Ravens claim LB Robert James from Falcons

57 posts in this topic

Robert James..... I wouldnt call him a ST animal like some of you guys are saying...lol... Rob James is a good ST player... He is a fast LB... The problem is we had to UDFA that came thru and completely showed out so we released him.

The guy is a good ST player tho.... Played Safety in college so he is a fast LB but dont think you are getting a starter.... A good ST guy that could possibly feel in at LB a game or so spot duty with your big D-line.

We're not expecting a starter.  We're expecting a ST player, which as you say, is exactly what we're getting.

Seriously, this move has a lot of sense and needed; I love LaQuan but he is injured prone and expendable.  Additionally, we don't want Holiday jogging 100yrd TD next week.  Newly acquired Robert James will help a lot to put a chain onto Holiday's legs...

Yea... He is a good ST player .. I actually hoped he would work out for us with his spot (possibly more PT ) ... The problem is we had 2 UDFA LB's that showed the ability to play ST and possibly be good LB's on our D.

Rob James is a good ST player if thats what you guys was looking for tho

I'm guessing you're talking about Worrilow, right?

Where have you been. The heck he doesnt.

And if they really did change, its about time. And oh to all the people that finally switched, I Told Ya So.

I'm with PeRK on this one. Jimmy does get plenty of love around here. But the guys who have toasted him are star WR's...that Webb would never get toasted by. And he hasn't had much starting time with Graham playing well. And we haven't shown half of our defensive schemes in pre-season.  But my man crush on Laquan would be justified since I'm a Terp. But I don't mind this move.

All I hear is the guy sucks quite a bit. I frequently hear he's a bust.

If we got rid of LQ to get this guy, it was pretty dumb imo.

Lq was our fastest gunner left after we got rid of D.Reed.

Lq has made  incredible tackles on Sp. Teams.

Plus we are kinda stacked on LBers.

Thought Chykie Brown was a pretty fast gunner last year on punt coverages.  Chykie can still do that and be the 4th CB, not much lost or gained.

Taking Ayenbadejo's spot, I like LaQuan a lot as a person/player but I think James makes our team better. He'll be more of a factor in making ST tackles since he's a LB.

Wow, really, just because im very adamant about certain plays doesnt mean i have man crushes on players.
. And why is he all of the sudden injury prone. He got hurt in the Rams game.

I think its a bit ridiculous that Jimmy Smith gets all of this love when he certainly hasnt done anything to justify it.

LaQuan has had a bunch of hamstring related problems.... Jimmy Smith has nothing to do with this. I do, however remember Jimmy making some crucial plays in the Super Bowl we happen to win 7months. ago..
Also, to compare those two players? That seems pretty silly. Jimmy isn't a star, but he certainly has more talent then LaQuan Williams.

Everyone thought that Corey Graham was just a ST addition and certain people were up in arms when we picked him up... I think that was a pretty good move for a "special teams " guy

If Laquan wasn't a local guy, I don't think he'd be as loved around here. I'm hearing people talk about how he's a special teams stand out and he's really not. He's a good teamer but nowhere near irreplaceable. The guy wasn't even active for a lot of games last year. He was IRed on december 26 so he played no playoff games.

The guy is hurt right now and I wouldn't be surprised to see him clear waivers and return to the team on IR. He's definitely a special teams contributor but he's not a Ace. He's a really hard worker and I hope he gets healthy and returns, but lets not act as if this is a huge loss.

This.  I think LaQuan has done a fantastic job at beating the odds and carving out a nice little career for a UDFA.  However, he's simply not this great player that a lot have been making him out to be.  He's one of those average, run of the mill guys.  The potential around him finally broke out enough to push those LaQuan type of guys off the roster.

And I wholeheartedly agree on the whole local thing.  I've made this comparison for Furstenburg as well, but I bet if LaQuan Williams was actually Joe Smith out of Utah State, fans would be quite okay with the loss.  He's a great local story that had his moments, but in the end, the inconsistency outweighed those moments and we found guys at both WR and ST that we feel are better options.

These are the types of under-the-radar move that we have been making a lot of the past few years.  I know we gave up those returns in Denver last year, but our special teams play was actually very solid last year.  I am more at ease when that's the case, and so I am happy with moves like this.

Yeah I don't get it, but I trust Ozzie.  I just don't understand why we picked up a LB.  We're incredibly deep there.

Why did we trade for that running back then cut him? I will accept that there is a master plan.

Totally different situation that's been beaten to death a thousand times

Just using it as another example of the deep and unfathomable mind of Ozzie. He does some things that makes one scratch the old noodle, but we cannot argue with success.

I don't think that was a head scratcher, and after figuring out who exactly Robert James is, I don't view this as a head scratcher either.

Since we lost Brendan Ayanbadejo, I think we needed a special teams ace and we got him off waivers.

Also, keep in mind Corey Graham is too valuable as CB to play a ton of special team snaps for the team as well.

Please no.  He was decent, but young.  He looked like he had a bright future then flopped his final year here.  I don't want him back.

Yes,his final year he looked bad.

Um no. I got awfully tired of watching Carr trail his receiver by five yards every single play.

Yes,he was getting beat a lot it seemed.

Yea... And Bartu.... I think Bartu will see some snaps as a Nickle LB

This is dead on. Our special teams was fantastic despite the Denver game. It's a major advantage that harbaugh has emphasized which should not be overlooked. This has actually been the steelers biggest weakness under tomlin. Their teams has lost them multiple games.

I really like Paul Worrilow. Kinda bummed we didn't take him in the seventh.

These are the kind of moves where I really have to trust Ozzie. I thought LaQuan was a beast on special teams, but if he knows that this guy is even better, then I say, "wow the man is making our team even better than it was a day ago!" I admit I don't know a thing about Robert James, but I welcome him to our team.
