NFL Analyst Ray Lewis Controversy

58 posts in this topic

Ray Lewis has found himself at the center of another controversy.  In the America's Game documentary, he said, regarding the Super Bowl blackout, “I’m not gonna accuse nobody of nothing — because I don’t know facts.  But you’re a zillion-dollar company, and your lights go out? No. No way.  You cannot tell me somebody wasn’t sitting there and when they say, ‘The Ravens [are] about to blow them out. Man, we better do something.’ … That’s a huge shift in any game, in all seriousness. And as you see how huge it was because it let them right back in the game.”  This is a very bold accusation for a player who just retired to make.  He's in effect accusing the 49ers and/or NFL of fixing the game.  Such a scandal would unprecedented, bigger than Spygate. It would be one thing for a fan to say this, but not only is Ray Lewis a poster boy for the NFL, but he is now also an NFL analyst for ESPN.  In the quote, he admits that he doesn't have any evidence.  What's your take on ESPN's newest analyst?

It was lighthearted and this is an unnecessary thread. Sorry, just my opinion. If the NFL was gonna make an issue out of it IT WOULDN'T HAVE AIRED!

He just said what each and every one of us thought even for a mere second at the time. Do I think they were trying to sabotage us? No, probably not. But you can't deny the timing was funny.

Also, please edit the thread title or delete the thread altogether. There is no "controversy" with Ray Lewis.

Should he apologize to SF/NFL then, if he was just joking?

Should Gore, Crabtree, and Kaepernick apologize to the Ravens for publicly stating that the best team didn't win the Super Bowl? Man it seems like some fans want these guys to hug and hold hands...this is competition.

Rigging the biggest game on the planet is a pretty damning allegation.

I remember earlier in the season the Squeelers were beating the Niners in a night game, and the lights also "mysteriously" went out. Nobody seens to be talking about the 2nd occurrence.

With the amountbof money being bet on games, nothing would surprise me.

Scandal? Did you even watch it? He was laughing the whole way through.

The talking heads, including Michael Kay and Dom La Grecca, are upset about it and no doubt many fans.

Maybe it was some gambling tycoon, like in the 1919 World Series.

Like I was saying several months ago.  We were on fire and Vegas was losing money.  That's one way to cool down a hot aging team.

"Look!  Who's that guy walking away from the power generator.......I think he's name tag says Vinny"

Had to google both of those guys and this is all I found.

Who exactly did he offend/insult, though? Just seems like a bunch of people who didn't actually see it are up in arms.

Yeah I get you, there are others who have this exact same sentiment. I would say lighten up though. But it is a pretty scandalous joke. Not to mention he said what most Ravens fans believed at some point and if Niners won the game that Superbowl would have an asterisk next to it.

While we're talking about Michael Kay, check out his interview with Rex Ryan.  He basically admitted that he has no say in who his QB will be.

That's a shame. Rex deserved better.

Who calls Ray Lewis "NFL Analyst, Ray Lewis"?

Moniker's that are acceptable when referring to Ray Lewis:

  1. Ray Lewis
  2. Ray
  3. Ray Ray
  4. Ray Lewis, GoaT

Also...your font sucks.

Rex was never meant to be a HC.

Sure, but he still deserved better than his treatment there. He kept that defense in good shape but the Gm was never able to give Sanchez the consistent weapons he needed and Rex stood by him. Lackluster run game and not enough weapons in the pass game. Now he is a dead man walking and is getting overruled by the new GM who is showing him no respect. I think he could have been a better HC in different circumstances and did what he could with what he had. You disagree?

I don't really agree that he could ever be a good HC. He doesn't get the offensive side of the ball at all, I mean he hired Tony Sporano as OC. Terrible move. Granted, he didnt really have a good QB or offense ever, but he didnt help himself out either. He should just focus on what he does best, but his ego drove him to take on HC which he just isnt suited for.
