The Practice Squad Thread

46 posts in this topic

As the title says, post any and all practice squad related information here.  Discuss any signings, agreements, speculation, or hopes here.  At 6 pm, all of these players will officially clear waivers and agreements will begin to be made.

Here's the first bit of information:

Several players cut yesterday who are likely headed to Ravens' practice squad were instructed to remain in town to sign if clearing waivers

I have to assume this likely includes Omar Brown, Matt Furstenburg, Cody Larsen, Antoine McClain, Bobby Rainey, and/or JJ Unga.

I would definitely agree with Rainey, Brown and Furstenburg. So long as someone else does not grab them up.

In a perfect world, I hope we retain Omar Brown, Bobby Rainey, Matt Furstenburg, Nigel Carr, Will Pericak, Antoine McClain, JJ Unga and Cody Larsen. I think they might put a QB on the practice squad though.

I think they will as well.  They seemed to love the idea of having someone to emulate opposing QB's last year.  With no one really worth keeping around for the full year, I wouldn't be surprised to see a rotation based on what type of QB we're playing that week.

Dixon got cut by Philly if we wanted familiarity.

True.  Somehow, that guy is still eligible.

I think Brandon Copeland played well enough to be a development player. Marc Anthony showed some good signs of a guy who could develop. I actually had JJ Ungaa making the 53 and still might his Jensen is IRed so I definitely think he sticks.

I think the Ravens will definitely add a QB who could develop into a backup because Tyrod had a pretty preseason and might opt to leave next year. So you might wanna start grooming a guy now.

I think we knew from day one that some really talented young guys wouldn't make this team and because of that the PS should be strong

And here's our PS, still missing 1:

Omar!!!
I'm stoked we got Copeland, Devey, Brown, Unga and Furstenburg. Pretty happy with this

I can't believe it. I've been hearing from so many people that players like Brown and Furst had no chance at clearing waivers...

Good. This is exactly what we wanted to happen.

Very surprised Marc Anthony isn't on there.  I thought he showed a least a little bit of promise.

Kind of surprise that neither Marc Anthony or Moe Lee was put on the practice squad, to be honest, especially since Baltimore doesn't have too many cornerbacks on the 53-man roster. But, I like the group of 7 the Ravens retained, nonetheless.

I wonder if Dennis Dixon can be brought back, now that the Eagles have released him. He's still eligible for the practice squad, right?

Remember Josh Bynes wasn't immediately signed to the PS a couple years ago. The PS doesn't seem to get set until like 2 days. There could be a guy out there the Ravens hope to land, thus keeping that final spot open. But I do agree with you, Both Moe Lee and Marc Anthony showed some good signs.

Also I don't know why or have any phantom sources, but I think Omar will be signed to the active roster pretty quickly.

Ravens were foolish for cutting Rainey! Now we have to deal with him twice a year!! Should of IR'ed Jensen!!

....i really hope your kidding. "deal with him twice a year"? The Browns have Trent Richardson, who we should worry about more. lol

Yes we're so foolish for cutting a guy we have no need for, and is over hyped as hell.

I liked Rainey a lot but I get it. While there's an argument for keeping him because he's similar to Rice there's also one to letting him go because of lack of versatility. Rainey is also up there in age. The truth is he's not a guy who should develop but one who should play.

I'm not sure why but each time one of the WRs who have been here get cut, I get more excited. I've been a fan of Reed, Doss and Quan but seeing the coaches not hold onto what appears to be dead weight is exciting, at least to me.

Pretty excited as well.  It seems like they're actually going to play these guys.  I don't think LaQuan was ever in front of Brown and Mellette, but it can only help not having him behind them.

I'm kind of wondering now if a receiver like Chris Harper is on the radar for that final PS spot.

I'd rather see a QB, RB, or CB... somewhere with little depth.  As much as I like Harper, I doubt he comes here unless he gets a spot on the 53.
