Updated: Ray Lewis Declines Invitation to attend Broncos Game

No, not to play. I know better.

There has been some talk about him being there for the opener in Denver, for a pep talk and a side line presence.
I personally think its not such a good idea. ( I stop short of saying its a bad idea.)
This isn't Ray Lewis's Ravens any more. He has handed over the reigns. I say let the new leaders lead.
I think him being there at the opener underminds the change in leadership.

What do you think?

Hopefully he does not come back , ravens and lewis need to move on . This is no longer his team and it undercuts the new leaders ability to establish themselves . Not that I have anything against Lewis but he had his spotlight and now it's on espn

Move on city of Baltimore. If we're not careful, this could go on for several seasons.

In all seriousness, let it go. He can come back and say something if we make it to the playoffs and the entire American sports watching population says the Ravens have no chance...maybe then he can come and show up.

Right now it's all about moving on.

It's fine. I'll be worried if there's a pattern of it.

Besides, the new leadership is already established, regardless of what the media and some fans will say. The players know who their current leaders are. It's established. They don't let the media tell them who's leading and who's not.

Don't like it. Love Ray Lewis, but this is our transition season and the team needs the time & space to move on. If he wants to come in for a playoff run and motivate the team, that is different, but no, sorry Rice, but you need to get over it.

Let the new Ravens take the field and prove what they're made of on their own.

I completely agree and i will say its a bad idea. Honestly, whats the point.

Especially with SUGGS trying to take his place, it will only get in his way.

I think if i had to hear his Speeches every game, i think it would have become diluted.

Behind closed doors i think alot of players were thinking to themselves  " man , not again and put there headphones back on"

I think the Media ate it up more than anyone.

Hate to say it but time to Move on.  Should have joined the team by becoming a Coach if you wanted to continue the speeches.

I can see it now, if we lose a few games it will be because Ray isnt a RAVENS anymore. But if we go on a Win Streak it will be because Ray was there for that pep talk.  < joking with that last statement but serious about the first.

Is anyone worried that Ray Rice invited Ray Lewis to Thursday's game? Does it mean Rice is worried we don't have leader? Or is it just because it is Ray Lewis?

Ray Lewis is one of the great players in Ravens history, just like JO and Reed, but it won't help Ravens players of today, if they grow depended on Lewis to "fire them up".
Ray had a good long run as the leader of the Ravens. How about we show a little faith in the leaders we have on the team right now?

Ray will be there week 2 versus the Browns when he is inducted into the Ring of Honor. So he'll be there for 2 consecutive weeks if this happens.

I love Ray, he's my favorite player, but the team has to move on at some point.

I thought it was Week 3 against Houston?

We have former players come to games in the past. JO probably has been to a few games besides when he isn't being honored with something. I'm sure other former Ravens have been to games as well. I don't see it being no different than a former player coming to the game in the past.

Though, I just don't know if Ray would come unless Miami is on the road because he did make it clear he wants to see his son play football.

I think RR was just giving Ray praise. They were like father and son.  I wouldn't read anything else into it.

Exactly.  This is the post Ray Ray era, and the sooner we move on the better.

Is it? Either way, he'll be around a lot. It's not a bad thing but we have to remember it's a new era.

Ray's actions so far have been pretty much him letting us move on from him. I'm not sure why things would change going forward. He's a good man. If he comes great. I don't think it impacts us negatively at all.

I am pretty sure Ray will be inducted at the Browns game.

I think Ray should hide some where until half time.

I remember Strahan and Jerome bettis doing the same thing after they won the superbowl and retired. I am all for Ray showing up and giving a speech. Heck let the man do a backflip and sing nelly.

I will always be a big fan of Ray and have always enjoyed his motivation. That being said, this is the new Ravens with new leaders. Reminds me of someone finalizing a divorce and then sleeping with their ex. Time to move on.

Since he has already handed over the reins of leadership, I don't anticipate he would want to undermine the new leaders by being there.
