Ravens Vs Redskins Game Preview

15 posts in this topic

The Ravens haven't fared much success in primetime football as of late, though the redskins haven't fared much success in winning as of late. This looks like a good chance for either the Ravens to broaden their playoff hopes and prove they can win in the spotlight, or a chance for the Deadskins to keep their playoff hopes alive and to prove that they can beat to-be contenders. This will be exciting to watch imo (for us ravens fans especially lol ) and with that new black-top, white-bottom outfit, this might be a crack of good luck. Here's how i see the scouting & matchups:

Redskins' Pass Offense vs Ravens' pass defense:
The redskins may have not fared success of late, but they definitely possess two viable threats in Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El. Most notably Santana, who has definitely been pro-bowl caliber with his speed, explosiveness, and escape ability. The Ravens' Pass defense has been solid of late, jumping from the #9 spot in pass defense a couple of weeks ago to the #2 pass defense this week. The ravens may not have the physical size of the corners, but the Redskins' pass offense doesn't exactly have "physical beasts" for wideouts, either. Look for Jason Campbell to make those short, quick patterns like he always does.

Edge: Redskins

Redskins' Run Offense vs Ravens' run defense:
Clinton Portis has been tearing it up this whole entire season, being another major factor in their success in offense (3rd overall in rushing) and lifting a whole lot of weight off of Jason Campbell's shoulders. Clinton, though, has been nick'd up with injuries which might be a drawback for his style of play. The Ravens, surprisingly after the giants game, still have yet to give up a single 100-yard rusher in 31 straight games, and still go strong. This will definitely be another challenge for the beastly front seven, but as with every other challange thrown to them, they will probably handle it. If the Ravens' run D handles Clinton portis, it will be one heck of a long night for Jason Campbell.

Edge: Ravens

Ravens' Pass Offense vs Redskins' pass defense:
Joe Flacco looked like a wiley veteran out there last week, completing deep throw after deep throw after deep throw. He has also found a talent in Mark Clayton to go deep and be a playmaker in the offense. He has also found Heap as of late as the chemistry builds with him. But seriously. The Redskins have one of the most talented, athletic, physical, and experienced secondaries out there. Shaun springs and Deangelo hall are their backups, folks. That speaks a whole lot about their secondary. They are physical on the line, using press coverage. This will be a challange for the receivers, as Mason and Clayton are not a good physical match for the Redskins' corners. If Joe Flacco can handle a 7, possibly 8-man front coming after him along with slicing the gaps of the backfield, he will prove that he can play at a high level so young in his career.

Edge: Redskins, seemingly by a lot :(

Ravens' run offense vs Redskins' run defense:
The redskins have talented linebackers, most notably Washington. They are ranked in the top 10 in rushing defense for a reason. They quickly stuff the hole and often blitz. The Ravens offer many different backfields, confusing to gameplan against. They have a quickster in Ray Rice, and a bullrusher in LeRon McClain. Don't forget McGahee, the speedy dual-threat running back. The Redskins don't know what's coming for them, but the Ravens will definitely have another challange with the strong rush defense.

Edge: Even.

Final Score: Ravens, 20-17. Some people predict the Ravens will manhandle the Redskins. Hopefully they will, but you never know.

Key matchups:

RB Clinton Portis vs Ray Ray

Clinton portis has been elite, but he's playing through injury, which will be a plus for Ray. He's elite, and he's injury free. with the help plugging the hole with Ngata, Ray should be able to handle clinton.
Edge: LB Ray Lewis

WR Santana Moss vs CB Fabian Washington:
Santana Moss has been tearing up offenses all year with his quickness and speed. His yards after catch are also eye-opening. Don't be too worried, though. Fabian Washington has blazing speed, so he should be able to keep up with Santana. Fabian has also vastly improved his cover skills, as seen evident in the eagles' game. Hopefully if santana gets the ball, Fabian can tackle in the open field.
Edge: WR Wantana moss

thoughts? improvements? etc...
thanx for reading.

Ive been looking forward to seeing how Fabian was going to do vs Moss or Randle El because theyre both speed guys and hes a speed corner. Glad you put that one in there because it seems as if Fabian always gets lost in the talk of big players on our defense this season. Without him we're in the same secondary predicament as we were last year, and hes hasnt gotten burned in coverage alot (knock on wood).

I don't think they've got as much fire in the passing dept as you give them #1, and if they can't get the run going its going to be plenty of coverage in the backfield although the injury report scares me. Hopefully Harbs has just broken out the smoke machine and polished up the mirrors.

Yeah he's been playing full steam, but hearing Him, Washington, and Rolle were in sweats for practices can't be good.

As of recent.. the ravens have the edge in all of those categories.

Campbell hasnt been playing his best since portis has been hurt and our pass offense is comming off its best outing yet...

I believe that Ravens can eliminate Santana Moss and Clinton Portis from the skins offense....

so look for Ed Reed and Ray Lewis making big plays for the Ravens d.....

Yeah, the redskins have some pretty good cornerbacks. That's why Todd Heap is going to have to have a huge day over the middle if the ravens want to win this game. Derrick Mason definitely has to make his usual impact as well. When it's all said and done, the defense is going to have to create turnovers and put the offense in good position to score and I think that will happen and the ravens should win this game.

Good starter post, man.

I think it could be a beatdown, but more likely a close Ravens' win.

It would take a remarkable turnaround in the way each team has been playing for the Skins' to pull off a win. Any given Sunday, but it's improbable to me.

Even though Fabian is a speedster like Moss, we might put Rolle on him anyway, just because they're both no. 1. They do that sometimes even though physically, it doesn't seem to make sense. There's also Rolle's knowledge, probably less likely to bite on double moves, etc., and that stuff also counts. Speed is great, but Antoine Winfield is a tiny, slow corner who's also top 5 in the league.

thanks :) Well you're probably right b/c Santana loves to trick the CB's. And anyways, he'll probably get extra help from Reed. As for Randle El, i think he can be handled by Fabian if that matchup shows up this weekend. Randle El is another speedster, but Fabian should be able to keep up w/him.

As good as the Redskin's secondary seems, Philly's secondary is better, and look what we did to them. Granted Joe didn't have the best completion % against Philly, but still was able to throw 2 TDs and no picks. As for Clinton Portis, I think he will start, but I think he won't make it the entire game with his slew of injuries, my guess 12 carries tops before the ball is put in Betts' hands.

I think Rolle on Moss sounds good I bet Corey Ivy can take out the other reciever and REEd the Caboose can clean up with the double team as can Washington.....even Frank Walker...
we got the backfield coverd its the TE that I'm worried about?
