Anyone worried about Kelechi Osemele?

There has been a lot of talk about how our guard tandem could be the best in the NFL, but I am concerned about KO. His name was brought up a lot in week 3 by Gruden and not in a good way. I went back and watched him specifially and he has not looked good this preseason, especially in the running game. There have been numerous missed blocks and he just looks slow off the snap. This is especially apparent in the zone blocking sets, he just does not look aggressive out there at all. He has looked better in angle blocking runs where he just has to get after one guy, but when asked to pull he has looked lost to me.

Maybe, I am concerned about nothing and it's just a preseason thing, but the sample size of KO at guard is still very small. He was great in the SB, but he wasnt exactly a dominant run blocker in last season's playoff run either.

He was playing a beast and Ngata clone. In his prime Star could be dominant.
Not worried one bit. Star flashed his potential IMO.

KO is fine. He had a bad game

He also got abused by Short. Yeah, they were high draft picks but it isnt just this game. He hasnt been on his game this preseason at all.

And neither has Joe according to many pundits tbh.

I think it also doesn't help that Birk is no longer next to him. Plus Yanda makes a big difference.

Personally he had a bad game, but I'd rather have him in

Sophie slump is VERY possible, but I don't think that's what it is

I'm not that concerned, I am just tempering my expectations a bit. Yanda will certainly help. I love KO's attitude and I think he has talent so I'm not sure there is anything to really worry about. It was just an observation.

As long as JAH Reid is not playing we are fine

Can you give me some plays? I was wondering if this was an isolated incident or something that was ongoing throughout preseason. Admittedly, I haven't been focusing as much on the OL and specifically KO's spot. Like everyone else, I saw him get beat last week against Carolina. Tell me what you specifically saw and how you saw it throughout preseason.

Do you think that his play has gone down due to the loss of Birk? Or do you think that it's something else?

Also, Jah Reid has been playing better? That's news to me. How?

I think a little concern might be warranted.  I noticed the abuse in the Carolina game, and PFF has not graded him well this preseason at all (I finally got my subscription, ha!).  Hopefully it's one of those things where he's not turning it on because it is preseason and his job is safe.  I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but Michael Oher looked like a Pro Bowler his rookie year before becoming the horrible player that he is.

I'm worried about the oline as a whole. It's concerning to me that the line can look like world beaters with Yanda in, but they look like a JV line on the first day of camp when Yanda comes out.

It's worrisome that one player makes that much of an impact.

Remember we don't study tape and scheme much during preseason. That makes a huge difference. Carolina actually ran some stunts and what not. They weren't playing too vanilla.

I'm worried about KO, Oher and Reid. Our offensive line has looked middle of the pack.

1 and a half of the 3 TO's in the Carolina game I chalk up to our offensive line.

They give Joe time to go thru his progressions in spurts and they give Rice and Pierce holes in spurts.

At times we look dominant, then on the flip we look awful. This was the case last season, our O-line was HIGHLY inconsistent, I'm looking for good play on a consistent basis from our guys up front.

KO is working with GIno/AQ at center and they may need to get in sync.

If that's not it, my guess is just that he has nothing to prove. The guy is a beast. I'm not worried about him in the preseason.

KO's development is one of the things I'm most excited to watch this season.  I really think he will be great, but I also don't think it's guaranteed that he just becomes a Pro Bowl-level guard right away this season.  I am very optimistic, but still excited because there is still a bit of the unknown here.

Im not worried about KOs talent. Its there. im worried about him getting complacent. He missed few assignment here and there. Im not worried though. I think he'll get the job done.

He has been getting beat off of the ball, he added muscle to his frame and he appears to be affected by it. Hopefully he get's it together soon.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Juan Castillo. New coach, new system, different assignments. I feel it's more that they haven't gelled yet under Juan but, I have no doubt it will happen. I also suspect that Birk not being here plays on this to some extent.

He had a great rookie season. I doubt he now sucks after one preseason game. I still think he's a probowler and will be apart of the best guard tandem in the league.

Tall guards will lose the leverage battle at times no matter how strong they are, I've seen Mike Iupati and Carl Nicks get thrown around at times too.

Also I honestly don't think there is a lineman in the league who can match lower body strength with Lotulelei.

It does bother me that KO stated right before the Carolina game that he can dominate anyone in front of him and turns around and gets dominated himself. I hope he watched and realized that he has a long way to go before he can truly be a dominant OL in the league and uses that as motivation to do so. That being said, I will wait until game 3 or 4 to praise or ridicule him.

Can you explain to me how a different run game coordinator can cause a player to lose a one on one match up against a three technique? That has nothing to do with a scheme. It has everything to do with a guy just getting beat.

Yes, there is a new coach. However, it is NOT a new system. No, offensive line pass blocking assignments do NOT change. In general, they stay the same from team to team. When the oline is faced with a 40 front and the three tech is over the LG, the LG blocks the three tech. Scheme rarely changes that assignment.

You can blame scheme for missing an assignment, but you can't blame scheme for screwing up and losing your battle. KO didn't miss his assignments. He just lost.

The dude told him he didn't have a good game and he needed motivation to become a pro bowl player and this is what he had to say. Im not worried.

Wow, pretty quick. I was wondering how long it was going to take and who it would be. Your the champ!
