How has Brandon Williams looked?

48 posts in this topic

The draft reports are somewhat right on his weeknesses. He wasn't always the quickest of the line and could use some training on footwork, but he is still very impressive for a rookie and looked very strong (atleast to me). I think, he has the potential to be amazing in a season or two.

Gotta say, though. Cody is kinda impressive right now. I've given up on him, but he is winning me back.

I agree with this assessment. I think he's still learning his get off and probably has been able to skimp on the core strength required for this level because of the mass he has on his extremities. However, what I love more than anything about this kid is his humility. You can just feel how happy he is to be here and when you can combine that with God-given ability and the size he has you're looking at dangerous player down the line. I mean, the dude sacks Cam Newton and doesn't even consider a dance. Another Harbaugh guy through and through.

Yeah man and who better to mentor him then Haloti??? I agree, he's humble and hungry. Hopefully he can avoid any serious injury and I'm excited what our rookies, not just him, will look like in a few years from now.

I think Brandon Williams has looked like he belongs in this league during the preseason, which is what you want to see from a small school guy.  He's played quite well against the run, and I think all of his issues shown can definitely be worked on.  Finding a run stuffing NT is not a bad use of a draft pick though, if that's all he winds up being.

He is a big dude and I feel bad for any C and G that will have to take on him and #92 when their on the line together. And if MT.Cody can finally find his form, we may have a cement wall right down the center of our defense.

He's not much of a pass-rusher, although he did get that sack on Newton. For the most part he hasn't gotten many pressures while he has been out there for quite a few pass-rush snaps. In fact that sack was his only pressure thus far in the preseason.

He is very stout against the run though. I have been very impressed with how well he anchors in the run game. He also shows the ability to shed blocks and make a quick lateral movement to bring down the ball carrier.

Yeah, I think Brandon will more than likely be the NT on running downs and on passing down, ngata will come in and Canty will get pushed to the DT spot. But by the looks of it, Upshaw, Suggs, Williams, Spears, and Ngata are gonna make one hell of a defensive front for our D.

He's huge and very athletic from what I've seen. Really quick with a nice burst, not what you expect when you see him. You'd expect a slow 3-4 NT who just takes on blockers but he can pass rush a little and shoot the gaps as well and make plays in the backfield, kind of like a Shaun Rogers although he's a bit short. But he's playing great right now, he can play any position in the 3-4 and DT in the 4-3 as well. Similar to Art Jones in some ways.

Who would you rather have to start RIGHT NOW? Williams or Cody? I must admit that Cody hasn't really sucked that much.

Williams without a doubt.
But irrelevant anyway, since Ngata will be the primary NT / DT

Cody hasn't earned that right. Even if that was the case, Brandon right now is way better and more productive. Cody is a one dimensional run stuffer when he's "on" (he never is by the way). Brandon can do both, and he gives 110% effort on every down, he plays with energy, fire, he's having fun out there, even against the #1 offenses. Cody needs to work his way back up first.

That DLine rotation is second to none in the league right now.

I disagree with the majority here and say Cody. He played poorly last year, but it turns out he was injured. He has played much better this preseason, but that's not the point. I'm never a fan of just throwing a rookie into the starting lineup because of talent alone. I want them to show me they MUST start, or it seems very reasonable to wait to put them in when they are ready to prove that. No rookie on our team has shown me that, yet, so I'm okay with letting them sit on the bech for a little while and develop into the stars we all know. They can do that on the field, sure, but it is risky to have an unproven guy in there right away being counted on to win games for you. You never know what kind of damage poor play will have on their psyche, either, and when/if they will recover from that.

Having said all that, Ngata will start, anyway. Both Cody and Williams will get snaps in the rotation, and everything will work out nicely.

Cody has looked fantastic this off-season. I'd start him above Williams without question at the O-Tech

I'm with you guys. I would start Cody over Williams at the moment.

But, Ngata is going to be the starting NT.

Yeah, it is pretty nasty.

Now I can stop mock drafting a DL to us in the first round every year lol

Wow im shocked. Their are still people who defend Cody on here. Im not alone.

I was ready to cut him after last season, but he has looked like a different player out there this preseason.
