2013-2014 Fantasy Discussion Thread

281 posts in this topic

One of the reasons I created the Thread was berad's complaint in the Fantasy Injury Thread.  Anyway, I thought it would make sense to consolidate a Thread for asking questions about who to start and sit, as well as injuries.  Maybe it should be renamed the "Start or Sit Thread"?

Or we could revive "THE Start/Sit Thread" which has gone strong for two years.

Rodgers or Brees: go!

I think Brees will be a better fantasy QB because he'll be reunited with Sean Payton.  He has a better supporting cast: O-line, RBs and TE.  Both receiving corps are similar in their sheer depth, though Rodgers has slightly better star WRs.  In addition, Brees plays in a much weaker defensive division (NFC South) than Rodgers (NFC North).

Its not an easy choice, Rodgers will give you more with his legs but then he also has the risk of being out a game or two with injuries because his line is going to be really bad. Meanwhile Brees is coming off a slightly down year, granted that was without Payton, but you don't know if he will immediately be back to the old Brees from the get go.

If I was picking and had the options I think I would go with Brees just because he is the heart of the offense, not that Rodgers isn't but Green Bay is trying to run more because their line has been bad. But Brees also plays more of his games a dome rather than in the harsher elements of the NFC North.

I have Brees as my #1 QB. I think he has finished #1 three years straight or something like that. He's gonna throw for 5000 yds again and probably 35+ TDs. Having Payton back will make a difference.

Here's one that's a bit tougher

Better finish cj?k or sjax

CJ has a much better line, but that offense could stink. Jackson will get more TDs but he might struggle to get much more that 1200-1300 yds total. They are close for me, probably give the edge to CJ on upside.

Damn, TB's offensive line has looked horrible so far.  People might have to reconsider how early they draft Freeman, V-Jackson and Williams.

Graham got traded so I made my own.

1st & 5th for Foster & 7th.

Now my keepers are Rodgers,RG3,Martin,Foster

I'm really liking it even though I'm missing a lot of the funnest parts of fantasy (the draft).

How many players do you need to fill your roster?

17 if I counted correctly. The boy I traded with was facing a deadline and decided to trade foster so he could get something for him. He's keeping Wilson,Rice,Calvin,Stafford/Dez. I'm so surprised I got him

Hope he doesn't burn out, as many people are worried he will.

I'm in a 20 team league this year, and I've only played fantasy football one other time.

What are the top positions this year in reference to drafting early? Should I go HB in rounds 1 and 2?

RBs are usually the most scarce.  The RB depth goes quickest in drafts and its tough to find guys on the waiver wire as compared to receivers.  That doesn't necessarily mean you need to go RB early, but it is usually a good idea to get a RB in the first two rounds.

However, a 20-team league is huge and puts more value on QBs. You'll need to gauge how the draft is going.   There could very well be a run on QBs in the first 3 rounds.  But don't reach unless you need to at this position.

But RBs will get sucked up super quick. However if there is good value at WR, or Jimmy Graham in the first two rounds, you can always go that route.

20-man league? :o You should try to draft a franchise QB in the 1st round, before they run out. Trust me, you don't want to get stuck with Mark Sanchez.

Unless you are in a league that gives points for butt-fumbles....

Starting QBs you Don't Want to be Stuck With:

Gabbert
Sanchez/Smith
Kolb
Flynn
Ponder
Locker
Rivers
Weeden

In a 20-man league, this leaves with with very little wiggle room.

Alright guys I need to pick your brains because I keep flip-flopping strategies in my brain..  In my long-time money league I was awarded the 12th overall pick.  (12 team ppr, 1 QB TE Flex, 2 RB, 3 WR).

Assuming no one falls, I have this strange desire to go WR-Jimmy Graham.  And pray I can get two decent RBs on the next swing (it is a 3 WR league).  This is coming from a guy that loves his RBs.    Then pick up a RB with one of my two swing picks going forward.

Or should I go Forte-Graham?  Forte-Jackson? Jackson-WR?  AJ Green-Dez?  So many possibilities when you draft last.  Essentially, what would you do?

Draft Forte 1st, or any other RB that may fall to you, such as Ray Rice.  TEs will be available several rounds afterwards.  If Graham's gone, you could always pick up GRonkowski or Greg Olsen.

T-Rich, Forte, Jackson.

T-Rich, Forte, Jackson.

Good looks.  I would also recommend Morris, who should see an increased workload.

TE is very deep I know.  But Graham in a ppr league could be a game changer for a line-up.  If you get Graham you don't ever have to look at another TE for the rest of the draft. Worry about their inconsistencies or injuries.

Graham has always done me well in this league.  I drafted him in the 7th round in 2011 and the 2nd round last year (He helped me win the championship). I almost see him as a good luck charm.
