No they did actually release him being that he signed a 5 year deal. Yes, he did walk away but they still had to release him.

He quit though...

Drug problem aside, I think his father greatly influenced his failure.

Yup! Too much pressure.

I feel really bad for the kid.  I've seen so many people try to live vicariously through their kids like that.  Obviously that was an extreme example, but when you're indoctrinated like that from a young age it's hard to turn out right.

T.O. Had a great career, but you have to wonder what could've been if he didn't have such a loud mouth and acted so selfishly.

The Voice of Reason in this thread. Seriously though how could you make a list and not mention him.

Most of the people mentioned didn't really amount to anything T.O. on the other hand put together a hall of fame caliber career so I guess most people assumed his self destructive nature wasn't as devastating as in these other cases.

OJ Simpson.

He didn't go through his double homicide and armed robbery trials until well after he retired as one of the best RBs ever.

...long after his acting career and long after induction into the Hall of Fame

Precisely why I didn't put him on this list.

Who knows, maybe his ridiculous personality and antics were actually a part of his success on the field. You never know if he would have even been an NFL player, let alone star, if his personality was different and he wasn't always commanding attention and the ball. He could have slipped through the cracks.

Randy Moss. He's arguable the second best receiver of all time, and I don't think its difficult to make a case for it, but think of what he could've been if he just put some dang effort into it. He rose to that level, played that well, all while playing totally off natural talent and instinct. If he had let coaches coach him, practiced like Rice, and just generally gave a damn about bettering himself I really believe he could've pushed Rice for the #1 receiver crown. He would at least be the indisputable #2 of all time. But instead we have The Freak, a supremely talented receiver who showed us just how for natural ability can take you.

I am Jerry Rice's number one fan. I think that Randy Moss is the most talented wide receiver of all time. He certainly had a chance to become the greatest.

He's the Allen Iverson of football.

As a huge Allen Iverson fan, I don't think that's fair.  Iverson never played sluggishly or gave up during a game like Moss did at times.  He left his heart and soul on the court every time.

I was referring to their practicing habits.  Iverson laughed at the notion of practice.

1. lawerence Phillips RB

2. Cecil Collins RB - had numerous chances, guy was kicked out of LSU( started over Kevin Faulk) then went to McNeese State ( small local school where I live ) kicked out of there too, still drafted by the Dolphins. He was having a decent rookie year then he broke into someone's home. A True Bonehead.

Rolando McClain: now retired says enough

Leonard Little : killed someone drunk driving, then years later arrested for failing multiple sobriety tests.

Bam Morris RB

Maurice Clarett RB

Brandon Marshall -he has gotten his act together much like Adam pacman jones but Marshall was definitely self-destructing

Chris Henry WR - now deceased, he had numerous off field troubles, seemed to be improving himself on and off the field and untimely & unfortunate death.

How about Shawn merriman ....

He had all that drama with Tila Tequila, then he got popped by the NFL for Steriods, career basically spiraled to nothing from then on.
Merriman went from a premiere pass-rusher at that point better than Demarcus Ware, to absolutely nothing.
