Who has surprised you during this preseason?

Very impressed with: Elam, Ty Taylor, D. Smith and Mellette. I've read were some have been impressed w/ Cody, I guess I need to read up on how he's looked so far.

I know this may be blasphemous, but I'm not impressed by what I've seen so far from Ngata. It's almost seems as though he's playing to not get hurt. It doesn't seem as though he has that burst that he did a few years back. I know he dropped weight, so I was expecting more explosion from him. Moving inside to NT, his ideal position, I was expecting more. Considering that 2nd year guard K.O. is basically saying he's having his way with him, is troubling to hear.

Good Surprises

Tyrod Taylor & Asa Jackson (I expected Canty, D. Smith, Mellette & Elam to be good)

Bad Surprises

Jacoby Jones, Tandon Doss & AQ Shipley (I expected J. Smith to still be bad)

The Best: Tyrod Taylor (I can't believe I wanted to bring in Jamarcus Russel to replace him), Aaron Mellette and Ricky Wagner (Both could be starting within 2-3 years), AJax (he's put together a pretty good case for being on the team after 8 weeks), Daryl Smith (I can't believe the Jags let this guy go).

The Worst: Michael Huff (He got a lot of praise, but so far all I've seen is missed tackles and blown coverage), Tommy Streeter (Lazy on the field, and apparently unwilling to put in the work to improve his game), Jimmy (Still bites on the double moves, and has trouble locating the ball), every other returning WR not named Torrey Smith, A.Q. Shipley (for all of the hype he had I expected way more than we got on Thursday).

Cody is playing with better technique and seems to be less reliant on his size. He's using good leverage and good use of hands.

Ngata is getting pushed back in the run and I'm not too happy to see that.

Jimmy isn't as bad as people say. He played well against Vincent Jackson. He has a bad game against Atlanta. Chykie Brown has looked worse than Jimmy. Way worse. Good point on Huff. He hasn't looked good at all.

Ricky Wagner.  I thought it was possible, but unlikely that he'd be able to play LT.  He's still got work to do, but I've been pleasantly surprised with how well he's done on the blind side.

I told you so :)
