Ravens Trade WR/KR David Reed to Colts for RB Delone Carter

Inside sources are telling me that we're about to pull off a move for a pretty good receiver. Might happen, might not.

We trading for Doug Baldwin? Lol.

Because he's not a flashy player.

Guess he needs to smoke some pot with Reed and commit some untimely fumbles to get some attention...

Why is that so hard to understand for so many people????

True this. You have a guy who is likely to be cut, and a guy who can realistically compete for a backup job and make the roster. Who has more value? Basic logic tells you that the guy who may make the roster, in any situation, is more valuable than someone who will not make the team.

Carter is a solid #2 RB

}
#2 RB for #6 WR= LMAO

Seriously. I've never seen so many people disappointed over trading a guy that didn't even play at WR in the first two preseason games for a guy that will take the #3 RB spot, and maybe push Pierce.

You would think that Reed was actually a contributor to this offense.

Hey, I know we gave Reed a 500K (I believe) bonus. Does anyone know the details of this trade? Is that bonus also picked up by the Colts or do we eat it? Sometimes I know you can pass the bonus money along as well. Just curious here if someone has any legit info. I don't want any guesses.

I posted that Unmm. Earlier because I thought it was Donald Brown at first lol.

Not the biggest fan of his.

Yes!  Reed is gone!  Hallelujah!  We dumped off his horrendous contract!

This is similar to the Baldwin-Jenkins trade though.  Nothing for nothing, I doubt Carter even makes the roster.

I wasn't expecting this at all... I thought Harbs really liked Reed. I didn't like Reed as a receiver, but still, we could have possibly used Reed since we're pretty much drained at WR. I don't really think we need another RB. If only we could have got T.Y. Hilton. for David Reed (I wish)

We could still cut Carter, and then we wouldn't be in any different shape than before had we cut Reed, except that we save money, so that's a win.  However, I feel like if we traded for a guy, that might mean we actually like him and want him to make the team.  That's bad news for Berry and Allen.  This trade is good news for guys like Laquan Williams, though (unless Seahawk's inside source thinks differently).

My inside sources have told me not to say who it is, because they don't want sites like Bleacherreport or PFT running the player off.

Lets put it like this....

Last year Carter had 32 carries for 122 yards and 3 TD.

That is the equivalent of one great game as a starter, or 3 awesome performances as a backup.

What has Reed done again? Other than those fumbles and smoke all Ricky Williams' weed....

So that's why Williams retired and wouldn't return to our team.

I don't see how this hurts but I don't really see how it helps either. The Ravens already have two big physical backs in Pierce and Allen, one of those is a lock for the 53 man squad and I find it hard to believe Allen won't make it either with how good he has been on special teams. With Rice, Leach, and Juzszcyk also locks Im not sure where Carter fits barring an injury. I guess the same could have been said about Reed in the receiving corps so its a sort of a wash at the moment. Guess we'll see what happens, Carter isn't eligible for the practice squad so...

We have to eat his signing bonus money, but he still had a sizable base salary that's off our books now.  It was a bad contract, but not a cripplingly bad one.  Its damage is relatively minor.

But we need good receivers! Not running backs! Why would we trade a WR when we need at least 10 of them?!

That's what the PMs is for

Okay I like what Ozzie did here, although I don't completely understand it. What is really the end game here? How much extra cap space did we recover? These are questions that I need answered. I suppose the next couple of weeks will shed light on Ozzie's real plan...

If this does happen, I'm either loving it or hating it (depending on who we get or trade away)

I wish they would give our younger guys a chance. I really wanna see Mellette or Thompson start in an actual game.
