WR Aaron Mellette

157 posts in this topic

I think if we see Mellette with the first team offense on Thursday we will know more on how he is looking. I just wish we could see Joe be able to work with some of the young guys we have. Torrey is obviously proven so they need to try out guys, such as Mellette. I want to see Furstenburg, too. Ever since the first preseason game and I heard he had strong practices after Harbaugh called him out, I had been liking Mellette more and more. I have a lot of hope for him.

Well, according to about 120 fans, 94% of people think he will make the roster via a poll on Baltimore Beatdown.

According to the training camp EVERYONE was getting some 1st team reps. Makes me hopefull about Mellette having passes thrown to him by Joe in week 3.
I am getting some strong "this preseasons Justin Tucker"-vibe from the excitement I feel for the guy.

Let's hope. I don't care who stands out as long as Jacoby Jones isn't our #2. I think he's a fine #3 and a terrific #4.

By now, you should know, that you are preaching to the choir. I absolutely agree. Jones is a great WR, when he gets the workload, that suits his talents. The Texans tried to make Jones their #2 and that was WITH Andre Johnson on their roster.

When I read that I was so happy. I don't want to get too excited but I want Mellette to continue this and I want to see him Thursday with Joe in action. Harbaugh said he's "very proud" of Mellette too, which can only mean good things.

Quoted from the Baltimore Sun, this is what John Harbaugh said about Aaron Mellette.

"That's how you make it, that's how you earn your stripes: you make plays," Harbaugh said. "You got to do it within the context of knowing what you're doing and you got to stack days.

"It's not just two catches. It's all the other things that go with it. You can have two great catches and everything else could not be there and you're not doing what you need to do. He's doing all those things and doing a good job."

The fact, that our #1 pick Elam has to earn his spot on the roster proves that Harbs doesn't play favorites.

Yes this is true. It's why I think Harbaugh called Mellette out last week. Harbaugh sees the potential in Mellette and wants him to prove he has what it takes to make the team.

I hope we see some of him with the starters. Doss has pretty much blown or squandered every chance he's been given, Thompson has been hurt, and none of the other guys have stood out either. Give Mellette his shot, he can't be any worse.

Except for David Reed, he loves that guy.

One has to admit that David Reed was an unbelievable returner for us before he got injured the first time. He hash´t shown much as a receiver yet but also hash´t been given that many opportunities.

I know that many people are high on Mellette now and his stats from college show that he can play. He just has to take the next step and perform on the big stage consistently...

Aaron Mellette is a big dude.
6'3, 220 with a 4.5 40.
That's pretty fast for a dude his size.
I think he would've been a round 2-4 prospect if he went to a bigger school.

With my old friend Streeter disappointing everyone(:() put me on the bandwagon

From The Sun:

Brown and Flacco looked to be out of sync early, but the quarterback had instant chemistry with Mellette. On one play near midfield, Flacco used a pump-fake to freeze cornerback Chris Johnson and floated a perfect pass to Mellette in the end zone.

Aaron Mellette Solid

Aaron Mellette displayed some good footwork, faking out cornerback Chris Johnson for a long touchdown pass from Flacco. While Mellette did have a drop in the end zone during practice, it was his only flaw as plenty of passes were thrown his way and subsequently hauled in.

Guys.

GUYS.

It's really happening.

As the PRESIDENT of the (Un)Official Aaron Mellette fanclub, I feel like I just watched my child grow up.

5aiah, my dear Chief of Staff, this project has been a success.

Mellette has definitely become my favorite to start opposite Torrey. Back during rookie minicamps, I said Mellette will start by the end of the season.. looks like he has a shot to start in the opener...

LETS GO 13!

Alright, I'm really high on Mellette too, but lets see him convert some third downs and play against starters before we project him to be the starter week one. -_-

lol go easy on us. Seeing an unproven WR on this team make plays is like giving a starving man a slice of bread. It's not much, but you can't help but be excited.

Wait, one good practice doesn't mean the guy is basically Megatron?

Haha, I wish. I like his potential, and it's defiinitely a good sign that he is getting some run with the first team in practice. I hope that means he gets to play some snaps with the first team offense on Thursday too, but until I see him actually make plays against real competition I will have my expectations very low. I still think it will be tough for him to make the 53, but if he gets the opportunity to prove himself it only helps the team if he can take advantage.

Mellette's TD catch in the Tampa game was an incredible feat of body control I haven't seen from ANY of the

other young kids. You can't teach that. That catch alone ,which even the announcers were very impressed by ,

puts him above Doss and Co.

Here's my gut feeling about why Harbaugh kicked him to the sidelines in practice last week.

He sees the talent too! He wants to see how this kid responds to adversity.

THIS. Harbs did the same thing to Webbie when he  was a rookie. Told him that the Ravens wasted a draft pick on him.

I feel you. I'm stoked about him too!

I love that he got first team reps yesterday, and I hope he gets first team reps on Thursday. He hasn't earned the starting job, but he's earned a chance to actually compete for it.

I like his size and ability to get open but before we start placing him in the starting lineup we have to ask ourselves this. Does he look good because he really is that good or are the other Ravens WRs lack of play making him look all that better?

IKR, I really expected more out of Streeter, he is a really talented player if he could just get the concentration down and polish his route running, he would be a monster.

So he is even better Jones? If that is the case and Mallette replaces Jones then jones might be one and done here.

I don't know that it means he's better than Jones, but more a better compliment to Torrey in 2WR sets. Jones brings a lot of the same that Torrey did last year, the speed and taking the top off.

I don't care who wins the job, I just want someone to step up and clearly win it bc that means hes playing well. I think we have 3-4 guys on the roster that can contribute, the problem is they've all looked pretty even and like complimentary or supporting cast kind of guys - no one has asserted himself as the legit #2 who can make plays for himself.

I think we'll see week 1 that Jones is the burner on the outside with Torrey being asked to do a lot more over the middle and intermediate type stuff until someone else legitimately steps up.
