Predict the performance of our players in the receiving game

46 posts in this topic

This is kind of funny because it obviously also involves guessing who even makes the team, which isn't a given for a lot of these guys right now... This is just my guess, and I'm going full bold with this one and giving Mr. Flacco a monster year to kick-off his new monster contract.  Here's everyone who will catch a pass for this team this year:

Torrey Smith: 53 Rec, 859 Yds, 10 TD
Jacoby Jones: 42 Rec, 562 Yds, 5 TD
Brandon Stokley: 41 Rec, 498 Yds, 6 TD
Deonte Thompson: 14 Rec, 158 Yds, 1 TD
Tandon Doss: 22 Rec, 339 Yds, 4 TD
LaQuan Williams: 6 Rec, 88 Yds, 0 TD
David Reed: 5 Rec, 64 Yds, 0 TD
Ed Dickson: 54 Rec, 595 Yds, 6 TD
Dallas Clark: 39 Rec, 389 Yds, 3 TD
Visanthe Shiancoe: 4 Rec, 46 Yds, 1 TD
Ray Rice: 72 Rec, 612 Yds, 4 TD
Bernard Pierce: 11 Rec, 71 Yds, 1 TD
Anthony Allen: 1 Rec, 7 Yds, 0 TD
Vonta Leach: 30 Rec, 192 Yds, 2 TD
Kyle Juszczyk: 4 Rec, 24 Yds, 0 TD

Total: 398 Rec, 4504 Yds, 43 TD

Feel free to tell me I'm stupid and how wrong I am, and post your own predictions.

Ray Rice only 4 TDs?? Oh I see just receiving TDs...

I think if Clark plays a full season I would switch TD amounts with Dickson.

wow, just realized you have Flacco having 43 TD's

For what it's worth, here's my Flacco prediction:

398/632, 4504 Yards, 43 TD, 9 INT
62.97%, 7.13 Y/A, 101.0 QB Rating

He would deserve another $120M if that happens. Those are gross numbers.

Haha I know, I know.  I'm aware my prediction would put him in the top 15 most pass attempts in a season all-time, and Jim Caldwell has been running the ball more (almost exactly 50/50 pass/rush play-calling since he took over).  So not only would Flacco have to throw the ball way more than he ever has and among the most attempts ever for a single-season, the offense in general would also probably end up being the first to ever have over 1200 plays in a single season (the record is 1199 from the 1994 Patriots), unless Caldwell seriously dials back on the rushing attempts, which I doubt he will do.  But I figured, if I'm going to throw numbers out, I'll go big and hope for the best haha.

Generally speaking I think the catches and yards are in the right neighborhood for all the receivers, however I think its doubtful Joe throws 40+ TDs as much as I would love to see it. Who knows though...

My prediction would be, that Joe stays sharp at home (just like last season) and starts playing on the road as if he was playing at home (as evidence by his great on-the-road-performance in the playoffs under Caldwell).

So, my math is much more simple. I take last season's homefield stats and multiply them by 2:

Comp. 352

Att.      566

%          62

Yrds. 4762

TD        30

INT       10

I am a bit sceptic about the passing yards. I do think Joe will surpass 4000, but probably by a little less. I also am not sure how exactly those stats end up happening. I do suspect that Torrey will get most of those receiving yards, duh.^^

Really what my prediction boils down to is that I want to see us pleasantly surprised by the ability of the receivers to make plays.  Across the board.  I want to see us have all those guys get into the mix.  Like a Green Bay type offense where Aaron Rodgers completed passes to different 16 guys last year, I've got Joe tossing it to 15 guys this year.  I like to think our guys step up and make plays, and that Flacco will have the freedom to control this offense at his tempo and he will choose to call a lot of passing plays.  A lot of these completions are probably going to be checkdowns to the RB/FB, or quick stuff to the tight ends and slot guy, but that the offense will operate in such a way that Flacco will be wanting to check into a passing play at the line very often, and that's how we're about to see those numbers.  With a lot of safety valves underneath and our guys actually playing up to what we want to see out of them, as opposed to a lot of the predictions I'm seeing that everyone sucks, is old, is slow, can't get open, can't catch the ball (besides Torrey Smith), I'm choosing to go the other way and say our guys step up, and the results will be amazing.  It's really what I *want* to see, so if I will it, perhaps it shall be.

I like the big year for Flacco. Seeing 30 receptions for Leach and only 4 for Juice is a little puzzling for me, but the rest is realistic.

I don't think you're wrong about what the passing offense could be, but I think you're wrong about how many times we'll throw the ball. I still see this being a run-heavy offense because of Rice and Pierce and the fact that we still use a fullback. For Joe to have 43 passing TDs, we'll need to be one of those teams that abandons the run in the redzone and I can't see that happening. If the defense is better (like it should be), that means less need for us to throw the ball and Caldwell has already shown that we don't go pass heavy unless we need a quick 7 points.

Rice leading the team in receptions, Flacco throwing 40+ plus td's...
We're all entitled to our opinions, here's mine.
Many people think because Flacco got a monster contract that he HAS to carry us, I feel other wise. Flacco got the monster contract because he comes up big in big games. I understand that it's a passing league and all but we can have the best RB duo in the league this year I believe that we'll be a run first offense to set up the pass after losing Flacco's top 2 receiving options from a year ago.
IMHO Flacco will never put up the Brees/Rogers/Brady/Manning like regular season stats and I'm okay with that as long as he continues to play well in January and February.

That's cool.  About Rice leading the team in receptions, I'm not sure if you're saying that's far-fetched?  He has already led the team in receptions 2 out of 4 years here as the starting RB (2009 and 2011).  And in 2010 he only had 1 fewer catch than Boldin, and 4 fewer last year.  So it doesn't seem far-fetched at all for Rice to be the team leader in receptions.

Haha, that'd be something else!  We can call it wishful thinking?

I'm not going to break it down per player, but I do think Joe reaches 4,000 yards this year and I think around 30+ TDs is a reasonable expectation. Since we do have such a great run game, I'll go with 30-35 TDs but leaning closer to the lower end.

You're completely correct, hey diddle diddle ray rice up the middle! It might even be more so the case this season with the losses of Boldin, Pitta and no legit #2 receiver.
I just got a little confused because I can't see him having almost 20 more catches than our next leading receiver.

Considering the degraded receiving corps, these are my Flacco projections, which in no way reflects lack of regard for him:

TDs. 24
Ints. 16
Yards 3800
Pct. 57.5
QBR. 85

Honestly i dont think we are going to pass it enough for anyone get those numbers, Flacco's never even thrown for 30td's so dont know where the 43 is flying out of. Although do think Ray Ray will prob lead team in receptions though ha, When Smith isnt open deep, they dump it to ray.......Very Predictable

I don't see us passing as much due to he resigning of Leach. I even see a third back possibly getting reps if they aren't impressed wirh the guys at wideout. His numbers will go up though to a better strategy passing and him more control of the offense.

I think urs is the closest guess to what I was thinking but I was thinking 28-29 rec'd and just under 4,000 yards. Just can't see the ravens going away from the run game especially later in the season.

Agree with these Flacco stats. Maybe a touch over 4k, but very possible for 3,900 and 31/13.

You all can hate me for being bold and that's OK haha. It's just a worthless guess. I'm not even sure guess is the right word for it. Tom Brady went from about 3600 yards and 24 TDs in 2006 to 4800 and 50 TDs in 2007. He had never cracked 30 touchdowns prior to that monster season either. I went bold. Haha. That's all. We have a lot of guys who are capable of being red zone and third down receivers, chain movers, touchdown playmakers. What's so wrong about having some faith that they will perform to their potential. If these guys can live up to their potential than my numbers are a possibility, but if not, oh well, it's not like I'm plunking down money on this prediction.

I will not be surprised if Flacco has over 60% completion, 4000+ yards, 32+TDs and less than 15 Int with a QB rating of over 95 this year. However, his playoff performance will be off the charts as always. Isn't that the only thing that matters anyway?

He got his payday.  I expect him to get the job done like rest of elite QBs do

35TD(more success @ endzone),

3800 yards(similar as last year),

60% completion(little more than last year)
