Sizzle's Week 1 Fantasy Football Rankings

13 posts in this topic

You read the thread title so here come the rankings. I am doing this

1. Because I play fanduel

2. It may help to alleviate start/sit jitters for others

Feel free to comment

IMPORTANT:  These are a reflection of who I believe based on a number of factors will score the most week 1. These are not a draft ranking list nor do they project how a player will do the whole season. This is solely based on week 1.

Quarterbacks

1. Tom Brady @ Buffalo

2. Drew Brees vs ATL

3. Tony Romo vs NYG

4. Andrew Luck vs Oakland

5. Colin Kaepernick vs GB

6. Matt Ryan @ NO

7. Peyton Manning vs Baltimore

8. Aaron Rodgers @ SF

9. Ben Roethelisberger vs Tenn

10. RG3 @ Phllly

11. Cam Newton vs Seattle

12. Michael Vick vs Redskins

13. Matthew Stafford vs Vikings

Okay so let's explain these. Brady is the #1 QB this week solely due to his matchup. Buffalo will be starting Jeff Tuel against NE's top 10 ranked run D (bad news for spiller). On top of that Brady always carves up Buffalo's D and with Buffalo doing nothing to improve its run D and losing Stephen Gilmore, Brady is licking his chops.

Romo at home vs the Giants who are without Pierre Paul possibly and definitely Stevie Brown make this secondary even easier to throw on. Dez is gonna have a monster game and so is Romo (altho he probably will still throw the game sealing int).

Luck vs Oakland - does this really need an explanation? Only reason he is rated lower than Romo is due to the fact that Oakland actually has a somewhat decent secondary and I expect the rb's to vulture a few td's that could inflate his scoring ( i project at least 2).

Peyton is ranked below Kap and Matt Ryan due to the matchup. Our D will limit the number of opportunities we have while there lack of pass rush will keep them off the field for long stretches (I hope)

Aaron Rodgers at 8 may seem like blasphemy, but consider this. Greg Jennings leaving is a downgrade. Their LT is done for the season. Nelson is coming off knee surgery (altho reportedly fine, chemistry may be an issue). The 49ers D is still strong and their run style offense will limit the opportunities for Aaron Rodgers. GB's D will not be able to stop the Niners.

I would rank rg3 above Ben but I expect Morris to get the majority of the work in this matchup especially against a pourous eagle's D. In short, Shanahan is not gonna let RG3 be electrifying if it isn't necessary and the Eagles D won't allow it to be necessary.

Stafford is an interesting play. On one hand, he threw for 3 td's in one meeting with the Vikings, but the other did not go so well. The volume will be there, but given improvements to the d lline and secondary MInn prioritized in the draft, I would bet against it and say that the latter may be more likely than the former.

Running back Rankings

1. Jamaal Charles @ Jax

2. Doug Martin @ NYJ

3. LeSean McCoy vs WSH

4. All Day Peterson @ DET

5. Stevan Ridley @ Buffalo

6. Alfred Morris @ Philly

7. Stevan Jackson @ NO

8. Trent Richardson @ Miami

9. Marshawn Lynch @ Carolina

10. Ray Rice @ Denver

11. CJ Spiller vs NE

12. Arian Foster @ SD

13. Reggie Bush vs Minnesota

14.  MJD vs KC

15. David Wilson @ DAL

16. Matt Forte vs Cincy

Okay explanations here.

Charles vs Jax is obvious. Martin vs the Jets is the same.

Shady over AD just due to

1. Volume (they should be equal with Kelly now, so it robs AD of an advantage)

2. Quality of matchup. Detroits D will be much better against the run (especially since Ponder can't throw) than will Washington

Ridley is a bet for multiple touchdowns in this game.

Morris will be relied on heavily to protect RG3 early on

I'd rank Sjax higher, but for some reason the Saints D usually steps it up for the Falcons and with Peyton back at home, I expect him to be contained somewhat compared to what he should go off for theoretically.

Richardson will get his.

Lynch will still go beast mode, but Carolina's linebackers and D-line are much improved improving the run defense tremendously.

Denver may not have a pass rush, but they do have guys that can stop the run.

Spiller's production will be a result of volume, but still against a top 10 run D that will sell out to take him out, he has his work cut out for him

Foster is ranked conservatively due to possibly being limited (especially around the goal line) and San Diego's run D actually being decent

Bush's production will come through volume in the passing game.

MJD will get his vs KC's underrated D.

Forte is ranked so low just due to his matchup. That bears o line is gonna have a long night against Atkins and Co.

Wide Receiver Rankings

Dez Bryant vs NYG

Calvin Johnson vs Minn

Brandon Marshall vs Cincy

AJ Green @ Chicago

Marques Colston vs ATL (he always has big games vs ATL)

Julio Jones @ NO

Demaryius Thomas vs Bal

Danny Amendola @ Buffalo

Pierre Garcon @ Philly

Andre Johnson @ San Diego

Reggie Wayne vs Oakland

Roddy White @ NO

Randall Cobb @ San Fran

Dwayne Bowe @ Jax

Victor Cruz @ DAL

I think Ahmad Bradshaw is a sneaky good play against the Raiders.

Agreed. I would have listed him but several things cause me hesitation

1. He has been working with the second team and may be eased back in wouldn't surprise me if he got 15 or less carries (likely less given its the raiders)

2. The Colts havent run it that much near the goal line in preseason. They have used outs, fb screens and wr screens mainly so I'm concerned there.

I'd love to risk him for my fan duel as it would free up some cap space.

Agreed, I'm starting Luck over Newton Week 1.

I would never do that, even though the match-up is enticing. Always start the studs.

What I told him basically for the same reason. I still think Luck will outscore him week 1, but still

Luck isn't a stud, too?

1. Keep an eye on Lamar Miller @ Cleveland.

2. I'm banking on Drew Brees to go crazy against the Falcons now that he has his full staff back and ready.'

3. Cecil Shorts could start the year with a big game.

1. Cleveland D is underrated

2. I think he goes for 300 and 2 tds,

3. Possible, but doubtful if Gabbert is the starter. If Henne were the starter then maybe.

Luck or Kaepernick this week? I feel GB will be better prepared for the read option.

I think Luck with Wayne and T.Y. And the new TE will have a great game.

What do u guys think?
