Damien Berry - Chances of Making the Team

25 posts in this topic

I like Berry. I followed him from the "U". Does anyone think he has a chance making this team... we can use him as a running back and possible special teams because he started as a special teams and safety in college before moving to rb.

Hardly any chance at all. He has to compete with not only Allen and Rainey, but now he has to compete against Carter as well. I think we only keep 3 runningbacks this season, with a very slim chance at keeping 4. That gives you Rice/Pierce/Carter/Allen/Rainey/Berry. 4 guys competing for 1 or 2 slots to make the team. I think Carter makes it. If we are to keep a 4th guy around, it'll be primarily for ST, and Allen is the best one at that role left out of the remaining possible players.

Everyone has Berry behind Allen but out of our RB so far he is the only player performing... doesn't matter who its against. You deal with what you get.

There is speculation that he loses that spot to Juszczyk. (Allen)

I guess you could hold to a glimmer of hope that he takes Reed's place as the backup return man, but even that is grasping at straws.

Ok, fair deal, that still leaves you with Rainey, Carter, and Berry competing for one final spot. I like Berry, but I don't see his fit on this team.

I think it's a longshot that Carter even makes the team. We're only carrying 3 RBs. I'd be shocked if they carried any more considering we will have to carry 2 FBs this year. Anthony Allen is a beast on special teams so I always thought he would be the 3rd back.

Nope. He seems to be gone with the addition of Carter. I don't think he even gets put on the PS. That would probably be Rainey's spot.

Yeah, but we've already seen last year, the team values special teams play over performance in general. Rainey blew them away last year, but Allen won the spot because of special teams.

I don't think he makes it this year.... I like him too, but, he just hasn't gotten any separation from the other RBs. So, I think this may be the end of the road for him.

He had a big block with that punt return for a TD today. He also had a big block on the PR from Asa Jackson last week. Those will definetly help his case. It should be interesting to see if he makes the team.

I think Rainey and Allen are sure locks in terms of what they bring to special teams. Not locks to make the team, but we know what they can do on special teams. I think that gives them the edge over him

rainey, allen, and berry all looked good tonight... could they all stick around? just woundering since we did last year...

It will be tough to pull that off.  It might even be better for them to have a shot to play somewhere else, too, because they won't get much time on the field for us.
