Young Team

24 posts in this topic

This is a very young team. Lot's of R, 2, and 3 types. This secondary may be picked apart by vetern QB's. We also do not have much at TE and WR.

We have LB's out the ying yang. I hope they can put points on the board.

Good luck, Joe Flacco.

The starting secondary is full of veterans. The TEs on the roster are, too. So are our starting three receivers at the moment, with Torrey being the youngest. We may have issues playing together at first, but I disagree that youth will be the cause of that. Our young guys will be eased into the lineups when they are ready, not before.

I really like the way we got younger but not too young, too quick at just about every position. I love the fact that really none of our draft picks will be thrust in before they are ready.
It might be a little slow early in the year, but we should start to gel by mid season.

As it currently stands, our our offense ranks 8th oldest in average age, while our defense ranks 9th oldest.  On the other hand, our special teams ranks 23rd in age.

Overall, the average age of our team places us as the 11th oldest team in the league.

We are not young.

We got a bunch of old guys, has beens, who are tilting the age curve.

Stokely and Clark are roster mistakes because of poor planning by our GFO.

Or, maybe they were part of some master plan.

I'll give you Stokely, he does skew our average age a decent amount, but that doesn't account for our age on defense.

Believe it or not, at the beginning of the year we were actually 12th oldest.

Yes folks, we're getting older!

Forget averages, they mean nothing.

This is a young team. If you start 10 rookies, and one 15 year vet, you are starting 10 rookies.

Average age means nothing.

Like others have said, we have tons of veteran experience, especially on D.

Webb, Suggs, Ngata, Canty, Spears, Huff, etc........

On Ofense:  Flacco, Rice, McKinnie, Leach, Clark, Oher, Yanda

Sure we are weak in spots, but what team isn't.  I think we have a better blend of youth/veterans this year than last year.  The youth will help us be faster and more explosive than last year.

The core is young, and that's all that matters.  Having some veteran role players/stop gaps is nothing to worry about.  There are guys behind most of the vets that are a big part of our future.

Interesting, over on ESPN they have us at 12th oldest.  Wonder why the large disparity.

Just depends on when they took the count, whether its the entire 53-man roster or just the starters.

The list I posted, the guy says he compiled it after the last cuts (8/31) and is made up of the entire 53-man roster.

EDIT:  ESPN's was as of 8/31 and is supposedly the entire 53-man roster as well.   So who knows.

I just pulled the Ravens roster off of our website (I assume it is up-to-date) and we have an average ages of 26.42.  On the Philly.com table (assuming all else unchanged, which isn't correct, but I'm not going through all the other teams rosters), we would be pushed up to 23rd youngest from 18th.

The average of a team like that would be very, very young and support your argument.  However, we are starting zero rookies and only three 2nd year guys (Upshaw, Gradkowski and Osemele).  Torrey Smith and Josh Bynes are the only 3rd year guys I can think of, so we have a very veteran team.  We also have some talented youth to rotate in and gain experience while helping our team.  Youth will not be a detriment to our team because we will use our youth as an asset to help our veteran starters.

Wwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh. Ozzie is much smarter than me and it makes me insecure so I whine about nonsense on message boards to make me feel better. I miss Brian Billick. He made bonehead decisions that really made sense to me and I loved the lack of consistency we had during his era. *opens mouth, inserts binkie*

Fixed.

The Ravens wised up when they paid The Genius 12 million not to coach the team.

Please do not make up garbage and pretend it is a quote.

Just post your own original thoughts, when you get some.
