Which receivers have earned a roster spot so far?

Yeah, I would be very excited if these were our receivers... By seasons end I predict the top 3-4 would eventually be...

Smith

Brown

Mellete

Stokley

Two rookies and a geriatric refugee from Denver?  Somehow, I wouldn't be too excited about that scenario

Would you guys feel comfortable with Smith, Stokely, Jones, Brown, Mellete, Thompson, and WIlliams as our 6-7 WR's, or would you still want to see Oz swing a trade for someone like (assuming its even possible) Britt, Hicks, etc...?

I love Torrey, and am somewhat comfortable with Stokley, as long as he is a role player. Other than that, I would not feel comfortable with any of those guys anywhere near the field on game day, until one of them proves otherwise.

I dont know about a trade, but it seems that if one will happen, it will happen right after our last game, depending on what we see from the young guys. Our staff holds these guys accountable, and will really put them through the fire before making any business decisions involving new blood coming in

I understand your point, and don't get me wrong I like Deonte. But the cold, hard truth as I said is the combination of his injury with guys like Mellette and especially Brown (seriously, very few of us saw that coming at least this year anyway coming off that injury in college) taking advantage of the situation hurts Deonte pretty badly. And as I said, all 32 teams passed him in the draft and although several were interested in him as an UDFA, Deonte himself said the Ravens amd Eagles were the only ones interested in him as a receiver which is why he signed here. Realistically, the practice squad isn't a bad place to stash him in the event of other player injuries or guys just not getting it done. I don't think there is really enough game tape of Deonte for another team to want to snag him and none of them are seeing him in practice. The Eagles could theoretically grab him but I think its a risk the front office may be willing to take. We will start getting a clearer picture by Tuesday though...

I think the ravens need Thompson mainly because it seems like Jacoby Jones will be only kick returner and im sure the ravens are not going to ask  Ladarius Webb to do kick returns and you dont want over work Jones either especially if he's going to be the number two wideout . Since David Reed is gone it means  that Deonte Thompson is  the second best kick returner and it may be best to have that extra kick returner to give  Jones a break. I would say Asa Jackson would be a nice solution to such problems but he's going to be suspended so they ravens really need good back up kick returner now .

Mellette, Brown, and Williams have earned spots in my opinion. Laquan hasn't shown a lot, but he's shown more promise than Streeter, DT, and Doss.

I see our depth chart looking like this around midseason

1. Torrey

2. Stokley

3. Mellette

4. Brown

5. Jones

6. Williams

I see Jones, Stokley, Mellette, and Brown being rotated in and out a lot though, depending on the situation. In formations with 21 personnel, I think I want Torrey and Stokley. Stokley offers the most as a blocker. If not him, Brown or Mellette. Jacoby doesn't offer anything as a blocker or as a possession receiver, so he shouldn't be on the field when there is 21 personnel out there.

Good point and one that I overlooked in my analysis, although I do remember Laquan fielding punts last preseason and looking solid at it. It will make for some tough decisions starting Tuesday and for the following week...

well considering they both have more than 2 catches(and thats just from thursday night alone), and considering that brown was making catches with a majority of the first team, against the majority of the panthers first team(who was making almost all of our other starting receivers look bad) id have to look at the evidence and say your point was just brainstormed and made up out of nowhere with no real thought or logic.

LOL....burned!

But he said "by seasons end" (don't forget what Torrey accomplished by the end of his rookie year). I don't think he was implying his list being the starters for game 1.
