niners are primed for a comeback. That game looked like it was manufactured(in a way) but I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Maybe for the 1/2 hour while the lights were out, but they were back when the game restarted.

I'm not looking to bring this back up because there's pages of debate on the subject and there's no way to obtain proof. But I have to say it's more probable than not that it was purposeful rather than accidental.

Am I the only one who's glad Ray isn't on this team anymore? Watching America's game about the self-proclaimed, divine "General" was almost intolerable.

Let's see those NEGS

I guess there is some merit to that, but I would think they wouldnt wait 45 minutes to get the lights back on if it was intentional. I'm pretty sure it wasn't manufactured either. It still seems very odd though that kind of failure could occur.

I don't think he deserved any better. He constantly made his team into a circus. You can blame the FO all you want, which rightfully deserves it, but he is to blame for much of the bungling as well.

I mean you gotta think most of us here are big football fans but all those casual football viewers might not care for the game as much as we do if its a blowout. That being said I don't think they would risk tweaking the game like that. Just too much on the line. But I'm sure they were grinning when it went out and they started showing all those commercials.

He wasn't that bad in this piece.  If you hadn't listened to him for the past 2 or 3 years it would be "tolerable".

And I like to say I'd love to see Ray Ray back on this Team, if he were 25 again.................

Ray Lewis has found himself at the center of another controversy.  In the America's Game documentary, he said, regarding the Super Bowl blackout, “I’m not gonna accuse nobody of nothing — because I don’t know facts.  But you’re a zillion-dollar company, and your lights go out? No. No way.  You cannot tell me somebody wasn’t sitting there and when they say, ‘The Ravens [are] about to blow them out. Man, we better do something.’ … That’s a huge shift in any game, in all seriousness. And as you see how huge it was because it let them right back in the game.”  This is a very bold accusation for a player who just retired to make.  He's in effect accusing the 49ers and/or NFL of fixing the game.  Such a scandal would unprecedented, bigger than Spygate. It would be one thing for a fan to say this, but not only is Ray Lewis a poster boy for the NFL, but he is now also an NFL analyst for ESPN.  In the quote, he admits that he doesn't have any evidence.  What's your take on ESPN's newest analyst?

Did you see the segment? Ray is joking about that stuff.

While the OP blows his intent way out of proportion, I bet if you asked Ray he would say he was laughing, but he wasn't joking.

Analyst for ESPN. ESPN pays his bills. Do you think he shouldn't say what he thinks. ESPN is allowed to criticize everybody and anybody. If he worked for NFL, then I could see where you might suggest that it is controversial. It's like you're saying he wasn't allowed to think or say what he said even on teh sidelines during the game. That's what I saw in the clip when he was passing a football to Morgan Cox. Do you think he should have gotten fined for what the NFL cameras heard him say on the sidelines too if he chose to come back and play another season?

Completely agree. Some of the things he's been saying the past few years are too outlandish. But hey, they worked and we are the champs!! Ray is a motivator, but he also has a "brand" and promotes his name more than the average superstar. He is an entrepreneur and has utilized his position on the Ravens and the NFL to its fullest. More power to him..

Absolutely nothing. He can say what he feels and I think he was half joking when he said that.

He didn't say NFL or 49ers had anything to do with it. Donald Trump probably did it lol or whoever owns the MGM. Sports betting!

Why are people suddenly talking bad about Ray Lewis acting like he was an egomaniac or something? I think what he said in the America's Game video has been severely overblown. I mean, relax. He seemed to be joking.

Want to add anymore negativity for the day? Fact is that people listen to him. He could have sang pattycake pattycake and players would listen to him and his lead. So if you are that fed up that he isn't as articulate as the president of the united states or any fortune 500 CEO, I'm sorry but that is not what he went to the university of miami to become. He is a football legend and leader of football players. Even though he ran into some serious drama that noone wants to let go of and that very few Ravens fans want to admit that he did some form of wrong, he still ended up being one of the most respected players in this game.

So gripe all you want about his "crazy talk" and him gloating about himself as a general but he still led his team and kept everybody on the roster in check for a lot of years

I think he was joking/half serious and he voiced what allot of people think and not just raven fans. I guess if someone could honestly answer why the saints play in that stadium year after year other superbowls have been there never a problem . and this happened before with the steelers i'm game to listen . but betting establishments were taking a bath on our playoff run and it is feasible . for me Ray lewis can say whatever he wants god knows skip bayless talks out of his rear and its allowed at least Ray makes sense .
