I'm going to laugh too because I think he still makes it despite being what he is. On another note I found a little something. http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=8&c=1&nid=3145458

Interesting, he was a five star recruit.  I wonder if he's a typical Georgia player, but still liked what I saw tonight.  He didn't have impressive numbers in college, it will be difficult to find something extensive on him.

Talk to me again in a couple of days. I think I'm still reeling from the game lol. I'm coming back to earth, and Doss still may make the team. I don't know how we're going to pick 6.

what I liked so much is his TD was a post route from the slot. I would love to have a WR that can go deep up the middle of the field. It will open things up even more for Clark and Stokely.

And after Doss's practices, he had less playing time than Mellette and Brown, and did less with it. The coaches rotated the WRs because they clearly weren't impressed with him or the other receivers at the top of the depth chart.

He has done nothing to impress, and isn't a high enough draft pick (or a rookie, so comparisons to 2011 Torrey are meaningless) for the team to bite the bullet. He's not even a huge asset on STs.

He's as good as gone, I'd bet everything on that.

Bet your account. If you're wrong, close your account and start a new one.

After Doss' practices he opened up the year no. 3 and stayed as the no. 3 until Stoke was signed. Same as Torrey was the no. 2 until they traded a 4th for Lee Evans in mid august. Doss didn't get less playing time after practice, he did after Mellette and Brown made plays on 5th string defensive backs. I'm glad Marlon stepped up and made plays against 1st stringers. I liked him a lot today, but let's temper ourselves and look for consistency.

There exponentially more plays run in practice than what we see in preseason games. We look at the tip of the iceberg and make decisions. Coaches see the entire mountain of ice.

Got a great impression of him tonight.  The differences in the route running of him and Doss are night and day.

He didn't look lazy at all. He went outside, then cut back inside. Joe told him he has to keep going one way, if he's going to go outside, stay outside (finger point). But Doss twisted back in. It was a QB-WR miscommunication.

I'm going to be laughing (neg me all you will), when Doss makes the 53. I think Brown and Mellette will make it too, but remember these two are guys who can be stashed on a PS and not picked up. Brown looked good though. Who did he make his catches against? If someone can compile the names of the CBs, that'd be good.

To be honest I'm mostly excited about Stokley. The way Stoke and JJ played tonight, neither Doss or Marlon or Mellette will see the field unless BOTH of those guys go down, or one of them does.

I hope Brown starts as the #4 receiver though. He's got big play potential, and a big body.

All I know is Doss isn't guaranteed a roster spot but I still think he has a chance to earn a spot. I think he'll be safe for another week and he'll have to fight for his spot next week. I didn't hone in on him the whole game so I'm not sure but I do remember him not looking terrible except for the one play resulting in an interception.

Oh yeah, I loved this too. He just snatched it right out of the air in traffic, too. I think it'll do wonders for his confidence. I'd rather Marlon Brown turn into something special. 6'5. He's different than Doss/Torrey/Jacoby/Mellette who are all about the same size.

I'm hoping for a future wideout corps with 3 good receivers, maybe 4. Something like what the Packers have, after Jacoby and Brandon leave/retire. Hopefully we can field 3 1,000 yard receivers or something.

I hope we can see a few plays where we line up with Smith Jones Brown Dickson. With Smith and Jones on the outside and send them all deep. I think we are bound to get a mis match on Dickson or Brown. Norv Turner made a killing with this play in San Diego when they had Jackson/Gates/Flloyd. I hope we adopt it here.

Or! you know what?

Bet me your signature. If Doss makes the team, I can put whatever I want in your sig space for 2013. If Doss gets cut, you can put whatever you want in the space of my signature [both content of sigs of course complying with the ToS/User agreement]

My question is, how fast it he?
If he is fast then we have #1 potential here. And that's scary

Pump the brakes SAM, just one pre-season game.  This isn't a guy who produced in college and got hurt, this is a guy who didn't really produce in college but got hurt.  He's basically an unknown at this point.

Are you serious? Torrey Smith got the start. A START. Not limited snaps here and there in preseason or in any other game. He was told, "you're the man. You're starting opposite Anquan this Sunday." Not because of the limited opportunities that you saw Doss get in preseason and the playoffs, no, after those limited opportunities Torrey Smith didn't look like he deserved to start. 99% of this board thought he looked like a bust and wanted him out of here, and were declaring Ozzie as an idiot savant who was all savant except when it came to WRs where he was an idiot, apparently. So after all those "given opportunities" same as Doss, everyone came away looking at Torrey (this included 2 regular season games with him as the no. 3 receiver, and half a game where he was the no. 2 receiver after Evsns got injured) EXACTLY how you're looking at Doss.

But then what happened? Torrey didn't EARN a start because of his play in limited opportunities. Lee Evans got injured, and had to sit out. He wasn't cleared to play. So then the coaches told Torrey, you're going to be the starting receiver.

When that happens for Doss, then talk.

Yea, except Torrey made something of himself that same year.  Ya know, the same year he was drafted.  In only his third game, he became the first rookie in NFL history and only the twelfh ever to score three (THREE) TDs in one quarter.  When that happens with Doss, then talk.

Doss has had MORE than enough time to do SOMETHING, and he hasn't.  Period.

I never said sure thing lol.

I thought that if he wasn't injured he had a chance to produce? Maybe I was wrong.

But 6'5, 215, and a reasonably fast 40 time with solid hands is hard to cover, which is why I say this

If people want to be excited about something during preseason, then meh..let them eat cake. He did play very well, and showed improvement, and it was against no. 1 defense, not 5th stringers. There's reasons to be hopeful/excited.

Also, marlon didn't participate in the combine due to his ACL. But, i've seen things like 4.57 and 4.65..Who knows. If he can beat people to the ball, that's all I care about. He's not AJ Green, I understand that.

Well, I put a lot of stock into Mellette and Brown seeing a LOT of playing time in the 3rd preseason game.  I also put a lot into Marlon making those catches against starters.  As far as I'm concerned, he's earned a great deal of playing time.

The 6'5 helps lol.
Turns out he had a very meh season last year. 3 100 yard games, but only 460+ total. Then he was injured. He was injured a lot in college too.

I think he could be a solid #2. But if his measuresables are what they say, then DAMN I'm excited lol

Yeah but this report shows weaknesses that are easily corrected. I still wish there were reports on his physical tests but he didn't do much at the combine.

I'm down for this, let's do it.

Hold on, not a good idea. Doss can make the team just because of injury concerns to everyone else and how long he has been here(knowledge of PB and familiarity). This one isn't in your favor because of how untested our receiving corps is. No matter how bad he did tonight its a kneejerk reaction. Although this type of bet is interesting its rigged against you.

He's got wheels, too. I like how he catches with his hands, extends his arms, goes up and gets the ball, attacks it. Looks like he has decent focus. Hopefully he's our no. 2 by season's end.

Sigh. You're just not getting it. There's a difference between being a starter, and not being a starter. A player could have 12 years or 1, when they get their first start: it's still the same.

Doss hasn't had more than enough time to do something. He hasn't had any starting time at all. When Torrey didn't have any starting time at all he looked bad too. The difference? The guy ahead of Torrey got injured and Torrey started.

It'd be a diff story if Torrey outplayed Lee Evans in preseason and practice, and then started. But he didn't. He looked awful, and people wanted his head and called him a bust. He got the start via an 'act of god' and never looked back. Doss hasn't gotten his opportunity to be handed a start on a silver platter via an 'act of god' and hasn't gotten a chance to never look back.

I love on the third or 4th catch the DB looked like he was going to have an easy INT then Brown came back to the ball and bullied the DB for it. I'm still deployed so I don't get to watch games :( but I wish I could have seen him in action
