Turnovers becoming a trend this preseason

47 posts in this topic

I'm not saying the sky is falling or the world is coming to a end. Just pointing out that this is becoming a unwelcomed trend. I understand this is mostly due to trying to figure out what we have and what we need but Flacco has a pick in every game. I can't say the reciever is all to blame because its the terrible Oline play as well as the recievers not fighting for the ball.

Joe does get some of the blame as well because he's staring down his targets instead of letting his instincts drive him. I know this will probably not even be a issue when the season starts but its still concerning. Maybe Flacco is trying to hard and needs to just let the game come to him or maybe the playing calling is so vanilla this is happening. I'm not sure I'm just a little concerned tho at this point.

I'm not too worried.  We have a good track record of limiting turnovers.  I don't think this will be a trend.  Frankly, I'd take the turnovers tonight over 3&outs in the preseason.  If we continue to move the ball like we did, we'll be fine.

Jah Reid is that guy who doesn't cover his mouth when he sneezes. Before you know it everyone is infected.

Marshal Yanda makes offenses happy:

I don't think it's any surprise that we scored a TD on the opening drive with Yanda in. I didn't notice when Yanda left but it must have been fairly quickly. As soon as Reid came in our o-line started to struggle. Add that to a bad game by Osemele and the result is not surprising.

Oher played bad today as well. He missed assignments but Reid was plain awful. KO gets a pass in my book because this wasn't something you see often. Like in the case of Oher and getting blown by or Reid being flat out terrible. Reid reminds me of Chris Chester. Has the build and talent just can't put it together on the field.

I guess, Harbs had seen enough of Yanda to know, that he wasn't rusty and didn't want to overdo it, so he can be 100%healthy in the regular season.

When is Yanda's contract up? Is he happy in Baltimore? Whatever he wants, we have to get it! He can have Jah Reids contract if he wants to, that for sure. -_-

In fact, unfortunately Flacco was picked off 3 times and 1 was picked out of bounds. Flacco has been uncharacteristically making poor judgments this pre-season. He is also being hurt by young receivers not running their routes correctly. At least 1 int was Doss' fault. Hopefully, he corrects his INTs before regular season begins.

He signed a big extension a couple years ago. He should be locked up for at least another few years.

The Shincoe pick was more on Joe but Shincoe could have atleast made a play on the ball. I'm not impressed with him and hope he's cut. We need youth since we have a surpluss of vets now.

I'm not really worried.  You see how good we can be if we DON'T turn the ball over.  The talent is there on defense, and after tonight, the WRs aren't the biggest problem with the offense I don't think.  It's the line.  I don't care who your receivers are.  If our guys block like they did tonight, the offense won't go.  You give Joe time, and he can get Marlon Brown involved.

Thank god Yanda will be ready for opening night.  The team needs him.

Yeah, but that was blatant PI.

I don't think Joe will try to force these passes in the regular season, not nearly this much at least.  Too much at stake.

When we put on our other receivers like Doss, the route-running was horrible and poor ball vision that lead to turnovers, Flacco was a lot better with the 1st unit of receivers with Stokely and Smith.

Of course Joe is staring down his targets.  Last year he knew every route every guy would take and knew that whomever it was would make the right read.  He had faith in a number of targets and well, we won a Super Bowl.  This preseason?  He's gotta make sure a guy's gonna be where he's gonna be.  Honestly, Brown was one of the few guys Joe has just been winging it to without waiting a long time; Marlon's gonna make the 53 easily.

Flacco threw a pick in four straight games at one point last year.  It didn't become a trend.  He had an INT and a lost fumble in three straight games at another point last year.  It didn't become a trend.

Neither of the INTs were Flacco's fault.  Doss ran the wrong route on a blitz play and thus Flacco threw into thin air.  Kuechly just made a beast play on the other INT.

I'm more concerned with our lack of turnovers on defense.

Besides that Atlanta game (exception of Webbie) our first team defense hasn't been on the field that much though...especially last night.

Doss' Int was on Doss.  Flacco still isn't quite gelled yet with these receivers.  It will get better.  Also, credit where credit is due Carolina's D is pretty good.  I like and respect Kuechly's  play.

It is a concern but not huge at this point. Its pre season. Flacco's 1st pick was more Doss's fault. The attempted pass to Shancoe was all Joe, although Shancoe did nothing to try to break it up. Its seams bad if you look at the numbers, but remember... Flacco is building a chemistry with alot of new receivers.  With that comes some growing pains. I would rather have it now in the Pre season than when it really counts. Yes, I am disappointed. I thought things would be better at this stage but it is what it is. We still have some work to accomplish. I will say the turnover that bothered me the most was Pierce's fumble. That deep in your half of the field you have to protect the ball. Punt coverage also looked bad on the Ginn TD. Soon as we missed the tackle I could see nobody was home, that he was going to score. Bottom Line, we are still 0-0.

you just can't throw that windows to the hot guy when the LB is starring you down in a zone blitz

That's Madden 101 that any linebacker that is user controlled will make 90% of the time....the other 10% being batted down. you need a bigger window in the scenario because it's easy to step between the man and ball.

Stop trying to excuse Flacco of everything. The first INT was 100% Doss but the second was all on Joe. I don't really care that much though, better he test the limits of what he can rifle in now.
