Week 1 - Baltimore Ravens at Denver Broncos

I'll be dropping a few hundohs that we cover that spread : )

No doubt we do.

But if I did that, we'd lose. I stick to happiness hedges only when it comes to the Ravens. And I haven't won a cent, mission accomplished.

Yes.  If we lose, we know who to blame.

I believe it DEN -7.5. It's actually gone down a little bit, but everyone with half a brain knows that all the smart money is going down on the Ravens.

The Ravens have some of tthe best advanced scouting in the NFL and Harbs said they've been perparing for the Broncos since the schedule was announced. I think it's kind of hard for them to do the same to the Ravens because they really have nothing to go off. What do you gameplan to stop the Ravens. Don't let Torrey beat you deep then what. You don't really know how Dickson and Clark will be used, Brown is a rookie, you can kind of assume with Stokely but you still don't truly know how he'll be used and Jacoby wasn't really a big part of the passing game outside of that great play. Show if you are Denver's defense what do you focus on stopping? The Ravens also have a couple new wrinkles in the run game because of Juan, so even that'll have a bit of a different look.

I think this will be a really tough game for the Broncos Defense. The speed of Torrey and Jacoby, plus thoughts of the playoff game will force those Dbs to play off and the safeties to stay deep. Caldwell has put a bigger emphasis on the short to intermediate passing game becoming more efficient and they'll definitely have the chances in this game.

On the defensive side, I think the Ravens will have their hands full but the offense will make sure those guys are always plaay with a lead. I see this being a close game but the Ravens pull away in the end. 31-23 Ravens.

Really?  I think this is the toughest game of the regular season game 1.  Down Art, so many new faces.  Sure I have complete confidence in them, but you really can't simulate the real thing.  Chemistry as far as being able to work as a until is going to be key.  Along with us getting 2-3 turnovers.  As far as money goes I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole and if I had to choose I'd take the Broncos.  I see this as possibly the worst game of the season and then a bunch of easy games to get back in the swing of things, could be a blowout.

I dont see it like that at all. These are two fairly evenly matched teams, and a 7.5 point spread is huge. It was 8 or even 8.5 points a little over a week ago so the fact that it is now 7.5 just shows that the money is coming in on the Ravens. The Broncos have a lot of new pieces as well and are missing one of the best 3 defensive players in all of football.

Here's my analysis. Of course the first game is the toughest w/o seeing both teams play.

On offense I think we really need to be patient. They are going to focus on taking away the deep balls early. We need to grind them out and move the chains with the short passing game and really need to get rice going. Need to see some shorter to intermediate routes with Torrey and jacoby. Also want to see the tempo quick to keep them off balance.

On defense we should be able to put alot of pressure on manning early and often from all angles. Hopefully we don't get too aggressive and allow big running lanes for their below average running backs. I expect the secondary to get beat several times when the pressure is slow. I'm not sure the communication is there in the secondary right now and Denver has many good receivers.

My prediction:

Broncos 24
Ravens 27

I said in the other thread that this will have a flow similar to the Superbowl. I'll be more specific here. I think we jump ahead to a 21-3 lead. Manning will inevitably lead a comeback but will fall short in the end as some big defensive plays allow us to pull away again at the end. Ravens 31, Broncos 20

I understand where you're coming from however also remember whether we are at home or away we haven't lost a season opener.

So much has happened since winning the Super Bowl up to this point. Who would have ever though that we fans could be so excited about a defense that doesn't feature Ray Lewis or Ed Reed? But we are. It seems like time has flown since Flacco's masterful performance in the Super Bowl, but so much has happened.

I'm so excited to see #5 work. I've said all offseason that the Super Bowl was just the very beginning for Joe and I said by that. Once again Flacco will outplay one of the media darlings on National TV and he'll do it with a relatively no name WR corp or at least a group of castoffs. At one point some team told JJ, Stokely, Brown(draft) and Mellette(draft) they didn't want them, so there is much to prove. Most people don't think Torrey is a #1 or capable of beating double coveragge so he has a chip on his shoulder as well.

But the biggest chip lays on the shoulder of #5. I dont think there has every been a Super Bowl MVP QB coming off a historic run like Flacco to get so much hate. Joe doesn't really care, but at the same time I think he loves sticking to those foolish people.Joe Flacco is a bonafide Stud and everyone will get to witness again tomorrow night.

I was on my computer and my tv was on nfl netweork. They were doing a bold prediction segment but I wasn't really paying much attention. I thought I heard one guy say our team and then 5 wins...I didn't hear completely but if he was actually predicting we are only winning 5 games this season, that's so disrespectful!!

I wouldn't be surprised. Heath Evans was one of the guys on tonight. Merriman was another, and he strikes me as someone who's not super intelligent.
