N 'if' L: What if Joe Flacco's Hail Mary in Denver fell flat?

73 posts in this topic

In typical nfl.com fashion, they are parading the Mile High Miracle as a lucky-strike instead of a play for the ages (which it is)

http://www.nfl.com/videos/n-if-l/0ap2000000236521/N-if-L-What-if-Flacco-s-Hail-Mary-fell-flat

Here's a few N-if-L segments they might like to do next:

What if the lights hadn't gone out in New Orleans

What if Lee Evans had held that pass for 0.04 seconds longer

What if Cundiff hadn't hooked it

... (seriously, on those last two, I reckon Ravens would've destroyed the Giants in SB46)

What if nfl.com wasn't a site full of hobbit-sized corporate hanger-on nerds masquerading as football analysts

What if there were actually more than three or four QB's in the whole league who could've thrown that pass to Jacoby in the first place

What if I were able to stop looking at nfl.com in the first place (it's like looking at a car-crash, I can't not look)

Superbowl or not, the Ravens would still have signed Joe to a big contract (maybe not as big as the one he now has, but that's about it).

What if the Ravens' special teams hadn't spotted Peyton Manning 14 points when they hadn't surrendered a return TD in the 17 games before the Divisional round that season?

Its media par-for-the-course, omit the details that don't support your skewed point of view. We're all used to it now RavenzOz and we eat it up the same way the team itself secretly does. At this point if youre ever down in the dumps, you can always find some skewed Ravens media hating for quite the good laugh when youre in need of one. Thursday night can't arrive soon enough.

Amen to that, how many other QB's have played (and won a game) in all of the last five playoff series

This isn't a shot at the Ravens.  Dameshek does "N if L" for all of the crazy events that have happened in the NFL throughout history.  They did what if "The Catch" was dropped, what if the Tuck Rule hadn't happened, what if the Packers had stuck with Favre, etc....

This is part of Dave Damesheks "N if L" series.  It's not just us.  It was only a matter of time before he would do the Rocky Mountain Rainbow.  My only issue is that it's a little too soon.  Dameshek couldn't wait I guess. I would've waited a couple of years to see how things around the AFC shape up before I did this.  It would've been better.

But this is NOT a bias against the Ravens, even though Dave is a Pittsburgh fan.  Sorry, I think this is an uneducated criticism on your part.

It wouldn't have bothered me if it weren't for that blatant shot at the last half a minute (and the Ray Lewis thing).

He seriously isn't being subtle anymore, c'mon. At least cry with some class, let it go.

Exactly. I love his little N if L" stuff. This is more of the "everyone bashes us" thing Ravens nation has. But on the other hand it was definitely done a bit too soon and he wasted its potential in my opinion.

I usually like these. What if Luck declared a year earlier was pretty good. The thing that got me this time was when he put Flacco on the Cardinals, and then the Browns, as if the Ravens only kept him based on one throw in Denver.

What if Dave Dameshek never wrote another article or made another useless video?  Would I ever again be unhappy?

There usually pretty funny dude. It's a joke people, jeez.

Man, if this one upsets you guys, don't even think about watching "What If Tyree Hadn't Made the Helmet Catch?" That turned into him making fun of us for Lee Evans and Billy Cundiff choking in the AFC Title game.  I can only imagine the reaction if you guys saw that.

Flacco joining the Browns would be the WORST. We would be stuck with this years rookie or free-agent QBs and then have the "pleasure" of facing Joe twice a season. Ugh.

I know right. Absolute nightmare. Funny thing is if it were up to the fans, had this fantasy of Dameshek's occurred, I could see Flacco being let go to FA. The best QB in Ravens history beating on us twice a year and the Browns becoming a legit contender. Just terrible if it were true. But hilariously funny otherwise.

The Uni-Brow-n joke made me chuckle, though. Pretty funny.

What if we drafted Matt Ryan instead of Joe Flacco? We might end up with 1 playoff win in 5year.....

Still crazy Biscotti/Bisciotti (can't remember how to spell it correctly, my apologies to Steve but I'm lazy) wanted to give up essentially multiple 1s, multiple 2s and 3s. Ready to sell the houuuuse for Matty Ice. Would be funny watching him play in the AFC North every year. Probably be damn near the bottom of the league statistically.

More like "What if the Falcons drafted Joe Flacco instead of Matt Ryan?"

Probably what some Falcons fans are thinking right now  :D

Actually I saw some threads on that topic in January on their boards.  In fact the title of one (which I sadly committed to memory, bad grammar and all) was "Ravens has Flacco and were stuck with Matty Water".  And there were quite a few posters on there who agreed with the OP.

I doubt that. Matt Ryan just has different skills and fits a different version(one where you throw 40 times) of the Ravens he must have had. Matty Ice would still be a good QB and clutch as well. That being said because of how different they are they both would struggle in the others position.

It really is pathetic how defensive this place gets. It's like anytime that the Ravens are criticized by someone who isn't a certified Ravens fan (and occasionally by someone who isn't perceived as enough of a Ravens fan), the whole forum acts like the whole world is out to get the poor Ravens.

Take this case for example. Dave Dameshek says that the Ravens forcing overtime on a 70 yard bomb with 30 seconds and change left on the clock was improbable, and, as a thought experiment, muses about what might have happened if it hadn't worked. Rather than laughing along with what is obviously a joke, the OP decides that Dave Dameshek obviously is just using this as a smokescreen to criticize the Ravens and that every writer on NFL.com is also out to get the Ravens.

I'm not saying the Ravens don't get disrespect from people, but can we take off the tinfoil hats and admit that maybe every criticism isn't meant as a put down from a media that's out to get us?

Keep banging you head against the wall, Nave. It starts to hurt eventually and you'll just learn to skim over the crap posters.

Actually, Dameshek is well known as a Steelers fan, regularly spouts how he's a Steelers fan, grew up loving and idolizing the steelers, and probably reads the forums for the Steelers and listens to the talk show hosts of Pittsburgh...

...and that gave him the idea for this segment.

To Dave I say.

And if my mother was the moon and my father was a lamp, then I would be a moonlamp.

This, so much.
