B-more Ravor

Jameel McClain has taken a paycut

Okay, well trade him instead of Boldin!! We could of got a late 7th for McClain!

That bonus money still counts against our cap.  Trading him would still only save $1.8M.  And why do you think anyone would trade for a player that may or may not ever play again?

If he is not worth a 7th rounder then why should we keep him on the roster  anyway. Personally I think he is a product of our system, like so many other Ravens that have left, only to realize that maybe they are not as good as they think!!

I strongly doubt anyone will trade for a player that isnt cleared to play.

I was talking about trading for another player w/ our draft pick. Now that ravens have more than +5m salary cap

Yeah he's cut unless he wants to take a pay cut again.  He would save us $3.2M next year.

That depends on a number of factors, but that's certainly a possibility.

I give the guy credit for taking a pay cut.  He was not a player who was worth his contract, but this was a real team move that he didn't have to make.

I thought this would be the most likely course of action taken concerning Jameel.

I would imagine he starts the season on the PUP and the team takes a wait and see approach. If he gets cleared he can come back and help out depth at ILB. He is a veteran leader and has value on this defense. I know we all love the potential of Arthur Brown (no one more than me), but he is looking like our sub-package LB similar to what Ellerbe used to play and if given the choice I would start Jameel over Josh Bynes.

Oh, really?

Yeah, I misunderstood. It's certainly a possibility.

Nope. That would be BloodRaven

It doesnt really matter, let's just say we were equally big fans. I had him as my #1 backer as soon as Mosley decided to return to school and had him in every single mock draft I made. Glad to see him have a great game. I think he ends up starting ahead of Bynes. It would be silly not too.

Bynes has a big future role too I think, from the little I've seen of him I like his instincts and physicality. As good as Daryl Smith is he's still a stop gap for a year or two.

I wasnt as impressed by Bynes, but I think he can be a future contributor for sure. Daryl Smith may be a stop gap, but if he continues this level of play I think he could be a fixture here for a couple more years. He is all over the place.

Gah. Then this game comes around and Bynes misses a few tackles in the hole and looks unimpressive. Meanwhile, Brown does the exact opposite and other than getting outrun by a fast RB on a flare, looks really good. I like what I saw from Arthur tonight.

Good player.

Lol, I'm only kidding anyway. It was a joke.

I'm glad that Jameel took a pay cut. I don't like Jameel much as a player, but as a person he's a good guy. In this scenario, I know it's a popular idea to just cut the guy but what we did (Jameel and the Ravens) worked out better. It's a win-win. Jameel doesn't get cut & the Ravens don't have to get rid of quality depth or a potential starter in the event of an unforeseen injury later in the year. They can put Jameel on the PUP and let him fully rest.

Finally a player with some sense to realize it's better to take a pay cut than be released.

You gotta be kidding us!

Maybe the lesson is Do not sign with Baltimore unless the money is guaranteed!

Or any other NFL team.

Curious if Ozzie will address the secondary with the cap space with J.Smith being in an apparent slump.  Besides WR, this is probably one of our biggest needs.

Kerry Rhodes (S) is surprisingly still available.  Would be interesting to pick him up and possibly move Huff to CB if J.Smith doesn't improve soon...
