Ravens Trade WR/KR David Reed to Colts for RB Delone Carter

272 posts in this topic

I didn't say he was quality, just that we need bodies there more than at rb. And yes he fumbled, but he at least could be used to prevent Jacoby or Deonte (should he win a spot) from getting hurt returning kicks. Carter basically does nothing for us unless Pierce gets hurt in which case he still does nothing because he isn't good enough to steal carries from Rice. Anyway, I dont see Carter as really any better than Allen so yea.

Ok, I'll make it simple -- ignoring the fact that Carter has a decent bit of potential as a short yardage back --

is Reed worth $2M?

Are we the new Jets? When they wanted to be us?

I wouldn't say so, and it's not a bad thing.

A good player is a good player, period. If he has a connection to a coach, cool. I don't see an issue with it.

We have no reason to want to be like the Colts though.

Well...considering we have no sure WR other than Torrey.   But....we do have 2 solid backs.   I don't see the point of getting another back.

My lasting memory of Reed will be that game in Seattle a couple of years ago.   Glad he is gone.

Well, do you see the point in keeping Reed for $2M? I dont, and I really liked Reed.

Carter will likely end up as our #3 back, and if anything happens to Rice or Pierce, Carter is a solid #2. If we didn't already have Pierce, I'd say he could steal a chunk of short yard / goalline carries from Rice.

Agreed, but at least there was a necessity for him. He could be used to return kicks in place of Jacoby and he provided receiver depth in which case not everyone after Torrey and Jacoby are about even. Delone Carter provides absolutely nothing imho.

I don't really see why Carter was added either, but he has shown some flashes. He is better than our current RB depth after Pierce IMO. Thus also might signify some concern about Pierce's durability. Reed was just another guy.

I think some of you are incorrectly linking # of bodies to actual production.

But having more wide receivers makes up for not having quality wide receivers! It's obvious, isn't it?!

Dude, three David Reeds equals one .... Bernard Berrian. If we collect enough Reeds, we might have a solid #3

Another possibility is AA/Rainey going to a new team.   Possibly for a better trade than this one.

Either way, this move didn't really help us in any direction.

So quantity > quality? You lost me.

Happy to get rid of Reed but I still don't really understand Carter's role

Im guessing money reasons. Carter probably wont even be on the team.

It didn't hurt us in the least. Reed was likely getting cut regardless.

But it has potential to be very beneficial. No risk, moderate reward, plus we will save some $$ in cap room..... what is not to like??

Inside sources are telling me that we're about to pull off a move for a pretty good receiver. Might happen, might not.
