TE Dennis Pitta may play in 2013 - NFL.com

correct me if I am wrong but you can only have one person on IR- designated to return.

I am not sure how I feel about burning up that one spot so early in the season.

Not that I am saying Pitta is not worthy of being in that position, but it does present a risk.

With the current guys we have at receiver, I'd be more than happy having him back around the playoffs. (If that's the case, and he's 100% ).

He's unquestionably Joe's go to guy and the best receiver we have.

Yup...its already been posted and talked about.   Pitta, unlike Ray Lewis has a much more serious injury.   Considering the injury is all in the hips (dislocated & fractures), its something that he will have to work on for much more than this season imho.   The doctors have told him its a career ending surgery.  It will take him AP-like recovery for him to come back on field and be 100% of who he was before.   I wish pitta luck, but its highly unlikely he'll be back this year.  jmo.

It just means if someone else important sustains a long injury, they will have to stay on the 53 until they're healthy. That's how it was done until last year anyway. Pitta is the perfect player to use it on because we can use that open spot longer seeing as how this is the beginning of the season. That is, he's the perfect one to use it on if we really believe he'll be back at some point. I think we do believe that.
