G/T Rick Wagner

We could wind up in five years with 6 or 7 solid starters on our team that all came from this draft class.  That's pretty awesome.  Who knows, even some of the undrafted rookies from this season could still be on the team playing major roles.

True that. That's nearly impossible for any team to pull off.

Oh yeah I know.  Not expecting a superstar or anything there.  It's just that I'd never heard of the guy before, and I actually did a lot of research on the draft this year lol.

Lol, what was your opinion of Juice-Check??

I really liked him a lot, but thought 4th may have been a bit high for him.  I've learned to trust the FO though, so I'm happy with it lol.

Joe Thomas anyone?

Kevin Zeitler anyone?

Travis Frederick anyone?

Kraig Urbik anyone?

Peter Konz anyone

John Moffit anyone?

Lest we forget that Rick Wagner has never been considered to be as great as any of the above...nor was he ever expected to be as great

After Joe Thomas, I don't see any other 'blue chip' players that you mentioned earlier.   I could name other busts from Badgers, but i'd rather not argue.  All im saying is....don't believe the hype, just b/c his from 'Badgers'  Judge the player from what he'll do.  I wouldn't put stock on Wagner until he proves it on the field.

Hyping players  = Aka Doss 'sure-hand' now aka wasted time &opportunity for other players

Same thing as saying that all the Miami Hurricane players we draft will one day be stars just because of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Sure don't think that Tommy Streeter will morph into a star receiver overnight. Have to judge the player on his own merits, not based off of merits of his fellow alumni.

Kevin Zeitler is on his way to being one of the best guards in the league.  The rest need more time for judgment or are average.  But yeah, being from a certain school doesn't guarantee success at a certain position.

I won't say he can't do it because who knows.  We probably won't find out this year, but I will say that finding at least a capable starter at tackle that late in the draft would be very nice.

Kevin Zeitler is one becoming one of the best guards in the league. He had a +13.2 grade from PFF in his first season. That's good. I've heard mixed things about Konz. I think he played a lot of guard last season and that he is better suited at center were he will play this season.

I really like what I've seen from him so far. Don't know about LT of the future but a replacement for Oher at RT is a possibility IMO.

He looked good to me in the hips and everything so far from what I've seen. Just because a guy's profile says something doesn't mean it's true at the next level. Guys should improve and get better. It's possible he is improving. I'm not saying you're saying otherwise, and I'm also not saying I'm sold on the guy as a LT. Just throwing out my opinion here.

I will say that technique is a big deal and it's a big, big reason why Michael Roos (LT from TEN) has been so successful. In fact, it's the main reason.

Gross from Carolina too.  Mainly a technician.

Speak for yourself, I expect him to be better than Joe Thomas.

It would be awesome if he turned out that way though lol.

He has a similar build, and I think a similar skill set. They are very similar.

Fair point. Thomas has significantly better athleticism and fluidity but that's to be expected considering one is an all-pro and one is a 5th round draft pick.

Actually, I think Wagner does have solid athleticism. Not elite level, but above average for a 6'6, 310 pound LT. My only grief with him is his lack of strength. Wish he would get stronger or play stronger.

Hopefully an NFL Weight room and training staff can help correct that.

I think it will. He was a 240 pound TE in his freshman year of college, so he could still fill out his frame a bit more and get stronger.

I think his play is a big factor for the release of Harewood. It looks like we are developing him as a T-G rotation player which is what we do with all our reserves. So far he looks solid as a second string guy. For a 5th rounder he's a solid pick as a player who needs a year or two to become a starter. I'm pleased to see him panning out so far. Hopefully we won't need to use him very often this year.

I hope castillo can work some magic with jah Reid and whoever our center turns out to be. It is startling how ineffective our o-line is without Yanda. This is why I brought up the question about Wagner being moved inside. It appears we are in need of an upgrade at right guard without him. Don't be surprised if players are added from other rosters.

I think some of you are underestimating Wagner as he might be biggest steal of this year's draft.  Do an internet search on Ricky Wagner's draft scouting reports and you'll see that he was once predicated as a 2nd, even a 1st selection.  To get a 1st/2nd round talent in the 5th round is incredible, similiar to Arthur Jones.

He needs another year before starting
....

Nothing wrong with that. At least we have a starting caliber LT for him to sit behind unlike some teams lol

That Rick Wagner got his opportunity sooner than later and he was ready. He'll be ready to get coached up on where he can improve come Monday/Tuesday. He looked bad when he got beat, but I'm sure it's stuff that can be fixed

On Wisconsin!

On his first play he flat out pancaked a guy.  I don't think he played that bad, certainly no worse than that bum Oher.  Our entire line was crap today, I doubt any of them graded out positive.
