"Who Stays and Who Goes?" - The Final Vote Edition

33 posts in this topic

And here we are, the final vote.  The board's 53 man roster will be revealed on Friday, August 30th, one day before final cuts.

The final vote is simple.  You vote for guys who you think will make the team that haven't in place of guys that have made our team and you don't think should.  Below, I will mark each position with the number of guys we currently have on the final 53 at that position.  Below each position, I will note who's on the team that can be knocked off, and who is not on the team that can be added.  You do NOT have to substitute for like positions.  A WR can take the place of an OL.

It goes without being said that the number of votes for each poll must match up.  I chose players for the "off team" section that had a lot of votes/broke out, but didn't make the final roster.  For the "on team" section are guys that made the team, but not by close to the total number of votes.  Choose as many as you'd like.

Here are the choices:

Quarterback: 2 on roster

On Team: None

Off Team: None

Running Back: 3 on roster

On Team: Anthony Allen

Off Team: Bobby Rainey, Delone Carter

Fullback: 2 on roster

On Team: None

Off Team: None

Wide Receiver: 6 on roster

On Team: Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson

Off Team: Aaron Mellette, Marlon Brown, LaQuan Williams

Tight End: 3 on roster

On Team: Matt Furstenburg

Off Team: Billy Bajema

Offensive Line: 8 on roster

On Team: Jah Reid

Off Team: None

Defensive Line: 7 on roster

On Team: DeAngelo Tyson, Terrence Cody

Off Team: None

Inside Linebacker: 4 on roster

On Team: None

Off Team: None

Outside Linebacker: 5 on roster

On Team: None

Off Team: None

Cornerback: 6 on roster

On Team: Marc Anthony

Off Team: None

Safety: 4 on roster

On Team: Omar Brown

Off Team: Anthony Levine

Special team: 3 on roster

On Team: None

Off Team: None

Are we assuming Clark and Stokely are safe at this point?

Yes.  I didn't want to give the full roster away lol.  Clark was pretty much unanimous in the TE discussion and I made the executive decision to just include Stokley in place of David Reed.

I need to think some more on this but right now the following players are the ones I see as locks:

QB Joe Flacco and Tyrod Taylor
RB Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce
FB Vonta Leach and Kyle Juszczyk
TE Ed Dickson and Dallas Clark
WR Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Brandon Stokley
OL Bryant McKinnie, Kelechi Osemele, Gino Gradkowski, Marshal Yanda, Michael Oher, Rick Wagner and AQ Shipley
ST Justin Tucker, Morgan Cox and Sam Koch

That right there makes twenty one. On defense I see

DT Art Jones, Haloti Ngata, Chris Canty, Brandon Williams, Marcus Spears, Terrence Cody
DE/OLB Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, Josh Simon, Courtney Upshaw, Pernell McPhee
ILB Daryl Smith, Arthur Brown, Josh Bynes
CB Lardarius Webb, Jimmy Smith, Corey Graham, Chykie Brown.
S James Ihedigbo, Michael Huff, Matt Elam

That's a total of 42 players with 11 spots open. After further thought, I think the following players are near-locks:
TE Visanthe Shiancoe
S Omar Brown
DT DeAngelo Tyson
LB Albert McClellan
CB Marc Anthony

That leaves me with about six spots open and I'm not sure there.

This is not easy at all... So much talent. It's gonna be a tough week for Ozzie when's he's gonna be making these decisions.

I really hope Berry makes this team... he is a good hard and quick runner and after watching his block on special teams he can fill in for Anthony... also he plays well on kickoff. I hope Doss gets his stuff together to... he has potential but hasn't showed it.

I would assume at least half of those six spots go to receivers, and there will most likely be at least one more back.  That doesn't leave a lot of room for the rest of the defensive hopefuls.  I'm guessing to get to the 21 on offense/specialists you included Leach and Juice even though they aren't listed.

I really don't like the Clark signing... he may be a good signing down the road but... if we need a tight end that can split out may the juice can fill that role. Once Dickson is healthy we will have him and a bunch of old tight ends.

Like you said, only Dickson is healthy (and he's not even 100%), so what's the problem?  Would you rather have no tight ends than old tight ends?

I would rather start with Dickson Bajema and Frustenburg... if Pitta comes back later this year like some hope then we can release someone. Clark wasn't picked up for a reason or I am just over thinking it.

Yeah, good job noticing that lol. Thanks. I edited my post.

As for the six, I agree to an extent. I believe one of Brown, Doss, Thompson and Mellette well be placed on IR. Whoever isn't makes the team. I know a lot of guys are high on Williams but I just don't see him making it. I don't care either way and I'm sure someone will come and ask me why I have Doss over Williams. Lol.

The truth is I just don't think we'll give up on Doss yet. I think if anyone is on IR it well be Mellette, Brown or Thompson.

Personally, my guess for the final 6 are the following:
48. WR Tandon Doss
49. WR Deonte Thompson
50. WR Marlon Brown
51. CB Marc Anthony
52. OL Jah Reid
53. RB Anthony Allen

Note, those are the guys I expect not the guys I necessarily want. I actually want Joe Unga or Jordan Devey to make it as an OL. I also would probably put Mellette above Thompson right now and put Deonte on the IR because his return skill left something to be desired. Mellette impressed me on ST. I'd also put Rainey as our RB right now above Allen. I know Allen was a beast lead blocking for Jacoby but I am not impressed by the other RS on the roster now. Yes, that includes Deonte.

I also think that Billy Bajema is right on the cusp of making the team. He's close. At least I feel like he is

I found a spot for him. Give him one of Marc Anthony's spots on your list, unless we actually have two of them and I missed it.

Clark was picked up to give us a real boost in the passing game. He is a much better option than Furst right now. Furst has shown flashes, but he hasn't stood out enough to get the number two spot for us, an he hasn't really been big for us on special teams. A year on the practice squad with us will do him, and us, good. Bajema might make it because he has earned a lot of trust in the blocking game. It'll be Dickson, Clark an either VS or Bajema (or potentially both).

I think it would be difficult. My original list only had 4 CBs, which were Webb, Smith, Graham & Brown. I realize Huff & Elam could both play CB or dime back. I just think Anthony will get a spot because I can't see us carrying less than 5 CBs.

I'm just saying, you listed Anthony as one of your "near locks" and then again as one of your final six. He might be necessary, but not so much that he's worth two roster spots.

Ahh! You're right. I still don't think we carry 4 TEs.

I agree.  Especially since we have Juszczyk that can operate as that "4th TE"

Yeah, it's a long shot.  Maybe Mellette or Laquan get that last spot.  That's more likely.

At this point, I'm going to guess its the following:

QB - 2
RB - 3
FB - 2
WR - 6
TE - 3
OL - 9
DL - 7
ILB - 4
OLB - 5
CB - 5
S - 4
ST - 3

I'm almost the exact same in my last analysis.  I have 8 linemen and 7 receivers.  That's the only difference, but I wouldn't bet against your breakdown.

I think there's a good chance that Anthony Levine makes the team. I can't recall if I had him making it but I think he has a shot and a good one.

I agree that he has a good shot, in my opinion.  He's looked very good on ST and has been consistently running with the 1st team there.

Mellete either makes the team or gets ir'd . I don't see anyway that a draft pick is not with the team the same year , plus he has shown some ability

I think it's possible but it's more likely he goes on IR like you said. I think Streeter will be our PS WR this year.

Yeah. I think he'll be one of the five safeties we carry.

I'm also still a bit surprised so many of us are ready to throw Doss out of the building. I know he's struggled a lot this preseason on offense and even last year. With that said, I really liked his last play. It really did it for me. The guy showed a passion and heart I've been waiting to see. Perhaps he knows his number is getting close to being up. I don't know. I loved how he fought hard to get the YAC even if he didn't get a lot. He really made a push there. Because of that and what I've seen from him on PR I think he has a good shot of making this team. He's still not done. Not yet.

But hey, for all I know he could be one of our next cuts. Just my opinion.

Yeah I was ready to give up on him after that interception, but cooler heads prevailed, and I'm not 100% sure I'm ready to let him go yet.  I think my biggest issue with him right now is the way he's conducting himself.  He has the look of a guy that knows the writing is on the wall.  I really wasn't a fan of his response to the media about the interception, saying Flacco was to blame as well.  To me, his demeanor suggests that he knows his days are numbered.  I'm kind of conflicted with him right now.  I'll give one more week to reserve judgment.

I absolutely dislike his attitude and have for a while. Thinking back on it, I remember last year when Cary Williams called him the ultimate insult--soft. Cary might have been right. I don't know as I don't know these guys personally but I dislike Doss' attitude and how he is displacing the blame even if it is or was both of their fault.

I also felt like he could be cut but I'm a bit more level headed than then and I feel he's 50/50 at this moment.

Yeah I don't know what's going on in his head.  He clearly has a lot of talent, but has absolutely no confidence.  I hate to say it, but he may be one of those change of scenery type of guys.  He's in his 3rd year and still just looks lost out there at times.  When he's on, he's on, but we all know what happens when he's off.  I'm not sure if he'll ever have it here, especially since 90% of the city is calling for his head.

On the flip side, you have a guy like Brown who has been in and out of practice and still looks like he knows what to do out there.  He's getting open and finding gaps.  I don't know that he becomes a big contributor this year, but at least he seems to know what he's doing.  It's getting to the point where it's hard to justify keeping Doss over a guy like Brown.

The truth could be that he and Flacco just don't click. They might not have the chemistry to be compatible. It happens. That's a big reason why I feel like guys fail in free agency. I feel like a lot of times the connection they had with other teammates elevate their individual games and when removed they're just not the same. Obviously the truly best players aren't necessarily impacted by this to the same degree, but Mario Williams was a beast with Houston and hasn't exactly lived up to his money. Could be the injuries.

My point is, if we were to trade Doss for fair compensation then I wouldn't be upset with the idea. I still like the guy. I was never a fan and I was pulling for Smith as a rookie even when he was being thrown under the bus. I just feel like this might not be the right place for him.

I'd love a Doug Baldwin or Austin Pettis for Tandon Doss trade or something to that effect, though I'm admittedly unsure how realistic that is. Regardless, at this point I feel Tandon makes the team until I have reason to believe otherwise.
