Lots of talk about our WRs...but what about our TEs?

42 posts in this topic

Our TE situation it's kind of a mess. At least we saw some promise out of Brown and Mellette. But Furst is clearly not ready to start, and Clark about has looked terrible. When the only reliable player is Dickson...there are problems.

Think we use the Harvard kid as a TE more?

I think Furst proved why he's a PS guy tonight. I still think Clark makes it, and Bajema still might because of blocking. Definitely the most concerning position right now.

The one play Juice had he looked quick/fast and had good hands. I like him as an H-back type player... I like Furst's potential and don't seem him getting cut since there's no way he'll pass through waivers and hit the PS... Clark needs more time with Joe and they'll get in sync... Dickson is Dickson, i.e., he'll have flashes of greatness then drop three catchable balls in a row.

I would rather give our rookie Furstenberg a shot then Clark to be honest. But we're really lacking at this position. It would be interesting to see what they do with Juszczyk. Maybe Ozzie will find somebody that was cut by another team. I'm not too worried about it though. I like Dickson and hopefully he is going to live up to the "explosivenss" he had during training camp.

We might, but I think what we are going to mostly be doing is using more multiple receiver sets and trying to limit the TE use.  The key is Dickson getting healthy and in synch again - I really didn't appreciate how talented Dickson and Pitta were until I saw what the TE position looks like without them on the field.

Still don't understand the Furst won't make it to the PS talk. What has the guy shown that a team would give him a spot on the 53? He had once nice catch in the seam but that's it.

This is where the flat out incorrect measurables on the Ravens website come into play for me. They have Furstenberg listed at 6'5. He's a full 2 inches shorter than that everywhere else I look. That's a big difference. 6'3 is on the short side for TEs and really takes away a lot of the size advantage you should have from the TE position. The last play of the game tonight is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. If he's two inches taller he makes that catch. He needs some time to refine his game to make up for his lack of ideal size.

From what I heard from Aaron Wilson today, lots of teams liked Furst and would claim him if put on waivers... he's a pretty reliable source.

Furstenburg looked pretty good @ preseason 1-3. Clark looked terrible @ 3&4, and clark doesnt block anymore. So...furstenburg is ahead ....i hope.

Any links or anything? I pay quite a bit of attention to Wilson on Twitter and I've never seem him say anything of the sort. Not doubting you, just hoping to read it.

Thank you.  The same logic that said Tandon Doss would never play in the NFL again after tonight.  We need to step back and have a little perspective.

I've had those sources as well lol.

It's not often I disagree with someone that close to the team, but I'm still pretty adamant that Furst won't have a problem making it to the PS. I've not seen near enough to justify him being on a final roster. He's had one nice catch against 3rd stringers plus a couple of garbage time grans. Even if we don't think he makes it to the PS, he'll go the IR. He's not anywhere near ready, in my opinion.

I'm not disagreeing with you in that regard. He hasn't shown much, but he was pretty beastly in college FWIW.

I also wouldn't think Furst would have a problem making the PS. He's shown nothing. I'm gonna need Aaron Wilson to show me the receipts.

Yeah hes listed at 6'3 on the draft profile sites i looked at but then 6'4-6'5 on others. I always just considered him being on the short end and that along with his short arms(also not ideal) were cause for concern. That being said Dickson just isn't that durable so if Shiancoe is gone,Clark doesn't look as good as last year, and Dickson gets nicked up what do we do at TE when it comes to catching the ball. Just so many questions. It's going to take time for Furst to make a true dent though, but I believe injury will force him into a role.

Well...I pretty much called this. Of course I did call Dickson reliable, which is pretty much a barrel of laughs at this point.

I don't see how the personnel issue here is fixable.

Brandon22 -

Trade Jah Reid for Jimmy Graham and then trade Harewood (who we dont even have on the team) for Gronkowski and run 2 TE sets all day. Mix in Pitta when he returns and we're golden!!!

So the question is are we desperate enough for a TE that we'd sign Aaron Hernandez?

Can he be considered a tight end, at this point?
