Predict the performance of our players in the receiving game

46 posts in this topic

You all can hate me for being bold and that's OK haha. It's just a worthless guess. I'm not even sure guess is the right word for it. Tom Brady went from about 3600 yards and 24 TDs in 2006 to 4800 and 50 TDs in 2007. He had never cracked 30 touchdowns prior to that monster season either. I went bold. Haha. That's all. We have a lot of guys who are capable of being red zone and third down receivers, chain movers, touchdown playmakers. What's so wrong about having some faith that they will perform to their potential. If these guys can live up to their potential than my numbers are a possibility, but if not, oh well, it's not like I'm plunking down money on this prediction.

he had this dude..randy moss..when he was good

At the end of the day we ALL want the same thing. Another ring, which means more bragging rights! Haha
We all have our own opinions and no one is going to see eye to eye on EVERYTHING.
I value your predictions and how much time you put into it, respect!

i think Torrey Smith def goes over a 1000 yards, he could have done it the past two years....

dont really feel like running through the entire WR/TE/RB depth chart tho

Seems that there are some lofty predictions out there for Flacco. Would love to see that myself but I think expectations are being overblown.

When you consider that Flacco has lost his go-to guys, Pitta to injury and Boldin to San Fran, that just takes a major chunk of the production away that we had last year. Replacements have been put into place to address these two losses and they will most likely fill in quite well but I still don't see them totally offsetting the production losses.

When we look at Torrey Smith I see a player ready to take the jump and become an elite WR. Unfortunately unless we can find a legit #2 (I don't think Jacoby is it) to take the pressure off of him I think that will have to wait until next year. So his maturing into a better player will be offset by the added pressure and attention he will receive so lets call that a wash on his production numbers.

Now let's look at Flacco. Flacco in my mind has a habit of playing down to the competition quite often, competition that other QB's pad their numbers off of. Until he can elevate his game in this regard he will never have those monster numbers that other QBs enjoy. Who knows, maybe this year he steps up in these games but after 5 years I wouldn't hold my breath.

Now taking a look at the pass defenses he will encounter this year is not promising either. There are very few patsy teams to throw up those big numbers with, with many of them actually against top tier pass defenses. Some tough sledding to say the least.

All in all, considering these things I expect to see similar production numbers from Flacco as we saw last year if not maybe a touch less.

Honestly i dont think we are going to pass it enough for anyone get those numbers, Flacco's never even thrown for 30td's so dont know where the 43 is flying out of. Although do think Ray Ray will prob lead team in receptions though ha, When Smith isnt open deep, they dump it to ray.......Very Predictable

43 is a lot for anyone.  Period.  That's just a ridiculously homerish number.

In all fairness to Flacco, it's really the whole team that was playing down to the opposition, not just Flacco.  I'd blame Cam Cameron and his preparations, game plans, and refusal to adjust soon enough in games.  The common theme was always that the receivers couldn't get a lick of separation and the offensive line was a sieve.  We've seen it a lot.  But it was always under Cam.  I expect that we won't see that kind of thing under Caldwell.

Good point with bringing up Cam. Thought of it for a moment while writing my comments and then it totally slipped my mind. To me Cam and his offensive scheme could be a wild card in this. I think one of the reasons for the success we enjoyed is because the defenses were caught off guard when our offense discovered that great unexplored territory called the middle of the field. The question in my mind is now that the defenses are aware of it can they game plan successfully against it and if so have we made enough adjustments to counter that. I myself have no idea at this point.

All I know for sure is it will be a fun season to find out these answers. :)

Edit****By the way. I agree with your statement about the whole team playing down to the competition. I didn't mean to imply it was only Flacco.

Before the injuries to Pitta and Dickson, I had 2013 being Flacco's MVP season. I don't see that now, I think he throws over 4,000 yards...but not to the extreme extent some people seem to think. There are new pieces (Stokely and Clark), but they are old and we can't rely on them to play the way they did in their primes. Oh...and they're new...like not even a week old new. I think though that the sooner Dickson can come back, the better. I'm not optimistic on him staying healthy the whole season though which is going to be a problem. Because of the fluidity of the offense, I can imagine Joe forcing a lot more throws and possibly throwing a career-high number of INTs.

On the bright side, I think Torrey Smith goes over 1,000 yards with around 9-11 TDs. I think he has a big year and the only reason he hasn't in the past is because he hardly got the ball half of the season. I think Jacoby will be fine. 700-800 yards. I think there will be games he completely dominates...and games he disappears. Ray Rice is still our MVP and will become Joe's security blanket. I expect him to get a ton of passes this season.

I think our defense is Top 5 this year...daresay Top 3. Front 7 is simply monstrous and I think there will be many sports media pundits eating a lot of crow this season when we put the best defense since 2006 on the field. Matt Elam is a missile and could get 5+ INTs if he gets considerable playing time. He has Defensive Rookie of the Year potential! Which is great because if our offense DOES struggle early on, our defense will be more than prepared to torment offenses and force 3 and outs.

Joe Flacco: 4,300 yards - 35 TDs/15 INTs

Ray Rice: 1,300 rushing yards -  600 receiving yards - 15 total TDs

Bernard Pierce: if he can stay healthy....600 rushing yards 6 TDs

Torrey Smith: 1,200 receiving yards - 10 TDs

Jacoby Jones: 750 receiving yards - 8 TDs

I'm almost positive Torrey lined up in the slot before running an in-route on 11-yrd catch against TB last season. That play and the quick 5-yard out were encouraging in that they showed Caldwell will be looking to simply get the ball in his hands and let him go to work more than Cam did.

He'll will obviously continue to make plays on deep routes but I really hope catching bombs and running clearing routes won't be the extent to which Smith makes an impact any more. Hopefully, he'll be active in the short to intermediate game as well.

Used Torrey for a couple of end arounds as well if I remember correctly. Though they sometimes hit for a home run I hate seeing them with our better players because of the injury possibilities.

We need some crazy player on that list.

Koch for fifteen yards and a TD

Tyrod for twelve yards.

Something out of the ordinary.

This is kind of funny because it obviously also involves guessing who even makes the team, which isn't a given for a lot of these guys right now... This is just my guess, and I'm going full bold with this one and giving Mr. Flacco a monster year to kick-off his new monster contract.  Here's everyone who will catch a pass for this team this year:

Torrey Smith: 53 Rec, 859 Yds, 10 TD
Jacoby Jones: 42 Rec, 562 Yds, 5 TD
Brandon Stokley: 41 Rec, 498 Yds, 6 TD
Deonte Thompson: 14 Rec, 158 Yds, 1 TD
Tandon Doss: 22 Rec, 339 Yds, 4 TD
LaQuan Williams: 6 Rec, 88 Yds, 0 TD
David Reed: 5 Rec, 64 Yds, 0 TD
Ed Dickson: 54 Rec, 595 Yds, 6 TD
Dallas Clark: 39 Rec, 389 Yds, 3 TD
Visanthe Shiancoe: 4 Rec, 46 Yds, 1 TD
Ray Rice: 72 Rec, 612 Yds, 4 TD
Bernard Pierce: 11 Rec, 71 Yds, 1 TD
Anthony Allen: 1 Rec, 7 Yds, 0 TD
Vonta Leach: 30 Rec, 192 Yds, 2 TD
Kyle Juszczyk: 4 Rec, 24 Yds, 0 TD

Total: 398 Rec, 4504 Yds, 43 TD

Feel free to tell me I'm stupid and how wrong I am, and post your own predictions.

I haven't read into all the numbers, but I think Ed Dickson is going to do better than that if he plays all 16 games.  People have been complaining about his drops, but his numbers in 2011 tell me Joe trusts him, and with his competition now down to a bunch of 30 something vets and rookie TEs, I think Joe is going to be sending a lot more targets his way.

Kyle Juszczyk: 4 Rec, 24 Yds, 0 TD  Visanthe Shiancoe: 4 Rec, 46 Yds, 1 TD

If  they make the squad, they must catch more than that to save the jobs.  In the TB game, just about all of our passes are underneath.

We appeared to be dink and dunk, dink and dunk. This may work, if we can keep Joe upright.

Sorry, but I am not capable of predicting stupidty levels.

Who is our red zone threat, Clark ? He may catch more than 3. Give KJ a couple, also.

I think Joe's season is more likely to look like this:

60% completion percentage, 4000 yards, 26 touchdowns, 10 picks.
