Does this guy eat with a fork ? I hope he doesn't blind himself. Why does he play with boxing gloves on ?

Please, end this now.

Shiancoe is getting a bad rap. His misses last night were more because of terrible throws from Flacco than his own miscues.

I can somewhat agree.  The first one was a very difficult catch, can't cast any blame there.  The second one he should have caught, even though it was a poor pass.  Early indications aren't looking too good for him.

I don't care if Visanthe had a bad throw. I care about the fact that he hasn't been really impressive as a blocker nor has he been impressive as a receiver. One catch or one drop doesn't make a trend, but he's had quite a few bounce off those palms of his.

I think that Furstenburg should have a chance with the 1's this week, along with Dallas Clark. Furst has been impressive, granted it was against 2nd team defenses, but still impressive nonetheless. He has to be at least slightly better than Shiancoe, and he has a ton of potential.

I haven't seen anything from Furst that makes me think he can't play in this league though.  Decent routes, good enough blocking, runs full speed.

He looks like a player.

If he's given a chance, he may just surprise some people. Someone had posted on facebook on my cousin's status that Furstenburg ran a slow time in the 40 and was just a blocker at Furst's size. I immediately said, "Furstenburg ran a 4.62 40 in the combine, second fastest 40 by a TE at the event, and he is known as a blocker primarily because of the Terps issues they had last year, where they required him to be a blocker". He did not post a single thing after that lol. I think Furst is going to be a major surprise, given a chance to succeed.

I wouldn't be surprise if Visanthe was not getting Joe's game speed balls in practice. He will need to adjust to the fact that Joe throws short passes hard and quick in a game.

I like him (Furst). He looked good. Shanko looked like crap. Good throw, bad throw, makes no difference. A receiver is supposed to receive. Boldin would have caught them. He wants to step into Q's shoes he has to catch them too. If he can't find someone that can.

Did the passes touch both hands or not?

I wanted to throw a brick through the television.

I don't even get how it will be a surprise since he looks so good on paper. His profile reads like a dream TE. I'm expecting big things from him once he fully adjusts to the pro game. just depends on how long that will take. I'm predicting this year still though.

So....what you're saying is that we need to start Tyrod Taylor immediately.

I kid, I kid.

Um, the 2 passes that went to him were not exactly on target.

1 was late and underthrown, the other one was too high....

@easternshore97 - I am sure that Joe throws harder in game situations than he does on the practice field. It is just part of the game adrenalin. Since he hadn't really played much with Joe in a game, he didn't react as fast as he needed to. Therefore causing the balls bouncing off his hands and chest. The same is probably true for the other receivers as well. I think the more game time they can all get the better the offense will be.

One thing I think we need to keep in mind is that he didn't even play last season. So he's a veteran trying to get everything back in order. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. He's proven himself in the past as a very solid TE who can produce. Unfortunately because of Pitta, we need a veteran at the position. Listen, Visanthe is motivated to play well this year and earn a contract somewhere as a Free Agent. If he can give us a solid year, great, if not at least we tried.

After having watched a good portion of the 1st quarter of the Atlanta game, I'm not sure what Visanthe does well. He might be very rusty, but he doesn't look good at all. His blocking and receiving are both really just poor.

He never did anything particularly well aside from being an OK target in the end zone. He's just a balanced guy.

In the NFL, if receiving is in your job description and the ball hits you in the hands, you catch it. End of story. Sorry Visanthe.

Joe gave him two terribly poor throws in his defense. They were well behind him and anyone in a purple uniform would be lucky to have caught balls that were that far behind

Exactly. Shiancoe knows how to get open, Joe needs to give him better targets.

I'm not defending Joe's throws, they certainly weren't on the money. But when a ball hits you in the hands, its considered catchable. It wasn't a Tebow throw way over his head or anything.

True but when you are running a route it is the job of the QB to hit you in stride. It takes a lot of flexibility and body control to shift direction, turn and make those completions. I don't think most receivers could have caught those passes. Shiancoe was open. It's Joes job to make better throws. About hitting the the hands......if a ball is thrown too high but it hits the receivers fingertips at his highest point, should he be catching that pass?

The ability to be flexible and control your body to make those catches is one of the reasons that they are NFL receivers, instead of you or me. They are excellent athletes, and body control is a vital part of being a good receiver. Joe should have made those throws, yes. But as an NFL receiver, Shiancoe should have also made those catches.

If a ball skims the fingertips, it's obviously not catchable. But if it hits a receiver in both hands like it did Shiancoe's, he should make that catch.

All this talk about Visanthe and making excuses for him seems silly. There's a point to be made that Joe could throw it a bit better but Visanthe has dropped the ball when Joe the it well and right to him. The fact is Visanthe isn't coming up with the catches. It doesn't matter if it's a tough catch or not. He's not catching even the well thrown ball.

Visanthe didn't catch anything last year with the Patriots, even though they have Brady and were pass-oriented.

He is definitely rusty and may even, at his age, be done.
