Cuts: Early wave of release predictions

I don't think Shipley will get cut just yet. He was too solid a player with the Colts. I also suspect, that the team will hold on to Doss longer.

Yeah no chance Doss gets cut before the final set of cuts

So of 15 cuts, only 3 of them are defense and 5 of them are WRs?

So Jordan Devey, D.J. Bryant, Cody Larsen, Antoine McClain, and Anthony Levine all make it and Doss doesn't? Come on.

Why would we cut Chris Johnson with Jimmy Smith not proving anything yet, and Asa Jackson suspended the first 8 games? We need all the depth there we can get.

You're holding onto a lot of injured players that likely won't be able to play and cutting a lot of the players that will have to be on the roster to make up for their loss. Jensen being hurt pretty much ensures we'll hold onto Shipley for a while. Marlon Brown might not be able to give us much because of his health, so we aren't in position to cut all those other receivers.

The Players Union better hold out for a larger roster when the greedy owners insist they play a 17 or 18 game regular season. A 60 man roster is not unreasonable.

As far as cuts, too bad you can't cut injured front office personnel.

You have us cutting Shipley? He's our only other remotely dependable center on the roster. Brilliant!

I know right. Shipley is nearly as much of a lock to make the team as Flacco is. If he isn't our starting center he will be the backup. Depending on injuries I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him at guard this year. Reid is terrible filling in for Yanda.

Not to mention Jensen has a broken ankle and will be out for a long time. We need Shipley. Cutting him is a stupid idea.

Based on pre season alone, Doss should be cut.

Unfortunately, the coaching staff are still waiting for him to show his potential in his 3rd year. Deonte needs to get healthy so we can see what we have with him.

Either way, Doss won't be an initial cut.

Cutting guys that are going to make the roster?  Okay.

Here are my predictions:

1. WR Tommy Streeter

2. WR Rashaad Carter

3. WR Gerrard Sheppard

4. TE Alex Silvestro

5. OG Jordan Devey

6. C Reggie Stephens

7. OG Antoine McClain

8. C Ryan Jensen (IR)

9. OT David Mims

10. DL Cody Larsen

11. OLB DJ Bryant

12. OLB Meshak Williams

13. ILB Nigel Carr

14. S Brynden Trawick

15. RB Damien Berry

That was incredibly difficult, actually.  It's really hard once you get to 12 since they're obviously going to want to keep some depth around for game #4.  Damien Berry is the one that I'm iffy on, but I really didn't know who else to pick.

That's pretty spot on, but I'd feel uncomfortable releasing Nigel Carr and Brynden Trawick this early. I'd replace them with OT Roger Gaines and TE Visanthe Shiancoe. I know. I know. Shank won't be cut early, but I haven't been impressed with him at all.

I wanted to cut Gaines, but we need some depth to get through that 4th preseason game.  That's really what made this so difficult.  Guys like Hanie and such have no shot really, but we need to keep them around to get some playing time since our starters won't get much, if any, time.

Agreed. I would hate to be the one cutting these guys. There is so much talent this year.

My prediction of the first 15:

1. WR Tommy Streeter
2. TE Alex Silvestro
3. G Antoine McClain
4. T David Mims
5. LB DJ Bryant
6. LB Meshak Williams
7. DL Cody Larsen
8. C Reggie Stephens
9. WR Gerard Sheppard
10. WR Rashaad Carter
11. RB Damien Berry
12. LB Brandon Copeland
13. G Ramon Harewood
14. T Roger Gaines
15. LB Adrian Hamilton

I have some controversial cuts in there to mix it up a bit. Overall I agree with rmw's assessment but I think the Ravens will have some shocker cuts so I tried to guess who.

Definitely more so than previous years.  I'm used to seeing maybe 2 or 3 open spots on the 53, but it seems like there are 8-10 this year with way too many players for that many spots.

early wave of cuts, not final, those were the ones that disappointed the most, Doss have been a major disappointment, and he have been here  for like 3 years or something. COme on.

i agree too, especially on defense, there a lot of UDFAs players on our team than can probably start on other teams.

that is actually better prediction, but because there's so much talent that can develop into solid starters, it was hard to cut, specially on D, a lot of talent.

Also it needs to be said Chris Johnson hasn't played yet has he? How much practice has he missed? He could be on the bubble. I don't know if he'll get cut but I've been unimpressed by Marcus Spears thus far.

While Asa Jackson is out, I'd rather have Moe Lee than Chris Johnson.

Yeah Chris hasn't played yet.  He's been sporadically practicing over the last two weeks.  I'm not sure he has too much to worry about, though.  Anthony certainly isn't beating the door down, and while I like Moe Lee, I don't think I'd be comfortable with him as our 5th CB just yet.

My point is they're not going to cut too many at one position so the team is lopsided. They still need bodies to practice against each other.

i totally agree with u here, all of them on this list i really think are talented and will contribute to the team, i will take m.brown over doss, rainey over allen, williams over the fragile reed, mellete over the streeter, frustenburg over shinkoe, hamilton has the james harrison type of mentality i like that for the ravens D. Omar is a  ballhawk. i really like these players to stick around.

i can see shipley sticking around if he plays guard too, harb likes hybrid players, so if he plays C/G i c him sticking around.
